Reviews of Camperdown, NSW

"A relaxed suburb full of life"

Camperdown is a great place to live for young people who want to make the most of their time at uni, while still living somewhere that is safe and beautiful.
Most of the people living in Camperdown are students or young families, so neighbours are often friendly and forgiving when it comes to parties. Camperdown locals are very friendly in general, and while living here I was often greeted warmly while walking to get my morning coffee.
Camperdown Park, Camperdown Oval and Victoria Park are all lovely places to relax and spend time with friends (although Camperdown Park is often full on the weekends).
Transport options are great as the suburb is a short walk from Newtown Station, King St bus stops and Parramatta Road bus stops.
There are many cute cafes scattered throughout the suburb (including a couple by Camperdown Oval that will bring your food out to you in the park), and many restaurants, bars, and cafes on King St nearby.
The streets themselves are mostly lovely and leafy, with beautiful old terrace houses. There are also many street libraries full of community donated books.
I would say that Camperdown is quite safe, although less so on Friday and Saturday nights due to the crowds out partying on King St.
Overall I think if you're a young student looking for somewhere to live nearby the uni, Camperdown is the place for you. If you're a professional or have a family, perhaps this is not the best suburb for you.

"Great place in the city/inter west"

I have lived here for 8 years since I studied in Sydney uni, moved to a different building after graduated, got married and then bought an apartment in this suburb. 10 mins walk to Broadway shopping centre and Annadale village, 5 mins to Sydney uni library and RPA, 30 mins to the office in CBD (door to door).

"Camperdown"

Pretty much an inner-city suburb dominated with terraces, University, RPA hospital and a towering social housing estate full of ice, gangs, transgender prostitutes and crime, people almost regularly die at that complex, and it is almost always connected to intoxication or drug related, hence why they fenced the courtyard off from non-residents. Do not walk around here at night unless you want to get held up at the point of a rusty bloody syringe

"Inner City vibe in the Inner West"

Where can you find one of the Oldest and well known Hospitals in Sydney? Close to some of the World re-known universities? Some of the most well done ware house and heritage listed property conversions! Camperdown that is where.

Pros:
Charm and Character of re developed warehouse and property conversions such as the - Biscuit Factory, City Quarter, Chocolate Factory, The Grace, The Gantry & Frank's Upholstery Factory
Camperdown Fitness
Royal Prince Alfred Hospital
University of Sydney
Only 4.3kms or 10 minutes by car to the city CBD
Close to Light Rail, Public Transport, Newtown night life and Harold Park

Cons:
Housing Commission Building located on Pyrmont Bridge Road
No Direct Train Station

As you can see the positives far outweigh the negatives to live in Camperdown, this trendy and character filled suburb is filled with mostly professional singles/couples and is a great area for property investment due to its location to RPA the City and Universities.

"perfect...if it wasn't for the house in commissions"

l lived in Camperdown for 3 years, very easy to get everywhere, however, the 2 huge house in commissions in Camperdown bring to this lovely suburbs the worst. overpriced and small apartments don't help.

Rentals in Camperdown

"The centre of the (inner west) action"

While it's not precisely the centre of the inner west, Camperdown manages to be close to all the reasons you moved there. Lively King St and Erskineville Rd are no more than a 10 minute walk and the more spread out, greener Leichhardt and Annandale are only a stones throw away. I've lived in Newtown and surrounds for 10 years so Camperdown was the next logical step having outgrown the desire to live in the thick of the party strip (King St, Enmore Rd). The City buses down Parramatta Rd are often a speedier option than catching one from the aforementioned streets as well.

Great for

  • Parks and reserves
  • Proximity to Newtown food, shopping and nightlife
  • Cool modern apartment living (factory and warehouse conversions)

"Convenient Camperdown"

Camperdown is a great place to live. It is covered by Marrickville and City of Sydney Councils. It is also divided by Parramatta Road. There is a great mix of Ultra Modern Apartments at Trio, Beautiful Grand Victorian Terraces and Workers Cottages. Many of the Grand Homes and Workers cottages have been renovated and restored. Great transport options, with a very good bus service from all parts as well as easy walking distance to Newtown station. Price wise it generally averages higher median prices then it's Neighbours of Erskineville, and Newtown. There are also still quite a few local pubs on the street corners. So drink and food wise great options of the local's and King Street. I purchased here around 9 years ago, and the market continues to go from strength to strength. If you can afford Camperdown, I am certain you will do well and enjoy it as much as I do!
