"A small piece of paradise"
My children and I moved to Coominya just over 5 years ago and I would not go back; I previously lived in Ipswich. Initially I thought the travel (distance and time) to work (Ipswich) would be a concern but after travelling to Brisbane and around Ipswich in peak hour throughout my working life driving from Coominya is a piece of cake. 35 mins to Ipswich, beautiful Wivenhoe Dam to look at on the way through, no stress or traffic.... bliss. There are good schools and transport to and from them provided by a local bus company. Grocery shopping at Fernvale Woolies or Supa Iga in Lowood provides all that we need. I love the peace and quiet, I have excellent neighbours, they always wave hello and stop for a chat if you are in the mood. While you know they are closeby if you need them, they keep to themselves unless you ask for help. The local convenience store is really well stocked and open early til late. My daughter loves to ride so having the Brisbane Valley Rail Trail close by is very handy. If we want to splurge on take away, the Blue Teapot has it all, including a sit down Italian restaurant. They also have fuel and they are located in the main street next to the local Post Office. If you like pub meals, then you have to visit the Belevue Hotel, great service, good prices and huge meals. Wivenhoe, Somerset and Atkinson Dams for all close for fishing and water sports. Camping at Logans is great and only 5-6 mins away. There is a great community spirit in Coominya and as I said the kids and I wouldn't trade living here for the world.

Hi Alex, I actually moved to Lowood after Coominya and LOVED it!! It is a small country town, with the friendliness to go with it. I didn't live in the town but just outside and it was beautiful, private, and I wish I was still there. My property out there is on an acre but the commute to work became too great. I would rather live in Lowood, in the good parts now. Coominya is still very quiet but was becoming more troublesome. I never had an issue with any hooning, break ins, etc, in Lowood. I had great neighbours and the house was secluded and back off the road. If you can find the right property then Lowood would be my preference but Coominya is still lovely. The drive for groceries, especially with young kids can get tiresome from Coominya. I would never recommend the estates in Lowood. Fernvale estates are pretty much the same. My place will possibly go on the market at the end of the year (5 bed + study...I am not trying to sell it to you, lol) but I honestly never had one moment of drama.

Hi there, We are considering a home in Coominya and wanted to see if anyone could share any experiences on living or moving there? In particular, we are keen to learn about crime, neighbours, flooding, and general quality of life. Seems like a beautiful place but perhaps a little isolated? WE MOVED TO COOMINYA 25 YEARS AGO FROM THE FAST CITY LIFE WE HAD BEEN BORN TO. THE PEACE, SERENITY, FRIENDLINESS ALL GENERAL ATMOSPHERE OF THIS BEAUTIFUL LITTLE HISTORICAL TOWN MADE US REALIZE WE HAD FOUND THE ELUSIVE PLACE, OTHERS NEVER FIND, WHERE WE COULD HANG OUR HATS. NO PLACE COULD EVER ENTICE US AWAY. LOVE IT.

May I ask if you were effected by the 2011 Qld floods?

Please ignore the above comment. After my first comment didnt post I thought Id do a quick test before writing my short story again! My wife and I currently live in North Brisbane and have grown tired of the hustle and bustle of it all. The low cost of living, but more in particular, the beautiful scenery has attracted us to Coominya and surrounding areas. We were originally considering Lowood, but after reading the many awful reviews on here, especially those in regards to the presence of violence, drugs, hooning and break ins occurring more so in the new(ish?) estate we are now thinking otherwise. Some people even stated that moving there was one of the worst decisions theyd ever made and planned on leaving as soon as they possibly could. We recently became three with the addition of our son and have plans to grow our family more. Never has it felt so important to find somewhere safe and secure to live. My question to you is, if you dont mind answering, have you noticed any of the concerning behaviors mentioned above seeping out into your town, or has Coominya remained more or less untainted? And also, as someone who occasionally visits Lowood to do their grocery shopping, in your experience has it seemed as bad as what others are making it out to be?
