Reviews of Cherrybrook, NSW

"Alice in wonderland"

Lived there for for 5 years and always wanted to go back or want own a property in Cherrybrook one day.

If I could think of some bad things to say about Cherrybrook, it has to be the transport and traffic. The new line road is unbelievably busy all the time and not many public transports. If these 2 things can be resolved, I don’t mind spend my retirement life in Cherrybrook.

Looking for a home in Cherrybrook?

"Lived here for 10+ years and loved it"

I spent my whole teen years in Cherrybrook and I would not have had it any other way.

Going to school here, you feel a great sense of community. I always run into someone I know when going into the Shopping Village. Kids can openly play on the road, it is great for families with young children. As a young adult like myself there is not much to do here anymore, but Castle Hill is not far and now the new Metro makes going to the city a whole lot more convenient. Although public transport still isn't as great as other suburbs the Metro has been a major step-up. If I were to take a bus to the station, I'd either be too late or too early because the buses are so infrequent (peak hours are good though).

Depending on where you live the internet connection is horrible, I know people who rely on data and they are just a five minute walk from my place. Also you would have to expect your power/internet to go out every once in a while, its not too common but not surprising when it happens.

There are so many great attractions in Cherrybrook. First off, the bushwalk trail is such a luxury, it is beautiful and I feel so fortunate that there is one within walking distance. Cherrybrook is a very leafy suburb and you feel isolated when living here; aside from the diversity, I think this is the best part about Cherrybrook. Greenway Park is fantastic, it really adds to the community vibe here. If you go on walks often enough you run into familiar faces. It has a nice walking/bicycle trail, big fields, basketball courts, a skate park and tennis court, and much more. The Shopping Village has some great local restaurants, and produce stores - Martelli's is has some of the best ricotta cheeses!

However, Cherrybrook is becoming oriented for the upper-class. When my family and I first moved here it was a quaint suburb with not much going on, and the house prices were very reasonable. But with the growing success of the schools, the house prices have soared. The majority of houses in Cherrybrook are old and needs renovations, so you are really spending for the location. I can't honestly say the price is worth it if you have to break the bank to live here. I know a lot of families move to Cherrybrook just for the education and make a lot of financial sacrifices, and while the schools are great, the prices are too high for what you are getting (side note: Cherrybrook Tech is a great school for education, but the environment gets toxic during the HSC because the school places a lot of pressure on students to do well - I assume to keep up with the reputation). Personally, I don't think the prices are worth it. There are more affordable alternatives. Moreover, the Shopping Village has gotten more expensive, especially with the local restaurants.

Also there are a lot of robberies here, my neighbors got robbed, the house across the street got robbed, my friend down the road got robbed, and recently one of the local shops got robbed at knifepoint. It feels very safe to walk on the footpaths here but you have to lock your doors.

Even though I say a lot of cons, I honestly loved living here and if I had a choice, I would continue to do so. Unfortunately, my family and I are being priced out, ha! Many of my friends who also love Cherrybrook are now moving out too because it is just too expensive. But if you can afford it, then definitely go for it!

"Stigmatised area in the Hills"

I’ve lived in the Hills District my whole life and I wouldn’t recommend this area. The area has a stigma from most of the Hills residents who look down upon the area. I recall it was the pit of jokes while growing up and even my parents dodged a bullet buying in this area back 20 years ago. The metro was placed in the middle of nowhere, without being near any schools or shops, and is inconvenient for most commuters. You basically need a car to get there which almost defeats the purpose of the metro. You have to travel to get to most major locations, such as Castle Towers, Hornsby Westfield, etc. The suburb is basically in the middle of nowhere and I wouldn’t recommend it.

I shall add the poor literacy skills of residents in Cherrybrook who cannot read posts. Dont forget the eyesores of powerlines and radiation from power towers.

Great area, lots of luxury cars, big houses, very green.

City buses, short Metro trips to Macquarie University and Chatswood, simply amazing.

I shall add the median house price of 2 mil on the list, definitely not an area for the Westies.

And yes, there are power lines where electricity is carried and transmitted to every household here.

Cherrybrook also has locals who dont know how to write their own seperate reviews.

You're obviously a sour grape who can't afford that place. I have friends who own houses in Cherrybrook and are millionaires today.

"Great for families"

Leafy and quiet in the back streets with great facilities available including a fantastic shopping centre, schools, recreational facilities but around Cherrybrook Village Shopping Centre and along New Line Rd/ Boundary Road at peak hour the traffic can be quite problematic. It is a lovely place for families and people who don't need to access the city on a regular basis. Bus services are very infrequent out of peak times but very convenient during peak hours but with the Cherrybrook train station to come the accessibility to the Sydney CBD and Chatswood will be vastly improved.
A very popular area, high in demand for professionals and their families, you can feel very close to nature but then be very close to areas like Castle Hill, with its top shopping centre Castle Towers. For the kids there is a swimming pool, several full size playing fields, skate park, tennis and basketball courts, cricket nets, hundreds of bike trails and Cherrybrook Technology High/Cherrybrook Public/ John Purchase Schools with a Kindalin childcare at Cherrybrook Village.
Its great to be in walking distance of Cherrybrook Village!

Great for

  • Good bus service
  • Facilites for families
  • Train station coming
  • Leafy
  • Sporting fields

  • Schools

  • Distance from CBD
  • Lack of public transport options out of peak time

"The beauty of being 'a little bit unknown'"

So many people we meet ask "Cherrybrook, where is that". This to me is one of the beauties of the suburb. As a father of three, the suburb gives me everything I could ask for - school options, parks, accessibility, great people around us, a great church community, improved shopping facilities, ever improving transport for commuters. The bush land areas surrounding us are great also, with a heap of sporting facilities here or very close by. I love the rave about the suburb, but at the same time kind of want to keep it to just us locals ... !??!

Great for

  • Recreational Opportunity (Bush bike trails)
  • Leafy

"Nice - but peakhour traffic"

Cherrybrook is a nice area, with a great... but busy, shopping village... sometimes impossible to get into. The major negative I would is the traffic, especially peak hour, it's really bad. try to get to the edges of cherrybrook closer to P/hills rd. morning traffic on Newline rd, boundary rd is terrible, it can take 30mins to just get out to the M2. Having said that... great if you work west like Bella Vista.

"Paradise in the City"

200 meters from where I live in Cherrybrook you could easily be surrounded by trees, rapids, caves, abundant bird life - all without a single sign of "civilisation - no cars, homes, power lines, noice to be seen or heard.

Paradise. It is hard to believe that one could live in a city of 4million+ people, yet, at the location mentioned above, not a trace of humans.

Once back on street, the peak time traffic has become really busy. On average 45 minutes to Sydney CBD. Train (from Pennant Hills), car or direct bus service. Out of peak managed 32 minute run by car.

Lovely, inspiring place to have a home office. Very leafy, nice gardens, quiet, abundant bird life and within range of the airport, business centres and hi-tech companies. Ideal for professional/consulting services.

The new Cherrybrook Shopping Centre has become the envy of neighbouring suburbs and a very popular shopping/dining and social centre. Nice for young kids, but could become boring for teens and young adults.

Highly recommended for those who love nature, space, peace and need to get to the city once in a while, just to make it perfect.

"Fast growing Cherrybrook"

Cherrybrook is a large, fast growing suburb in the Hills District of Sydney. I can remember when my mother moved to Cherrybrook in the late 1980’s, there was still vacant land, small hobby farms and bushland. She is still living there, aged 88. Today there are wall to wall houses to support a population of over 18,000.

Cherrybrook originally was a market garden, dairy and orchard area. The land was first subdivided in 1959 and became the first project home village in Sydney. However, the most development has been since the 1980’s when more and more bushland was bulldozed to accommodate the growing population.

There is a reasonably large shopping centre with a supermarket, banks, specialty stores and cafes. The Cherrybrook Technology High School is the largest government high school in the state with a student enrolment of over 2,000.

Traffic is quite a problem in the area. The roads have not kept up with the population growth. During peak hours Old Northern and New Line Roads are bumper to bumper and very slow moving.

Despite this Cherrybrook is a very popular area of Sydney with many professionals living there in prestigious houses enjoying the lifestyle and facilities available. I know Mum loves the area and will have to be carried out screaming!

"Nice but can get pretty inconvenient"

Cherrybrook lies between Castle Hill and Pennant Hills and is about a forty minutes' drive to Sydney City. This suburb has a very calm and relaxing feel to it and is easily accessible via Pennant Hills Road. However, this place is only serviced by buses and there is no train station here.

The majority of people who live here are the elderly and young families, you can expect peaceful living and rarely would you see any fast cars zooming round the streets of Cherrybrook. There are shops that are close by and everybody takes good care of their front lawn to keep up with the gardening standards of the neighbourhood. The closest mall for residents here will be Castle Hill Towers.
