Reviews of Bungendore, NSW

"Lovely but strange"

Bungendore is the strangest place to live. Country town meets suburbia in a paddock.
The old town is charming (think early Southern Highlands NSW) and it could be really fantastic with some more investment, foresight and planning.
An interesting collection of great galleries and quirky shops, good IGA, great pub (The George), some OK cafes, one good restaurant (French) and then contrast this with some of the tackiest shops, cafes and ordinary restaurants you will ever experience.
Residents are a mix of local farmers, long time locals, and "FIFO" Defence workers and/or public servants. Interesting mix. Lots of families with young children. Great parks and reserves.
Housing is varied. There are some lovely old properties close to town and in Old Elmslea, but these are outnumbered by some pretty horrible and dejected rambly old homes. The new areas are largely dreadful; ugly, new and stark houses in dust bowls, next door to manicured mega-mansions. Lots of old cars, and trucks, and rubbish in people's yards. And every house seems to have one or more dogs; the majority of which never get walked.
In summary it is largely a country town with a choice of housing for everyone, perfectly position between Canberra and the coast.

"Rural lifestyle so close to Canberra and the NSW South Coast"

If you're looking for a tree-change and can land a job in Canberra, Bungendore is a great pick. Just 40 mins into Canberra each day for work, and one hour the other direction through Braidwood to Bateman's Bay, Bungendore is perfectly positioned to provide you with a great country lifestyle.

The town itself may take a little while to charm you, but there is loads on offer like cafes, restaurants, pubs, local wineries, a public school and great community atmosphere.

Get in quick! Bungendore's proximity to Canberra makes it attractive and the prices are climbing as more and more people seek a country lifestyle with all the benefits of being so close to Canberra.
