Reviews of Bonbeach, VIC

"The Gateway to everything"

Bonbeach is one of Melbourne's best little secrets. The Gateway to the Peninsula with FWY access just around the corner and the CBD in just under an hour. The ever so popular destination during the warmer months where the sands of Bonbeach are usualy peaceful yet in Winter you can find many walking their pets! Renowned Kinder and Primary Schools, Sporting Clubs and beautiful walking and cycling tracks that can be used all year round. This neighborhood is a safe and happy place to be for all families and visitors.

"Living In Bonbeach Review"

Pros:

* One of the best beaches in Victoria

* Close To Public Transport (Train Station)

Cons: The train station is very outdated with no public toilets, Bonbeach station needs a upgrade so does few other stations on the Frankston train line.

I think all train stations should have public toilets to be honest incase someone needs to go.

* What could be better: There should be more cafes & restaurants between Carrum & Aspendale a lot of empty old shops which I think is a waste.

Other Than that it's great to live in bonbeach.

"Full of dog poo"

I live here and cannot wait to get out - so much dog poo everywhere. Try walking from Mernda Avenue or Mascot along the sea inlet path to Carrum train station. Also, loads of dog owners ignore the beach rules - given up sunbathing on the beach as hassled by dogs. Lot of barking as well - this dull suburb has put me off dogs completely. It's a pretty boring place and facilities are very limited - you have to go to Carrum and not much there - tired and run down. At least it has a train station and beach. I'm moving to Sandringham or South Yarra - much more buzzy, better demographic and facilities

In all I have said below, I must agree. If your renting and can move around like that Sandy and Hampton are a preference or for a cool $2M. and min $600 pwk in rent for a below average place - dont thing there are no dogs under the City of Bayside because there ARE and they have RIGHTS too. Huge dog community right there.

"Moved from Patterson Lakes"

Bonbeach has always been an out of the way afterthought until I moved out of Patterson Lakes after 20 years, where I watched it grow and grow and get over populated with traffic, one road in one out - then there is Carrum Station dog leg to contend with... No thanks. So we moved across to Bonbeach - not an estate and easy access to a glorious sandy beach - Im originally from Hampton so I know the difference between clean and polluted. That said, its a suburb all on its own with a laid back vibe. Safe and 'just affordable' 'just' so if your thinking of buying here don't bother ;) as you would start a trend- Im not sure if that is a good thing or not. It could do with a couple of Restaurants and cafe's so anyone wanting to open up (I am sure there are restaurateurs out there that would) go for it the locals will love you for it.). Love the place, looking forward to the years ahead.

Great for

  • Summer Vibes
  • East Link access without being too close - Nepean Highway - South West links and CBD.
  • Springvale Road access - Train Line - Vehicle access to all points in or out are fantastic. - Its on a GRID - no dead end estates.

"Gets better and better"

Lived here a few yrs ago and miss it terribly. Crazy good beach, ovals and easy to access everything. A few more cafes would be good, but you're so close to so many. It's a small suburb that is attractive to everyone. I miss it but can't afford to move back there

"Great little community with access to the city"

Not sure where the negative reviews some from. Trains run to the city every ten minutes. Bus routes through the town. Some great cafes have sprung up in the last few years, with a five minute walk to Chelsea and their shops. Not the most happening place but a great place to live with the beach nearby.

"Glad I only work out this way...."

Not sure why people are on about Bonbeach so much, has to be the most overrated suburb on this site. Miles away from anything (except the lousy beach), one, yes ONE, public transport option, close to Seaford/Frankston so get used to hearing rev limiters on V8s, sopping options lacking (although new home maker center up the road is okay) shall I go on?

Not great for

  • No nightlife
  • Feels like a ghost town
  • No shops

Working somewhere and living somewhere are two different things. I guess you would spend at least 6 hrs infront of people or a screen? People move away from being in the heart of the 'amenities' so they can visit them and leave for some peace and quiet.. Depends how you want to live. You haven't' really said where you live or prefer to live as in sleep at night. Bonbeach is laid back.

"Overrated"

I am not sure who the people are that are writing on here however the information is clearly incorrect. There are no shops in Bonbeach for a start - expect mayby a milkbar, bottle shop and pizza shop. There is one cafe..

There is not a bad football club and a basketball stadium. There is also the beach which is nice, and the train but it is a long way from the city..

It is not a bad place but it falls down in relation to neighboring Carrum (better shopping, cafe's, parks, golf, boating facilities) and Chelsea (better schools, shopping and parks)

(Note: ex resident - Since moving out, Bonbeach has been rezoned to include areas that were previously carrum. If you inlcude patterson river in the boundaries and patterson river country club then there is reason to consider it an improved area.)

lived in P/Lakes, Carrum, Hampton, Country Vic on Acerage, I can tell you now I would never move back to congested carrum or P/Lakes because of the congestion and the amount of crime that has escalated. There wasn't a time in Carrum where some weirdo wasn't knocking at my door or stealing my laundry off the line!. (need I continue?!) Not sure what you have experienced but Im not getting that in Bonbeach!

"It just gets better and better!"

Cant speak more highly of this bayside beauty. More and more are catching on to the beautiful beach, cafes, transport, parks, recreation. As the oldies move out, the young professionals move in. In 5 years time, you'll wish you bought here!

"Heart Bonbeach"

What a wonderful secret. Great place to live and an excellent place to invest. Surrounded by parks, river, the best beach in Melbourne, transport, amenities and shops galore! An already tightly held property market will mean gains gains gains! We have bought a house to live in and another to invest - will be a highly sought after location in the future. Scotch Parade is a great location (close to a fantastic running track) and the other end close to Station Street for trains and beach access. A great lifestyle choice!

"MELBOURNE"S BEST KEPT SECRET!!!"

Love the area, love the people. Royal Rd is the nicest street in Bonbeach. Lived there for 5 years before selling and building a new home in the same area. Great for families and young couples. Closeness to the beach, railway station makes it too attractive, hence resale value and increased rent in the last couple of years! Parks, playgrounds, pony club, halls, cafes!!! The area to be in!!!
Thank you from me and the girls Vlad for moving us into Bonbeach!

"Like a sea side resort only 30 KM's from Melbourne"

It's the best Beach in Melbourne. Sand is clean and water has the most colours imaginable. It is truly one of Melbournes best kept secrets... whoops shhhh.

Walking down the beach to the shops each day.. can it get any better.

Freedom with your faithful pet, beats any park.

Private schools & Golf courses nearby.

Launch a boat from Patterson River and float it in your very backyard.

Enough said ... Enjoy it for yourself.

"Good parks and playgrounds around"

Bonbeach is a nice area to be, friendly but not nosey or in your face.
There is a good coverage of public transport to get you where you need to go. It’s not too far into the city for the commuters but it will be a reasonable trip.
There are some good parks and playground around the area which for those with young kids, is very important. I'd go crazy if I had to drive suburbs over to satisfy my daughter's need for a slide or swing at the park.
The shops close by will give you all that you need but not far beyond that are other major centres where you can get all you need an then some.
There are aged care homes in the area for retirees, and who wouldn't want to retire to an area like this. A good area for families and retirees but probably not so much for those looking for a thumping nightlife and the best restaurants in Melbourne.
