Quirky place full of stratas and cottages built for retirees also lovely waterfront reserve houses. Home to elderly and singles and happy families and those on Struggle St. Deepwater Plaza is busy every day however the general commercial area of Woy Woy is lacklustre due to commuters taking up the parking spots+ needs a late night alternative to Maccas and the pubs (teahouse, vegan?), would be viable considering the 30000+ population of the peninsula. The waterfront reserve rivals Centennial Park for public amenity. Locals are a bit apathetic about Council selling off parks and reserves. Humble Woy Woy is tending to diversify rather than gentrify.

Great place

Located near the train line, its perfect for any commuters to get to Sydney or Newcastle. It's a little town on the water, great for the fisherman. Woy Woys aboriginal town name means "much water" or "big lagoon" in reference to it being situated on Brisbane Water. Its worth a visit to Fishermans Wharf Co-op which has nice fresh seafood at a reasonable price right on the water. Or if you are after something new, try the Link and Pin Cafe, or an old local favourite the Gnostic Cafe. Another idea if you are visiting is to catch the Davistown Ferry, to Davistown RSL for lunch. Woy Woy is underrated. It is a two minute drive to the stunning beaches at Umina and Ettalong. Lots of good shopping centres and great little coffee shops opening up. Only 1:15 on the train to Sydney it’s a gem!

Lived in Woy Woy as a young couple now married with two young children ages 1 and 3.
Great neighborhood vibes, safe, have never had any troubles have left keys in car, front door open, wallet on car seats and have never had a break in. Our neighbors are all friendly walking down the street people say hello and people actually care about one and another. Really is a secret gem.
Brought up in sydney parents moved to coast when we were all still in school and have never wanted to move back to sydney since. My husband commutes to sydney and I work on the coast previously also commuting. Transport and roads are great.
Great schools with very passionate teachers who go beyond for their students, coming in on the weekends I still remember doing my HSC at BWS College my DT teacher was just amazing!
Great facilities available for all and only getting better and Better.

We have owned our house in Woy Woy for over 10years now and have moved and rented the place out a few times and the rental return is only growing. The property value has doubled and the area is only growing. Great for investors as you will never have a problem finding tenants as the area is close to all facilities.

Lived in Woy Woy for almost 20 years and enjoy the beach and waterfront. There are more and more restaurants and cafes popping up all the time. Transport is good with train services to / from sydney good during peak times.
We have never had a problem with crime although there appears to be a few annoying graffiti artists that would be good to catch!
The supermarket and town centre could do with a redevelopment as it's looking pretty tired.
There areas that are more nicer than others - but there is a lot of housing development which is gradually eliminating the dodgy areas

woy woy is a pleasant quiet area, surrounded by pelicans and friendly faces, it has beautiful beaches and islands.

Having lived in Woy Woy and the Peninsula for 26 years i have seen the positive and negative sides to this area.

Positives. Beaches, Waterways, Climate, National Parks, Proximity to Rail Lines.

Negatives: High Unemployment, Rail Carpark a hot spot for thieves, Vandalism caused by Teens at night (mainly at the local surf clubs and Umina Shopping Centre). Lack of entertainment for under 18's. Lack of good restaurants.

Woy Woy is on the Central Coast of NSW and is only 82 kms north of Sydney. Woy Woy has long been a favorite weekend destination of Sydney siders looking for a few days away and has become home to many retirees. Surrounding by many other tons Woy Woy means the big lagoon and that is exactly what is there but Woy Woy also boasts some great fishing from Fisherman’s Wharf, close to surf beaches at Umina and Ettalong. There is plenty of accommodation in the way of caravan and camping parks, motels and hotels. There are plenty of shops to cater for all your needs and no end of great places to eat.
