Reviews of Cannington, WA

"Great Suburb"

Cannington receives a bad wrap by many, but it is as good a suburb as any. I have lived in this suburb for over 12 years. It is close to Westfield Carousel, the train station, bus services and there’s always plenty of activities for families. It’s within close proximity to a wonderful library and leisure plex and of course is host to the amazing Canning Show. It is convenient for both Leach and Roe Highways. William Street and Albany Hwy are host to countless retail stores - not to mention the vast array of eateries. 3 veterinarians are within close proximity. It has several primary and high schools and is only minutes away from Curtin University. Yes there is crime - what suburb doesn’t have any and yes there is some air craft noise, but all in all there is no other suburb I would rather live in.

Looking for a home in Cannington?

"Bad experience"

I had been living at Cannington since 2010 and moved out in 2013.

I am so glad I can move out from this terrible place.

I lived in one of the houses on Gibbs Street which is near Cannington Train Station.

I usually parked my car on the street overnight. During those 3 years:
My car window was broken 4 times.
My front bumper was kicked by someone.
Someone broke into our house once.
Every Friday and Saturday night, you could see lots of drunkies and bogans walking around the Train Station.

Great for

  • Close to Carousel shopping centre
  • Close to public transports (train, buses)

Not great for

  • High crime rate

"A very accessible and affordable location"

Cannington has many great features, but out of all I believe the best is to be its proximity to the City, and the accessibility to/from the Perth CBD, as well as other major centres such as the Airport, Canning Vale and Fremantle. The major Surrounding Highways (Roe, Albany, Kenwick Link, Nicholson Rd, Leach Highway, Manning Rd) all provide great transport networks to get where ever you need within a relatively short space of time. The public transport also supports reduced travel times to/from the city with 3 train stations locally that could be used (Queens Park, Cannington & Beckenham Stations).

Although I would personally avoid the Train Line South of the River at night time, the day time safety is very adequate. Night times I would rather pay for a taxi than have the risk of being troubled by a bunch of youths. I have travelled the Armadale line at night and have had many safe trips, but there is the occasion (especially is heading out to Northbridge or CBD) where trouble can occur. There are now more train guards, so good to stay in carriages with guards, but not always available. Problematic stations I would avoid at night include Burswood, Vic Park ,Carlisle, Oats St, Cannington, Queens Park, Cannington & Beckenham. Welshpool isnt too bad, as there is not many houses close by (mostly industrial) there is rarely trouble close by.

The suburb itself features many cul-de-sacs and safe, quiet streets, especially in the boundaries of Hamilton to South to Wharf, And Albany Highway East to Sevenoaks St.

Carousel provides a wealth of shopping including clothing, electrical, convenience, food shopping, markets, sporting, gaming, department stores, food court, phone & internet, news agencies, cinemas & much much more. With Carousel providing an abundance of shoppers daily, the local surrounds also include many Commercial Shopping that is attractive to all types of people. With things like Car, Boat, Caravan, Camping Stores, Kitchen, Bathroom, Renovation, Garden, Workout Gear, Tyre Fitting, Wreckers, Gas Plumbing & Electrical Stores, Gyms, Cannington LeisurePlex, Baby Stores, Pet Stores, Pool/Spa Shops and a massive abundance of others.

Pretty much, if there is a shop you need, it is bound to be found in or around Cannington within 5km.

Overall it is a great suburb, with great rental returns for investors, with many tenants wanting to live in a location close to the city with easy access, public transport and local favilities

"Not going to lie"

I don't know what some of these other reviewers are on about, Cannington is as good a suburb as any other. I have lived east of the railway line for over 3 years and have never had any trouble with crime or rude behaviour. Yes, there is SOME noise from aircrafts but it's really not as big an issue as everyone makes it out to be. Sure, you can hear them fly over a few times a day but it has never woken me out of sleep. 20 seconds of a plane passing over every few hours is nothing compared to the ease and comfort of owning a home in Cannington. It's not as if they're rattling the house!

Proximity to Carousel is wonderful and it's so easy to pop down to the shops or see a movie whenever the mood strikes you (and it's within opening hours, of course). There are also a TON of gyms within a 10 minute drive, furniture stores, pet stores, bedding stores...for shopping in Perth it really is a suburb with everything you need.

Cannington is a great suburb to be in, only 10-11kms from the City, with the access of Leach, Roe & Albany Hwy as well as the Train Line makes it one of the most accessible suburbs to be in. Property prices averaging around $450k (Oct 2013) mean that it is also super affordable. If you were this close to the city North of the River, you would be paying much more

"The Place To Be!"

I have lived in the neighbourhood for more than 5 years and have not had any complaints at all.

Love the area as it's close to public transports (buses & train). FYI - it is actually closer to take the train from Beckenham train station rather than Cannington station for some residents.

The suburb is relatively quiet and peaceful but still offers the luxury of living with the surrounding facilities available. Suitable for students, couples or young family with kids.

Carousel shopping centre is within walking distance and the Greyhound Race is also nearby where you can just pop outside and see the fireworks.

Obviously written by a real estate agent. Its noisy as hell in Cannington, and certainly not the place to raise a family with such a high crime rate.
