Boronia, VIC 3155

Boronia has the beautiful, natural, green backdrop of the hills and the Dandenong Ranges National Park. There are also nature reserves and extensive bike paths/lanes. Education is widely covered with five primary schools and one secondary school sitting within the Boronia boundaries. One of the major selling points of Boronia is the easy access to all transport and major freeways. The Boronia train line runs from Boronia to Melbourne CBD 7 days a week, a bus service provides public transport throughout the suburb and the tram service is only 15kms away. Boronia has a Kmart, Coles, Woolworths and a handful of eateries. Also close by to the newly renovated Westfield Knox and Eastland for the more serious shoppers! With its abundance of amenities and beautiful natural surroundings, Boronia is undoubtedly a great suburb that is worth considering!

Been living here for a year and so far so good! Boronia mall is kind of a time capsule but other than that happy with accessibility, shopping centre and family friendliness of the suburb!

Boronia is a somewhat divided area. North and central being the worst areas and Boronia West (bordering Wantirna South) being the nicest. I’ve personally lived in that western pocket for a good seven or eight years and it’s great. Obviously feels a bit dated plenty of old people but I’d feel very comfortable raising a family here, avoid around the centre of Boronia as it can feel a bit more debatable in the later hours, just a couple lower class people floating around, no big deal but be aware.

Boronia mall is a bit outdated but honestly if you are looking for an area in which you grow your family and enjoy the open spaces available while having access to a lot of amenities around you, I do suggest Boronia! Also, there is a strong sense of community here....

I’ve lived here for 28 years. The main part of town is screaming out for some kind of renovation that will pull the depressing Boronia mall out of the 80’s. The infrastructure around those parts at Dorsey square feels so dated.
Boronia is a good spot for living in terms of how close it is to everything good. Like Mount Dandenong, the Yarra valley, the beach and the city. They’re all within reasonable trips. I consider it more of a base for the things I love rather than somewhere I love living. It has everything you’d expect a suburb to have. Schools and childcare, lots of football ovals, parks and shops - mostly just the usual suspects of Australian takeaway. Not great vegan options. It seems like the suburb over - Bayswater has seen rise to considerably more developmental refresh than Boronia of late. Shopping outside of Woolworths Boronia is often a comical and sometimes sketchy experience. Growing up it was a pretty conservative area. I feel like the insane development has given rise to a lot more younger families and people living out here. It’s wild how many apartments and townhouse developments are going in.

But overall I just think it kinda sucks 😂 the estates are fine. Maybe I’m just used to it. Or maybe I can’t get over the Boronia mall. It’s redeeming quality is that it has a K-mart. But that’s right next to a really old
Coles. Which is made redundant by the bigger and better Coles like 5 mins away in Bayswater.

I have lived in Boronia since 2012 and have never regretted the decision to move here. There is a real sense of community where I live, neighbours are friendly, kids still play in the street and people take pride in their homes.

love Boronia! Simply safe and green! Like anywhere else, the train station might need some attention but overall amazing!

Boronia is a unbelievable suburb , there are lots of great eateries and drinking holes to visit. It's value is great , lifestyle is awesome with lots of parks and nature reserves close by. For two years it was very safe and very good this years 2021 not so much anymore. Lots of rest assistance scum bags are migrating to this area and we are talking ex jail birds and recovering drug addicts. Bayswater since has had a clean up around the station particularly , which I wouldn't venture too at night even now. The displacement of these derelicts are filtering into boronia by means of the government assisting them to afford housing that's not in there grips before covid now seems a good deal. On a weekend day it's very quite and peaceful but come the weekend there are hoons doing stunts on the road , I watched a drug bust two weeks ago in my street and alot of homeless people loiter around knox city and boronia mall at night looking to pick a fight. High tide the police did some beat work and it cleaned it up again. Closer to the mall seems to get better but for context it's safe overall just stick to your home and the major shopping centres during day light hours at night be inside away from the road warriors and drunk / high homeless derelicts. I have almost been whiped out crossing Burwood highway by a hoon who ran a red light. Stay away from the boronia train station as a regular drunk homeless guy patrols on foot itching for a fight. Increase in police patrols would clear out the scum of earth and restore it back to its once great value. Its semi safe I'd say fairly compared to where I used to live in burwood which is completely safe. 3 of 5 suburb. Can get to 5 again if the police started to patrol.

After readings some of the reviews it feels like I don't know Boronia all that much even after owning and living a house here for close to a year now. The unusual encounter with druggies etc. are usual for Melbourne. Not sure where are those commenting lived before that they are surprised. Train station does have some people hanging around that you want to avoid but there is a police station next to it and there is foot patrol by police all the time.

To me Boronia is a solid investment place if you want to live in the east and access all the great facilities that are available to you. All the major highways, public transports are available at arms length. House price is increasing in last few years and rent yield is pretty good. Not to mention that Boronia is perhaps the only established in the east which is so close to the mountain yet can reach CBD in less than an hour. This is a great suburb to raise a family.

Born and raised in the Ferntree Gully Boronia area. Never encountered a problem with anyone. Foot of the Dandenong ranges. Trees, birds, clean air, views and easy access to the city. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else.

As a real estate agent, I suggest buying a house in Boronia is an excellent investment. Boronia has been one of the high performers in growth suburbs (14.5% from Jun to September 2019).

Boronia mall is a little run down. Boronia can be a better suburb with a new shopping centre though Knox westfield and eastland shopping centres are not very far away!!

Boronia and the surrounding suburbs are great!

It's at the foot of the Dandenong Ranges National Park, so you got all the wildlife and bushwalks at your doorsteps. There are awesome restaurants and cafes around you and more is popping here and there everyday! The commute to the city via either Burwood Highway or M3 is just 45 minutes or the train just takes under an hour.

Boronia mall should be probably demolished and a new shopping centre should be developed....

After all, It's family friendly and has a great community spirit in most parts!

It is a great place to raise kids. Everything you need is within your walking distance. There are also lots of playgrounds.

We have been living in Boronia in the last two years and it has been all great so far.

I've lived in Boronia for 10 years and absolutely love it. Lovely little suburb filled with parks and walking trails as well as a picturesque view of the Dandenong ranges. I've never felt unsafe and have no issues walking around the area in the evenings or any time of day for that matter. I find most of the residents very friendly and feel a sense of community here. I would recommend Boronia to anyone who likes the country side village feel without being too far away from the city. The mall is a little run down but new cafes and restaurants are popping up and making it much nicer.

Have lived here for over eight years and in that time have had to deal with - a violent gang of youths trying to jump over my fence in the middle of the night, hoons racing up and down the street at all times of the day and police regularly attending a neighbouring household where doof doof and revving cars are the usual.

The train station and surrounds are even worse, with syringes and smashed bottles regularly spotted on the ground, and drugged up bogans loitering around the decrepit shopping centre, which would be better razed to the ground. It is hard to believe that anyone would live here given the choice. If you have the financial means, please save yourself the trouble and stay away.

A friend moved here recently and I am pleasantly surprised. Affordable housing on proper sized blocks. A 45 minute train trip to the CBD and apparently you get a seat!

Lovely drive from Boronia up to Sassafras, about 10 minutes. Here you find lovely cafes and quirky shops.

The Boronia Mall lets Boronia down. My friend hopes this place is earmarked for redevelopment.

Boronia's a bit of a hit or miss, housing prices are increasing slowly to reflect it. The train station in well built in a convenient location but train timetables are a tad sparse due to it's location.

The bike trails around the station (rail trail) connecting to the eastlink trail are really nice for jogging and cycling and is well maintained. My only gripe is the shattered glass bottles and that people constantly leave all over the trail. It is both a hazard to cyclists and pedestrians and is particularly concerning as the trail runs through and connects many of the parks and playgrounds where kids and families play and walk their dogs.

During the day it's okay and around most public areas at night there are protective services officers are visible evidence of police patrol. There is a general sense of community in many of the residential areas, especially around local milkbars and schools.

However, I try and avoid staying out and about at night. I don't feel safe at these times especially around the bus stops outside of police patrol area. On one of the rare occasions I've gotten home late I have been stopped by strangers and threatened for money. Public toilets still have to be locked to prevent "anti social behavior."

Overall, boronia is a nice place to live and it's getting better with the areas around train stations and parks being developed further, but there are a couple of people who ruin the area for the community.

Full disclosure, I'm a real estate agent, and I do sell in Boronia! However, I sell all over Victoria, and I really feel Boronia is a wonderful suburb that is really on the move. Boronia is perfect for families with loads of open space and parks. The environment is lovely, loads of trees line the streets, and you are right at the foot of the Dandenong Ranges. Boronia is changing and I recommend seriously looking at buying here as I believe in time it will prove to be a great investment.

Moved from Rowville 6 months ago after 27 years and it’s been a life changer. Am in a beautiful pocket of Boronia surrounded by trees and birds. Amazing views of the hills. Little traffic and a feeling of community.
As for Boronia’s ‘bad reputation’ well I haven’t seen or heard of any problems but the absence of visible signs of the police would help more.

I lived in ferntree gully before which is very close to boronia. Boronia, where we almost shopped everything before. We bought a stunning townhouse last year and really loved it. We find it very quiet and peaceful. Never experience what these people saying about bad things in Boronia. Shopping late nights every week and never had issues about it. We love our neighboorhood. Hey, not only bogans living in boronia I can make sure of that! My neighboorhood is surrounded by wealthy business people and professionals. Luxury cars every houses, I don’t agree with these people saying stupid things about this area. There are bad people and bad things in every suburbs wherever you go. There might be areas in boronia you could experience these bad stuff but not the whole town of boronia. Just like every streets, every cities, every countries, everywhere there will be bad people and bad stuff. But for me and my family, this is our home now so we really enjoy and love it!

Lived here over 12 years and commute daily by train. Nice green spaces/parks, friendly neighbours, proximity to the Dandenomgs and transport access to city. shopping area could be improved particularly boronia mall but there is also very close proximity to both eastlands and knox shopping centre. kids attend st Joseph's primary school which has a very nurturing and pastoral approach with a strong community focus including a great fete in March of every year. Boronia is not perfect by any stretch of the imagination but overall it's been a good place to live and bring up my family over the last 12 years.

We moved here a little over 3 years ago, and have been enjoying getting to know Boronia and the surrounding areas :)

Highlights;
* Have found it to be affordable without being too "far out" (have noticed prices going up since that time though)
* very close to the Dandenongs-which is great to explore!
* Plenty of local shops and essential services (eg supermarkets, post office, library etc)
* awesome for bargain hunters with lots of $2 shops and op shops!
* as others have mentioned, it's not too far from the City, Knox Shopping Centre and plenty of public transport options (trains/busses)
* great for families with young children with plenty of local parks/playgrounds (many which have recently been upgraded), playgroup and Libraries- both in Boronia and surrounding areas (check out Knox City Council Website for what's around)

A couple of things to mention;

* Boronia Mall (next to Kmart) is a bit depressing as there are lots of closed shops (would be great if this could be re developed)
* I find the main shopping areas a bit disjointed to get around at times- much easier to walk than drive eg between Boronia Junction and Kmart area-especially just before Christmas!

In terms of other comments made about "Bogans" and it being a dangerous area, there are people living in this area who are disadvantaged (as you can find in most areas) but I've personally not felt unsafe while living here.

I wouldn't describe Boronia as a "cool" suburb but feel it's an "up and coming" suburb....definitely check it out and...watch this space! :)

This aria has gone down hill rapidly over the last 5 years. The state government has put up a heap of commission houses that has braught drug addicts into the aria in droves. The local shopping mall resembles a wasteland. Assaults are commonplace. Drug deals are done in the open and the police don't care. You regularly see them go down in the McDonald's car park opposite the police station or on the road behind the police station. Yes there is a train station and busses but they are far to dangerous to use. People openly carry weapons around them. I'm so glad I have just gotten out of the aria. Unless your interests include tattoos, bikies and drug abuse, Boronia is not for you

Very good suburb to live in the East if you are not able to afford in Glenwaverley or Wantirna.Boronia has a TrainStation and plenty of buses and bus stops.Has Knox leisure works for swimming,library,Basketball stadium.Very good parks.Good location to live for young families with kids.Coles,Woolworths,subway,pizza shops,$2 shops and lot more nearby.Good place to buy a house or unit.Peaceful atmosphere. No negativities.Living in Boronia from past 8 months after exploring all the other Eastern suburb areas.Boronia is very good and affordable.

I have lived in Boronia for 22 years. This is where I brought up my four kids. It is central to everywhere. We are situated on a large block but are still in walking distance to the shops, parks, walking tracks, train, bus and roads.

Terrible suburb full of bogans. Terrible schools, terrible shops, terrible cafes and terrible people.

I have lived in Boronia for 18 years and it has so many good things about it that I don't understand why the property prices are not higher in value. I have lived in other areas of Knox and I believe there are more good points about living in Boronia compared to other areas of Knox. Boronia is very much underrated as a place to live.

Clean and green with fantastic views of Mount Dandenong, Close to all possible facilities needed, such as shops, schools, pubic transport, and freeways. Only 25kms to the CBD makes it the most valued place to live with abundant birdlife and wildlife at your door, tells you something.

I have lived in and around Boronia my whole life. Boronia is a very family friendly area at the foothills of the Mt Dandenongs. Shopping options are great with numerous sets of shops within the suburb as well as Knox City only a 5-10 minute drive away. Only 20 minutes from Sassafras and another 5-10 to Olinda- great places to visit on a Sunday.

I like being close to Shops, Train station, Parks and walking tracks which reduces the need for a car. Lots of growth with new houses going up on large land plots and only 30 min drive to the city via new free-way.

Nice place, good access to shopping and public transport, not far from the city, but far enough that it's nice and there isn't much crime.

It's far enough away from the city to be in the trees and space but is only 30km away from the city so it doesn't take too long to get there.
My favourite things about Boronia are the people, the atmosphere and wind in the trees on a peaceful night.
I've lived in Boronia for 25 years in the same house, the neighbourhood is friendly, there are plenty of people walking their dogs up the steep hill toward the dandenongs national park. I don't hear cars at night, just possums sometimes.

Great neighbours. Love the birdlife, parks and views. Good shopping in Boronia with plenty of dining out choices, and not far from either Knox City or Eastland for major shopping and/or nights out. CBD is only 30 minutes away on Eastlink.

I bought a house 6 months ago here in Boronia. Since then I have found my neighbours to be the best I've ever had so far, really friendly and down to earth people. I live on Dorset rd which is a busy road yet I am so close to absolutely everything I could ever need, everything is within walking distance. The public transport in Boronia is fantastic, the shopping is great and really reasonably priced, Kmart is now also open 24 hrs so that's even better. Kent Park Primary is down the road in F.T.G which was recently known to show the best academic results from there students in the whole of Knox. Boronia also has fantastic places for eating, there are cafeteria's everywhere, and all different types of ethnic foods. Boronia Hall is great for parties or functions and we have our own bowling alley and picture theatre. There are many things here for kids including the Abortorium just down on Dorset Rd, a dance school, martial arts school, tennis courts, A battery operated car motor racing track where kids race there cars on a Wednesday night. All this and then just down the road is Knox City Shopping Centre. Boronia is a great place to buy a house, it isn't as expensive as the surrounding areas such as Wantirna, Knox, F.T.G, Scoresby yet has everything those areas have including more.... BORONIA A GREAT PLACE TO LIVE AND IT'S AFFORDABLE!!!!!
