Bronte is a beachside suburb of Sydney, in the state of New South Wales, Australia.
Bronte beach is located 8 kilometres east of the CBD, in the Waverley Council local government area of the Eastern Suburbs.
Bronte Beach sits on Nelson Bay, surrounded by Bronte Park.
Bronte offers scenic cliff-top walking paths south to Coogee via the Waverley Cemetery and north to Tamarama and Bondi Beach.
The cliff-top path offers views which extend from Ben Buckler in the north to Malabar in the south.
Bronte is located about 2.5 km south of Bondi Beach.

Sport and Recreation

Bronte has an important surfing culture. The Bronte Surf Lifesaving Club was founded in 1903 and claims to be the oldest surf lifesaving club in the world. An annual long-distance ocean swimming event is held in December each year between Bondi Beach and Bronte
Bronte is represented in one of the most popular sporting competitions across Australia, the National Rugby League competition, by the local team the Sydney Roosters, officially the Eastern Suburbs District Rugby League Football Club

I have been a lifelong local and now i am very pleased to be a local Real Estate Agent here in Bronte. I have been a member of Bronte Surf Club for over 20 Years and absolutely love calling Bronte Home. The beach, the cafes and the people are sensational. it is a very friendly suburb and now becoming super trendy. Real Estate here is always popular with Median house prices always on the rise, it proves as a great long term investment suburb.

Everyone will tell you how great Bronte is, and I live here, and agree with that. I own a great house here in Hewlett Street. My street is fantastic. I recall with delight the lovely welcome we received when we moved in and the continuing friendliness and compassion exhibited by the community around us. But Bronte has a dark side too.

Bronte - Bronte/Gully is a recovering eco-system. For example, the houses between Alfred Street and Murray Street on the southern side of Hewlett Street are built on the old Bronte tip. Prior to their erection, building demolition rubbish from the eastern suburbs was dumped in the gully as it was convenient. Consequently, building rubbish, including asbestos fibro and broken glass can still be observed along the back of those houses and in the children's park. Ironic isn't it, that Bronte was once spurned for its working class origins and that houses built on dumps are now highly prized. Wish someone would so something about the asbestos though. Community spirit is great and the gully is being reforested with native trees. Not sure though that deals with the remediation issues.

I also have had difficulty finding out more about the history of Bronte. I encourage others to add to or correct my comments to enrich our knowledge about our area. I could wax lyrical about all the advantages of living in Bronte but just wanted to add some balance to that with the above comments.

A friend of mine I worked with lived in Bronte for years...and she was trying to 'coax' me across from the Lower North Shore. She kept saying 'once you'll live here, you'll never want to leave...'.
When I finally made the move across, we bought a 'Chateau Shoebox' in Hewlett Street. It was perfect...just opposite the beach, a quick hop to Bondi Junction and to the city...the best of both worlds. The locals are all proud Brontesauruses! Whether it's 'Heath Ledger lived there...' or 'Sarah and Lachlan Murdoch just bought here...' everyone is kinda chuffed if a 'celeb' moves in to the neighbourhood. Mind you, the neighbours are a mix of people - from the 'regulars' you'll see at the Bogey Hole for their early morning swims, or visitors coming in for the day with their baskets full of food for a day at the beach and barbecue...or Mums at the playground chasing their toddlers around the park or the famous Bronte tram, which has been operated by the same family-run business for many, many years...I miss you Bronte, you're a good friend!

I live in Bronte and I really love it. Easy to get into the city, plenty of nice little restaurants to eat out in and everyone is really friendly. A place where you walk down the street and give a little gday as you walk past someone. Tops!

Bronte has been settled since the 1830’s. There are quite a few historic buildings in the area with many varied architectural styles. The Bronte Surf Life Saving Club was founded in 1903 and is the oldest SLSC in the world. Every year there is a long distance swimming race between Bondi Beach and Bronte.

Its commercial district is unique. The only business premises are restaurants – there is no other type of shop. The residents have to travel just to buy their bread and milk! Houses in the area come with quite a hefty price tag.

Bronte’s most recent claim to fame is that in the 2008 Sydney Morning Herald’s Good Suburbs Guide it was voted the best out of 641! It therefore really must have something!

There is one public primary school in the suburb. Older children need to travel to neighbouring suburbs to go to school – not that anything is really very far from Bronte.

Bronte is for those who love the beach and the lifestyle that goes with it.
