Looking for a home in Alexandria?

"Amazing place to raise a family"

Alexandria is an amazing suburb to raise a family. The neighbours are friendly and helpful, the streets, parks and everything in general are always kept spotless. Schools and childcare facilities are top notch. Alexandria is a great suburb to live in if you work in the CBD due to its close proximity and also amazing public transit- takes me about 20 minutes to get to the CBD by train and this will only get better once the Waterloo metro is built.

"How to be a tourist in Alexandria, Sydney (not Egypt)"

If you have a dog, this is perfect. Don’t worry if you don’t, the stroll is good exercise too. Start at Alexandria Park, box around Power Av and Buckland St. Some lovely terraces along Buckland, Garden and Gerard. Hustle down McEvoy St to Fountain St…welcome to good coffee…grab a crispy white wine for later at Dan Murphy’s. Ok, you love peace and quiet? then make the effort to walk up/back/through Belmont and Lawrence Street. These streets are tightly held, so make friends with the locals or even with an agent in the know! By now you are likely thirsty…try the Parkview Hotel for a refreshing cider. Now for the grand finale, head south down Mitchell Rd, grab a pastry or fish and chips along the way and head straight into Sydney Park. Run, walk, bike, picnic, take a selfie on the hill, this place is great for everyone. A recent bonus is the M8 access into Alexandria, yes, this a win for Sydney traffic :). Rentals in Alexandria

"Alexandria 2015 Euston Road"

I've been renting in an affordable rental property for 3 years now and it's just recently sold. I'm glad I guess because this new westconnex main road it's a deal breaker for me.
The traffic is pretty loud and just does not stop.. trucks and buses and your speedway car racer really does my heading.. I use to fall asleep on the lounge watching Netflix and have the balcony door open but that doesnt happen anymore. The noise from the road just makes it to uncomfortable.
Shopping isnt to bad if you like ordering from uber eats or alike.. there is only 1 takeaway shop within walking distance and its pizza.. my god there is only so much pizza one can eat.. but the place does get relatively busy but like I said within walking distance you dont have much choice. Public transport is crap there is only 1 bus that will take you to redfern train station if you need to head to city or catch a train in peak hr traffic you can wait up to 20mins if they run on time or 40mins if it isnt canx.. yeah the 308 also stops after 8pm on a sunday and runs like every hr through the day.. I've been late for work so many times I can't imagine. Security in this block well just like anywhere yes we do have break ins.. I've never been broken into but I'm off the street level and to get in you will need a pretty tall latter to get up.. there had been a breaking and the owners or renters where asleep in the unit at the time of the break in.. they stole the unit key which had a master key ne access to car park and main entry but strata was good as they replace the locks and keys for the whole complex..
Woolworths and dan Murphy's down the road driving is 5mins walking is 15 -20 mins.. both are good stores and good on prices..
There is a lot more units being built in the area but Alexandria needs shops, restaurants bars in the area and better public transport or just more of it..
Just this about it before you move and think about westconnex Mr before packing your bags and decide to come here.. its away from a lot of entertainment and you really need to make the effort if you wanna go out for a casual eating night..

"A true gem a stone's throw from the city!"

We bought our little one bedroom apartment 8 years ago and wished we had invested in something bigger because Alexandria has only gone from strength to strength. It is a true gem and so close to everything. It is a perfect place to live because cafe's, shopping, markets and transport are all walking distance and ever improving. I can't really comment on schooling because we are professionals so I wont even attempt to. There are lovely parks and it is surprisingly green considering the proximity to the city. It also is very affordable considering how close it is to everything and you dont get the constant airplane noise like some of the neighbourhood suburbs.

Great for

  • Peaceful and private considering the proximity.
  • Affordability
  • Proximity to everything

"Sydney Hidden Gem"

I am amazed Alexandria is as affordable as it is, in any other major city around the world a location like this SO close to the CBD with excellent transport would be considered a prime suburb and have the price tag to match and for this reason alone Alexandria has to be considered a hidden gem.

Other than its relative affordability to trendy neighbouring suburbs Erskineville, Surry Hills as well as the City itself, it has come a very long way in its gentrification and has that great urban feel of a previously industrial suburb come good.

Personally I've lived at the top end of the suburb near the technology park for about three years now, and love the fact that its only a 2 min walk to a main train station which in itself is only one stop from central station. Better still if its a nice day then its really not even that far to walk to the city.

Great for

  • Proximity to everything
  • Affordability
  • Yuppie Culture

Not great for

  • Tough to find a place to rent
  • Could do with more greenery
  • Would be nice to have more cafes

"Very close to the city"

Alexandria is an inner city suburb that is about four kilometres to Sydney and there are plenty of buses that service this area. It is usually a twenty to thirty minutes' bus ride to the city or a fifteen minutes' drive to the city. You can also find pubs and cafes around the area.

As a typical inner city suburb in Sydney, the roads in Alexandria are very narrow. Often, buses will have to go on the kerb just to be able to make a turn. Hence, it is a good idea for pedestrians to stand away from the kerb to avoid being hit by a bus.

Alexandria is a good mix of commercial warehouses, residential high rise and low density units as well as heritage terrace houses. Due to its proximity to the city, Sydney University and The University of New South Wales, housing in Alexandria is highly sought after.
