Reviews of Christie Downs, SA

"DO NOT LIVE HERE!!!!!!"

I lived there for 2 short Years and can honestly say as someone who has liven in the northern suburbs there whole life that that place is a dump. On my street (Finnian Road) there were brawls and fights almost every night and one 1 certain incident a man was stabbed 14 times to death! Hoons and unfriendly charcters roaming around the train station makes it almost impossible to seem the slightest bit safe. As someone raised in Elizabeth I cop a little bit of banter from mates but I can honestly say it was nothing like the south, sure there was the occasional fight and headline on the news but in the south every night there is hoons and bogans roaming my street. If you check the crime rates you’ll find everywhere around Noarlunga is on the up. I know people are gonna tell me but your so close to shops and the beach and transport, well you can’t polish a turd but you can roll it in glitter if you want to live in a suburb with public housing and crackie flats every street be my guess. If you look at the housing trust rates a whopping 26% are housing trust that’s more then Elizabeth and Salisbury. Down south Hackham West and Christie Downs are the worst but don’t get me started on Morphettvale I can honestly say I went to the emu hotel and there were not 1 but 2 Brawls. 1 in the pub and 1 on Faxmill road. That’s not to mention these 3 Tough guys apparently “Southside Rebels boys” catcalling teen girls and intimidating the public.

"Christie downs- an avarage slightly worse suburb that has fantastic potential"

Regaulary worried I'll be be broken into, I feel uneasy at times but take into mind I lived in the country for over 18 years so I miss the peace and tranquility of noone around I purely moved here for personal reasons. And within the 7 years of living here Ive never once been broken into (tuch wood)

With all that being said it is most of the times peaceful ☮️ what I'm saying is, it's by all means a very livable area and it is generally safe I wouldn't say all the streets are perfect but it has local parks a playground etc for living/ families etc, And the home is what you make it don't be discouraged by some run down homes in the area, alot of the housing trust homes in this area have been sold off privatly.

This area may very well increase value as south gets bigger witch it noticablely is fastly! Christie Downs has alot of potential, if it was tidied up a little to add more of a nicer scenary and maintained by the local council this would be a wonderful treat to the eye.

There are alot of housing trust homes in this area as stated earlier but keep in mind most have been sold off privatly but you do find patches aswell still under public housing with a high unemployment rate residing in this suburb
this suburb can at times attract rebels or general crime, and is by all means not the perfect suburb but really where is?
I wouldn't personally walk alone in this suburb alone at night but that's just me, sometimes this suburb can have uneasy people around, but when I have had to walk at night, I haven't had had much trouble at all, and most citizens are law obaying, families or a general down to earth mixed of helpful people, like in any suburb you get the great, ok and down right ugly.

It's an ok area(in my oppinion), as every where there are parts that are very quite and beautiful and there are also very tough suburbs, in this case Christie Downs does not differ.

Personally for me, after living here for 7 years and counting now, I am planning to move due to the regularly increasing crime, not perticulary always in Christie downs but in the surrounding suburbs.
I have noticed in my street it's slowly increasing more and more and having a wash off effect of bad behaviour or illigal activity into Christie downs but don't let that put you off, With all that being said Christie downs really is in a prime location.

You really can not ask for a better location of this suburb, you have a majoir shopping precinct a stone throw away or a bus or train ride away (collonades shopping centre) witch people often diss when it's actually a preety great mall sure you get the troubled youth at times but again this whole area has fantastic potential and everything really is at your feet for easy living, you have an OTR and other facilities like a baseball ovel, post office, food land, aged care all within walking distance and a train station witch (badly needs upgrading) witch I believe they are in the process of now. Recently you have all the modern luxurys such as uber eats delivering mc Donald's and a NBN not that should make you want to move here ny all means but for the suburbs it's not actually all bad!

Christie Downs is also litterly a five minute walk to the lovley Christie's beach and from Christie's beach you have lovley footpaths and bike paths to help you along the way that take you all the way to port Noarlunga, you are close enough at times you can actually smell the salt from the sea again that's my oppinion that or I'm going crazy.

Overall in my oppinion without being crusified on here, Christie downs is a bit of a lower income suburb and there definitely is higher income suburbs surrounding the area witch there is nothing wrong that by all means, but unfortunately at times due to this you can at times notice it to be rough but with a bit of the local government and enforcement, if they actually started to taking notice of this potentially wonderful suburb with a bit of fixing things and getting rid of community housing in the area or just a genreal sprucing up, this sunburb could become highly spoken of and evan worth more value.

My overall recomonations would be not not to move here but to really investigate this area and possibly a little further south, such as port Noarlunga, Seaford etc but if your on a tight budget and want a house that's a good size and and an ok suburb that has room for improvement it's most definitely worth your value and you could be comfortable here.

Southern Adelaide is a great district as a whole in my oppinion and you would regret not taking a close look at all the suburbs up South especially with the newish southern express way and newly southern suburbs in creations such as Seaford heights etc. The south is definitely growing and it's generally a nice area with everything a person would need somtimes south like north get bagged out but I fail to understand why it's all to do with personal preference.

this is just my honest and personal oppinion, yours may vary the only way to know for sure if Christie Downs is for you is if you stop reading peoples personal reviews online and have a look for yourself! 😉 Hopefully this was helpful enough if not we'll I tried haha!

"Surprisingly good place to live!"

Lived here for 5 years now after moving from the "more desirable" 8 km from the city suburbs. Love it. Neighbours are all working professionals, no gangsta types and its so quiet that over the weekend that you often have only birdsong to bother you. Check the police crime statistics and you will see the area is in the lowest average crime for adelaide regions. Sure there are social housing patches where there are more problems but even the Eastern suburbs have these hotspots. The area has great medical support, good shops and the schools around vary from government to private so you have a good choice. There are multiple parks and cycle paths to enjoy. To top it the expressway means you are only 10 minutes from Flinders so the most travel time is spent in the inner suburbs. I feel safer and more comfortable here than I did in any other area in Adelaide.
It is in the gateway to the Fleurieu where you have award winning eateries and wineries as well as being only a short ride to places like Victor Harbor and the hills. Great place to live

"Safe, quiet and located seconds from the best beaches in South Australia"

I've driven through Christie Downs a few times when we go away for a day at the southern beaches, and I have to say it doesn't deserve a rating that's worse than Elizabeth, sorry to say.

Christie Downs is a southern suburb located in the more outer parts of the Adelaide Metropolitan area. It is located a short 35 minutes from the CBD considering its in the outer areas of south Adelaide, and close to most of its amenities. A fairly large suburb, Christie Downs has everything close by. You have the Colonnades Shopping Centre literally just down the road at Christies Beach, a short 15-minute drive to one of the biggest and popular shopping centres in Adelaide, Westfield Marion at Oaklands Park and some other small goods around the area. You have some hospitals close as well, including the Noarlunga Public Hospital right around the corner at Noarlunga Centre or a 10-15 minute drive to the Flinders Medical Centre (Bedford Park). Eateries and nightlife is obviously not going to be as great but it is within a considerably short drive to the CBD and metro beaches. Public transport and train stations can be spotted around the area and with the new Seaford line, you're able to catch the train into the city easily as well as buses running frequently in and out from the city to Christie Downs. Schools are close to the area, such as Christie Downs Primary School in the area, Christies Beach High School at Christies Beach, Woodcroft High School at Morphett Vale, All Saints Catholic Prinary School at Seaford, Galilee Catholic School at Aldinga and Seaford Secondary College at Seaford all offering good education.

Christie Downs is a generally safe and quiet area. The neighbours are also pretty quiet most of the time as well and they are friendly as well. The area itself looks clean and green and there isn't much rubbish loitering around the area. I haven't heard of any gangs of teenagers that cause trouble to the area, but unfortunetly, it lies close proximity to a more dangerous area Hackham West. Most likely the only suburb south that is less desirable. Christie Downs do have Housing Trust homes, but these are slowly being replaced with fresh, new and modern homes

In conclusion, although I don't live around in or around Christie Downs, I certainly have visited the area many times beforehand so I have gotten used to the area a fair bit and know enough to review about the neighbours and cleanliness of the area. It has everything you need close by and even in close proximity to the CBD. It's also safe, clean and a pretty friendly area with many old homes being slowly being replaced with new homes. If I were to choose Christie Downs or Elizabeth, CHRISTIE DOWNS!

Yes, okay, I wrote this review when I didnt have enough knowledge about Christie Downs!

Thankyou for your honesty.

However, this does NOT imply that Christie Downs is just as bad if not worse than Elizabeth and Smithfield surrounds. Elizabeth and Smithfield are worse to a greater extent and in many more categories.

realityb

It would be interesting to get some crime stats from sapol to see a true comparison. If it was found that Christie's had a higher rate would you change your mind?

thesuburbreviewer25
thesuburbreviewer25

No, I wouldnt. Because Ive seen recent studies which always show the Elizabeth areas are always number one when it comes to all sorts of criminal activity.

"Great suburb with all facilities nearby"

Lived here for 13 years and counting. Great location close to Centro Colonnades, Noarlunga Hospital, Movies, Bowling, Swimming Centre, Bunnings!, Public Transport, Southern Expressway, The Beach/River...the list goes on.

Quiet area with not much traffic and great neighbours (OK, I don't speak with them all but I have no reason at all to dislike/hate them).

High speed internet is available for most premises thanks to NuSkope with fixed wireless broadband. Don't need to rely on ADSL or wait for NBN.

Well, I think your review secretly says it all - you strongly think that the southern suburbs are worst suburbs and the northern suburbs, including Salisbury, Davoren Park, Elizabeth, Salisbury North, etc, are much better. Are you seriously joking me right now?! Go live in all these areas, and there's more than that, and after, come back saying how much better it was. If you want to say things about a suburb that you obviously think are way better than the northern suburbs which are the worst and most unsafest, drug-related, gang-related areas of Adelaide, I suggest you go to the northern suburbs, open your eyes until they hurt, and you will completely change this review for GOOD. Don't riddle with areas that deserve more praise and credit because that's what they actually deserve, but instead, be wiser and see the northern suburbs for yourself. Christie Downs won't be so bad, after all. Enough said!

What are you talking about suburb viewer the North and South and West for that matter have shocking suburbs, yes the SOUTH have suburbs that are just as bad maybe worse get over it, do you live in this suburb is that why you are sensitive about this topic??

thesuburbreviewer25
thesuburbreviewer25

Wow, you are so salty because I gave an honest view about the north and how the south is so much better! You probably live at Elizabeth and feel offended for somebody talking honestly about your area BECAUSE YOU KNOW its very true.

Im not sensitive at all. Im not over-reacting like you are because of my views about the north and south. There is no suburb in the south that is as bad as the north. None. Of course there are bad areas south, but they are nothing comparable to how bad the north is. Not at all!

Get over it? Why should I get over it? I am over it. All I was doing is talking honestly about areas that you know are true. And also, stop attacking me on other posts and comments Ive made!

"Lived there for 10 years"

Pretty much grew up in this suburb, it inspired me to get the hell out as soon as I could. Housing Trust estate. Gangs of Teenage and Younger kids. I was looking for something positive here, all I can come up with is our house block was a resonable size. Yes there is parking (if you don't mind your car on bricks when you get back...if its there) Yes there is Public Transport (if you don't mind sharing a bus with someone that hasn't used a shower in a year) Yes there are parks (avoid the gangs and needles)

It's just a place to avoid at all cost

"Christies beach with transport and cheaper"

Christie Downs has all the beaches accessible easily to those at christies beach, however it is located within walking distance to the major regional hub of Noarlunga centre where all facilities are located.(Noarlunga hospital , wallis cinemas, the whole cento collonades shopping centre, ten pin bowling, the library and government service departments).Bus access is good or you could catch the train.Drop onto the express way to get to inner metro Adelaide or catch the train to Adelaide or other beachside suburbs such as seacliff or Brighton, and with the train extension south Seaford from 2014.With all this at Christie Downs and the boom occuring in christies beach, christie downs is bound to boom on the back of christies beach and is currently an excellent investment for those who like beachside living but can't afford the beachside price.
