Angaston, SA 5353

I have travelled a great deal and never felt so ripped off as when I visited Angaston. From the very steep restaurant prices, to the ho hum coffee, Angaston is what I would call a pretender. Other nearby towns are quaint, friendly and you want to stay longer. In Angaston you have Cafés which serve food of questionable origin. Even the street speed limits are there to catch out the poor unsuspecting tourists driving by. The locals were joking about how many are caught as the tourists look around and miss a solitary 50 sign in a thoroughfare street that very clearly just was and still looks like a 60 Zone.

Angaston is a tourist trap where many visitors will spend at least an extra $237 on a ridiculous fine and the locals think that’s funny. Don’t bother visiting or even thinking about moving there. The other Barossa towns are far prettier, more welcoming and with do much more to offer! We were just happy to finally see Angaston from our rear view mirror.

Angaston has a great feel about it, but when most people think of the Barossa Valley, they think Nuriootpa and Tanunda. Leafy town with great little cafe's and pie shops on the main street.

The perfert village, shops, friendly people, local eateries, bars, great food (eg: Roaring 40's - the award winning restuarant) The only downside would be travel time to Adelaide CBD, however if you are buying for a holiday home.. then this place is perfect, it's like North Adelaide but in the Barossa. Cafes, relaxtion and wine all rolled into one. House prices are incredible value within the township and nearby rural.

You can pick up a government semi detached for as low as $150,000 might need some work. Probably one of my favourite towns in the Barossa.

Angaston is located in the heart of Barossa Valley. It is the slower-paced neighbour of the bigger Barossa Valley towns of Nuriootpa and Tanunda. Angaston is about 90 km from Adelaide, and is a drive of about 1 hour and 20 minutes (most of which is via a major dual-lane highway).

Nestled in a valley, this picturesque town has a charming main street with a number of small, interesting shops. Many of the homes in and around the town are grand old houses (some of more than one hundred years old), set on spacious properties with large gardens and perhaps a pool or tennis court. There are also a number of neat brick homes, built in the 1950s onwards.

Angaston is a gourmet hub and an excellent spot for food and wine lovers. It is home to Angas Park (a well renowned gourmet food company, specializing in dried fruit, nuts and chocolates), the Yalumba Wine Company (Australia’s largest family-owned winery) and Saltrams Winery and its famed restaurant and function centre Salters.

The town has a small country town feel, which bustles on the weekends as many tourists explore the strip before hitting the cellar doors that dot the Barossa region.

Like many Australian country towns, sport is a large part of the town’s culture and there is a large oval for football and cricket, along with tennis and netball courts. The Angaston Hotel is the town’s main pub, and offers a good atmosphere on weekend nights and country pub meals.

Overall Angaston is a pretty town, and is a lovely spot that is not too far from other country towns and the major city of Adelaide, but quiet enough for a charming and relaxed country lifestyle set in the midst of the Barossa wine country.
