Reviews of Burns Road, Wahroonga

"Iconic Wahroonga Street"

Don't be fooled by the Google Street View image of Burns Rd, it is a significantly prettier street than shown. Known for its very large blocks and equally large homes it is one of the best 2 or 3 streets in Wahroonga, although that comment might spark some debate as some will say it is the best. Looks great all the time but especially so during autumn. Home of the Bush School & also St Edmunds School.

"How the other half live...."

This is one of those magical residential streets that make me wish I was wealthy, very wealthy. The street is reminiscent of upper-crust English country villages.

Overhung with the boughs of large trees, Burns Rd is like a tunnel of green, with speckled light filtering through. The blocks are huge, vast even, and the houses are almost all like small manor houses. Most have large pools, and many have tennis courts.
The houses are mostly old (some are Tudor style), exuding stately charm. There’s nothing garish to see here.

There are speed bumps the length of the road, and it is not a hugely popular through-route. The street is also home to The Bush School – Wahroonga’s local public primary. I can’t imagine why any of the locals would send their kids to a private primary, given this choice of lovely schooling. St Edmund’s School – a high school for kids with disabilities is also located on Burns Rd.

The fairly extensive village facilities, including large garden-like park (with playground) and train station, of Wahroonga are an easy walk from the western end of the road, but as it is a long road – perhaps only driving distance from the eastern end.

It’s a magnificently gracious and beautiful street, but sadly only affordable to the privileged few.
