Yagoona, NSW 2199

I love this suburb, having lived in Yagoona as a kid, then moved to Randwick, Coogee and Darlinghurst for over 10 years, I still decided to settle my home now with my kid in this suburb.
The surburb is peaceful, especially the side of the surburb north of Hume Highway. Access to public transport is easy and there are also alot of regular bus routes to Parramatta and Hurstville, which gives you a bit of options. If you must, you can live without a car here. But like us, we own one car in the house and it is enough for almost all of our needs. And parking is a bliss. I have enough space to park 4 cars on the property and 6 cars on my side of frontage on the street. That is something I could not have dreamed of when I was living in the east, nevermind the city, simply impossible. There are just no stress coming home, knowing the street is not going to be cramped with cars everywhere.
Shopping is reasonable, I can get almost everything I need from Yagoona or Birrong shops. When I need to pick up a few more thing, I can head to Bankstown Square or Bass Hill Plaza, both 5-7 min drive away. I am not too fussed about the lack of bank branches here as I have moved to online banking a long time ago. So bank branches are not that important to me. There are ATMs amongst the shops on Hume Highway if you need some cash, but most places takes cards. From a fashion shopping perspective, I work in the city, so the lack of fashion stores in the surburb does not bother me at all. In addition, I use kmart / Amazon online shopping alot for most household things. It's really not that important to be "living amongst" the shops. In fact, I prefer the quite and peace away from the crowds. It is nice to have you own piece of tranquillity.
Schools around the surburb is fine, the teaching staff is very dedicated from my son's school. And I think education amongst a mixed group has proven a good approach. I send my child to the catholic school because of our faith, the level of care from the school is overwhelmingly great.
I am educated in this area, and now I work as a successful executive in my mid thirties. My younger sister went to the public school here, and she is now a very successful tech professional in the Silicon Valley. I think that says alot about the schools here and how they can nurture young minds.
I think the surburb has alot of potential, It is indeed geographically at the center of Sydney. There are still alot opportunities for one to cease up a good piece of land to achieve their "Aussie dream".

Yagoona is a nice and quiet suburb less than 20km from the CBD with regular train services and easy access to the Hume Highway. You can get around most of Sydney while avoiding tolls etc.

It is a great location if you are working in and around the Bankstown, Paramatta or Liverpool CBDs. The cost of living is significately lower than the rest of Sydney if you know where to shop locally.

Prices in Yagoona have outperformed the rest of Sydney in the past couple of years but it is still undervalued.

I grew up here and my parents still live here, I have 40 years knowledge on the area. In the 70's the place was s dream to grow up in, it was safe, you could walk your dog as a young kid and their were plenty of kids playing their own version of soccer and football in the parks, Oneill park hosted a hub of games and their was a great park their and the kids would hill toboggan. The islamic school on Cooper road used to be squash courts, tennis courts and a gym with all sorts of classes and weights. There was no graffitti, no robbery's, no rubbish and it had a real family and community feel to it. Bankstown Pool and Birrong pools close by where lots of kids practiced swimming, bankstown shopping square was big ( not as massive as today) most kids had a job thursday nights and saturdays at Bankstown square.
Sadly over the years the demographic has changed, there is now a lot of graffitti, unkept lawns, no kids to be seen in the parks, probably due to the safety issues and the violence of near by Bankstown, punchbowl, lakemba and Chullora has made headlines all over the world.

People have been shot at Bankstown, several times lately, girls attacked in the local park at Gazzard park while walking home from the train station, the reason the big chain restaurants have moved on is because they got sick of being robbed and vandalised, you only have to look in the toilets at the KFC to see what is all over the back of the doors in there, someoe even set fire to the St Vincent Depauls shop out of an act of vandalism and it burnt to the ground.

The resale values are terrible for Sydney, the area is an extremely slow growing area, when houses at Blacktown and Quakers Hill ( both not so nice suburbs but a lot further out, 50- 60km from the city) seel for more than Yagoona which is only 30 minutes from the CBD it goes to show how bad the area is.

I saw this once lovely green safe suburb go to the dogs over the last 2 decades and all the locals who have family living there for the past 40 plus years will be able to tell you why the suburb has deteriorated so badly, because of the people who moved in.

To look back at what I had growing up here to see my parents installing extra security doors and begging the 9 people that live in the house next to them to PLEASE cut their grass, is just sad and I really feel for the elderly neighbours who once felt safe and happy who now lock themselves up and are frightened of break ins and drive by shootings or getting stabbed to death trying to walk home, google "violence in yagoona, bankstown, greenacre and chullora to see for yourself, break ins, stabbings and rapes, wow, what a great place to raise a young family, NOT.

If you are considering buying a house here then drive around the area, go to the train stations, check out the local shops and near by shopping centres, do a drive by Bankstown centrelink and look at how people keep their houses, pick up a few copies of the local torch newspaper and read how many problems are listed on a weekly basis.

Dont take my word for it though, look into the websites that give you the facts on unemployment, demographic, crime rate etc, it is there for everyone to see. Everyoe would like to think they could grow up and stay in the vicinity to stay conented to friends and family, but everyone I went to school with has moved far far away and with good reason, myself included. The bi-annual visit to Mum and Dads house is always a stark reminder of how good we have it where we live, and they are always happy to come and stay with us to get away from the area, sad when people no longer like where they llive after spending half a century there.

Hi, i have lived in yagoona for over 20 years and seen it as a kid and adult. Firstly it is well centralised as its nearly in the centre of Sydney and close to the industrial areas of all sides and nice parklands and good public transport and only 25km to the city centre. Culturally there are lots of nationalities in the area and as a kid it was safe to grow up in the area, but over time junkies are slowly moving in. The worst part is that lots of shops have closed down and the shopping in yagoona is bad because of the hume hwy and expansion of bankstown square. When i was a kid back in the mid and late 80's, there were 5 banks, franklins, pizza hut, kfc, macdonalds and a squash centre. Now these are all closed except for the kfc and iga! Yagoona is a great place for a young couple to get started, but to retire, no way in hell!

The peaceful suburb of Yagoona suburb has many attractions to offer for all members of the family. For the kids there are safe, spacious and beautiful parks. The neighborhood is friendly, has a harmonious mixture of different cultural ethnicity. There are shopping malls, schools and shops for all the necessities of modern life. The suburb has a homely feel as most streets are residential areas. The suburb has been planned and developed nicely by the council, and it is actively maintained. We have festivals and picnics in our parks at different times throughout the year - and all the major attractions are within short driving distance. Thus the suburb offer the right balance between affordability and amenities.

Don't be fooled any negative reviews, you've to visit this wonderful suburb to see it's true potential. Whether you are looking to own or invest, Yagoona is a great choice as a suburb.

Yagoona is in south western Sydney and is one of the suburbs along the Hume Highway. It has a very large Vietnamese population, so the suburb reflects the population and has lots of Vietnamese bread shops selling your favourite bread and also the famous pork rolls (Vietnamese Baguette). There are super markets and also other shops dotted along the Hume Hwy so the local residents are well serviced with local and convenient facilities. Kentucky Fried Chicken is also in the area and it probably gets a lot of business due to its location. Yagoona was featured in the movie ‘Footy Legends’ which gave it lots of colour and showed that it is just a normal looking suburb with big plots of land.
