I moved to Belgrave after 15 years living in Fitzroy, then Yarraville. It's the best life decision I've ever made. My travel to the city each day takes only 5 mins longer than it used to take me to drive over the Westgate (unless there's an accident on a main road, in which case the drive to work is cactus). I wake up every morning to a view that I used to spend a packet to look at when I occasionally stayed at B&Bs. I know all of my neighbours by name, but still have enough personal space to keep to my own when that's my preference. There are foodie meccas hidden everywhere here - some of the restaurants are outstanding. To top all of that off, the local music scene is fabulous. I highly recommend Belgrave. It really is Victoria's best kept secret. Be certain to buy at the top of a hill so that you capture the sun. Jump in before the secret is too wide spread.

There is graffiti everywhere from bogans who spell majority of the words incorrectly. Usually involving racism and hate speech.

I work in the city, surrounded by highrise buildings, windows, concrete and the hussle and bussle of everyday city life. Then coming home to nature, the tranquility, singing birds, the green scenery of Belgrave, its easy to switch off and relax from a hard days work (a glass of red wine infront of the fireplace just tops it off). I have the pleasure to experience both worlds. End to end train rides I get a seat both morning and in the evening, less than 1 hr trip. Here I can start my day with emails and on the way home I can switch off and read a book.

Moving to Belgrave was the best thing we did as a family. I have a 5 and 3 year old and they absolutely love being so close to nature. There is so much to do here, wether in grands picnic grounds to undless selection of bush trails to sight seeing just minutes away from your doorstep. The town centre is alway buzzing on weekends with the most friendly close knit community you always feel welcome. Only less than 20mins drive to a major westfield shopping centre if you ever need the feel the urge to shop, but with local shops and markets its all here in the Town centre of Belgrave.

The stigma of the risk of bushfire living up the hills put me off at the start but now being here, you realise how the community is so connected to the CFA and local council that everyone is looking out for everyone here. I WISH we lived here earlier!! We are only paying $120 more on home insurance then we were paying in the suburbs! People always told us that you'd be paying premium close to 5k.... nope.

If you ever consider living in Belgrave and you take that leap like we did, you will not regret it! Our friends and family from the burbs love the drive up and enjoy our property. We have a balcony that over looks endless treetops in which most houses in Belgrave do!!

Living close to town centre is ideal, however you'd have to pay a little extra. But anywhere in the vacinity of the train station and town centre you will not feel out of reach.

I have grown up around this area and still live close by. It is such a great place to live and work and there is so much to do. There is great access to the city via train or car and also the ability to jump on Eastlink.
Belgrave has a great vibe with heaps of cafes, wine bars, pubs and restaurants so you don't have to travel far for a fun night out. Schools are wonderful with plenty of local primary schools on offer as well as good choice when it comes to secondary education.
There are markets, community events, plenty of different sport clubs, public swimming pool, cameo theatre and parklands, forests and walking tracks.
A wonderful place for young families and anyone wanting a quiet, community filled lifestyle.

Belgrave is the heart of the Hills. It has excellent restaurants, bars and accommodation as well as a variety of interesting shops and even a gorgeous cinema. It is perfectly situated close to the amazing forests and walks of the Dandenongs. People moving to the area are attracted by the unique and beautiful houses nestled amongst the trees and birdlife.
My husband and I have worked in Belgrave for 10 years. The best place for takeaway is Savvy Organic Pizza and Ice Cream https://www.savvyorganic.com.au/pizza! Our pizzas are made with quality ingredients and we also make our own ice cream.
If you're in Belgrave for a day wander the main street making sure they visit the second hand shops. Enjoy lunch in one of the cafes, then see a movie. Choose from one of the excellent restaurants for dinner or pick up some take away pizza for the drive home!
I rate Belgrave 10 out of 10 for a place to live.

Belgrave and the surrounding suburbs are simply wonderful!

It's the beginning of the Dandenong Ranges National Park, so you got all the wildlife and bushwalks at your doorsteps. There are awesome restaurants and cafes everywhere and a couple of nice pubs/bars for entertainment. Off traffic, the drive to the city via either Burwood Highway, Wellington Road/Princess Hwy or the M1 is just 40 minutes or the train just takes under an hour.

It's super family friendly and has a great community spirit. There is still enough privacy as the neighbour's house is very likely too far away to actually bother you (most block of lands are 1000-1500 sqms and higher).

There are heaps of job opportunities in various industries less than 30 minutes drive from Belgrave direction to the city.

It's probably one of the best value for money suburbs regardless if you are buying or renting, and even in a falling market Belgrave has been increasing in value as there is very limited supply of houses. People have been moving from all over the place over the last couple of years and there are more and more young couples with young children who are still fulfilling the Aussie dream of home ownership without being a slave to the banks for their whole life.

We moved from Kew to Belgrave 6 years ago. It is one of the best decisions we made in our life. We love our acreage backyard, the birds, ducks and all fruit trees we planted. It is easy to catch the train to work. People are friendly.

Moved from the Northern suburbs to Belgrave, and it was the best decision ever. All Eastern suburbs are so accessible and the train line directly to the city is great. There are hardly any suburbs left in Melbourne where you get a 1500 sqm piece of land to enjoy your privacy for a reasonable price.
In 2016 4BR houses were sold for $600k, now in 2017 they go for $700k. I am so glad I bought into the market as it won't last long until we reach the $1M level.

The hills is the place to be for young couples/families, artists, elderly people, and singles!

Plenty of outdoor activities and entertainment on the weekends. Cute little Sunday market and parties until 3am in town centre (Sooki Lounge). with a great community spirit where people take care of each other.

Direct train to city is a big plus and heaps of other nice little towns to explore.

Belgrave is the Byron Bay of Victoria without the beach but beautiful hills.

Great community spirit, very welcoming locals and heaps of things to do.

If you work anywhere in the Easter suburbs, Belgrave is the place to be. Forget about the city or inner Eastern suburbs. Belgrave has everything to offer and is only a short drive away from anything that the CBD has to offer. Ringwood or Knox shopping center is a short drive away and everything else is available locally anyway.

One of the last untouched suburbs without apartment blocks everywhere.

Haven't seen much of the 'station rats/junkies', actually haven't seen any of them at all.

I stayed in a quiet little B&B in the gorgeous green town.
The people of Belgrave where very friendly and wonderful to talk to.

The B&B owner and I had a YAK and he told me many stories about the town.
The beds were comfortable, there were even star stickers on the roof just like the night sky!!
The other room was also comfortable and was filled with beautiful photographs and the art work of a local child.
Great hospitality would recommend staying in Belgrave!

We will be going back again.

Great place to visit and live. If you like the outdoors you will love the parks and forest walks. Puffin Billy is a great attraction. One of the few places in the hills with a good night life too.

Belgrave is nestled in the lush surrounds of Sherbrooke Forest.

It also has many facilities including an oudoor heated pool, cinema, lakes, and multiple reserves and national parks.

Great for picnics and only a short ride to Lysterfield park if you like MTB.

For night life Belgrave has Ruby's bar which can have some great unexpectedly high-profile band on stage.

For shopping you have a Safeway in the center of town.

Also you can get a great coffee at a number of places in town including the chocolate sensation.

If you like shopping 15 mins away is either Knox or fountain gate.

Belgrave is the success story of the survey in the Age, shattering the trend of outer areas ranking low. If proximity to city and coast are left out, this gem shoots to number two best place to live in Melbourne.

Love the train ride 1 hour. Always get a seat as it is at the end of the line and I get to catch up on some reading. If you are off the train by 7am it is a free ride.

It Is a mix of Byron, Brunswick with loads to do great schools and hills, just lovely.

Cameo cinemas is a bonus join the club and $11 movies all day every day.

Earthly Pleasures Cafe has great food and very relaxed.

Swimming pool operates in the summer months.

Fountain Gate and Knox are just 15 mins away.

I've known quite a few people who live in and around Belgrave, and they all enjoy it, but say to steer clear of the station rats/druggies.

Owning a car is essential really in Belgrave if you need to go to the city much, as it's a 75 minute train ride and you sometimes have to wait around at Ringwood station on the way there or back. The roads in the area are great fun, Lots of twisty mountainous roads. It's not very far to the Monash.

Ruby's is a good place to go for some live music, I think it has lost a lot of its atmosphere since the smoking ban came in and it's not as mellow as it had been ;), but it's still pretty laid back and some good bands come through.

The Bell Tavern isn't bad either, they serve a very good parma.

It's basically the mountain lifestyle without the pricetag, It's a good place.

Belgrave is a beautiful suburb of Melbourne at the western foothills of the Dandenong Ranges. Burwood Highway, Bayview Road, Belgrave Road, Monbulk Road, Gully Crescent, Blacksmiths Way, Hayes Place, Station St, Wattle Ave all have shops or services on them. Burwood Highway, the main street provides easy access to the CBD in just 40 minutes. Sherbrooke Forest and Falls are located just near the suburb in nearby Kallista and Sherbrooke, Belgrave has all the shops and services you could need, with a Woolworths, a 6 screen Cameo Cinema, showing all the latest blcokbusters plus great arthouse films and hosting a vibrant outdoor cinema, many cafes, resturaunts, clubs, bars, hotels, bed and breakfasts, take-away food outlets, government services, gift stores, libraries, schools, and nearly all specialty stores you can think of, the main street is about 1km filled with shops. The scenery is also picturesque. Also only a ten minute drive from Australia's second largest shopping centre, Knox City + O-Zone. And near other Dandenong Ranges and Yarra Valley towns such as Ferntree Gully, Upwey, Olinda, Emerald, Mount Dandenong, Montrose, Lilydale, Monbulk, Sherbrooke, Silvan, Chirnside Park, Kilsyth and more. Also only a 3 minute drive from the City of Knox, which has Rowville, Bayswater, Bornina, Wantirna and Scoresby. Near the new EastLink. A great place for families, couples, singles and retirees. A great suburb of Melbourne with a population of just under 10, 000. Also has a train station on the Belgrave line, which goes to the city via Ringwood and the famous historic Puffing Billy, travels to Gembrook via Emerald. A great suburb of Melburne, only 35km from the CBD!!!

It is a lovely area - trees, fresh air , lovely houses and lots of public schools to choose from. If you dislike travelling up to 75mins to the city everyday on the train for work, I would not recommend it. Otherwise go for it.
