FOUR level apartment block proposed for corner of Anderson & Foote Street!!!!
There has been an application to the council for an apartment block (38 dwellings & basement carpark) to be built on the corner of Anderson & Foote Street. I live in the area and I think this terrible! If it does go ahead, it will ruin the relaxed atmosphere and will be completely out of character for the area.
I love living in Templestowe, love the cafe strip on Anderson St, love the convenience of the IGA, sporting facilities and other specialty stores in the area. I love the relaxed atmosphere of the area, of being in among nature with views to the Yarra Ranges - yet so close to the city.
However, if this monstrosity goes ahead, traffic congestion in the area will also increase (in addition to the stupid hoons that already dangerously circle the area with their "doof doof" music blaring from their cars at all hours in the morning). The privacy of those houses surrounding the proposed site will have none!
I have submitted a formal Objection application the Manningham council opposing the building of this apartment block (the council has advised that a dozen other objections were also received) I've been told that a council meeting will be held to discuss this later in the year.
I really hope that this building does not go ahead. I'm not opposed to building more properties in the area, but a 4 level block??? That i am opposed to.
What are your thoughts people??

Are you serious? Where did you find this out? Is it going to be on the corner of the school? I think you would find most people object to this development, except perhaps the shop owners as they may get more business out of it.
To be honest it doesn't make a lot of sense. It really wouldn't fit the whole "feel" of the area, and would contribute to the traffic congestion in the area. The only thing that would make this ok is if they made a few more restaurants and expanded perhaps down near the 7eleven. I think the shopping area where the fish n chips shops, and indian shops needs a revamp.
What are they doing on the corner of the roundabout? It's been an abandoned building for ages, an old car shop i think.
It was only a matter of time before they did develop Anderson St, I mean you only have to take a look a little further down opposite the bowling club where the massive apartments have been for a while now. Not sure much can be done about it.
Wait until you see the developments that will be going up in Doncaster across the road from Shoppingtown on "Doncaster Hill". They are talking about at least five 15 storey apartment towers.
Unfortunately with the growing population and demand in the Eastern suburbs higher density housing is the future.
Any word on the progress of this? I'm hoping the proposal was canned!
