"Great place to bring up kids"

I was born in Coona our family moved away for a few years but then returned when i was in year 6 Primary school which I enjoyed a lot great teachers and very welcoming .The High school also was great very encouraging and supportive i loved going to school and back then the high school was 1 of the highest ranking school in the HSC in NSW not sure where it sits now ,but i'm sure it still ranks well.I had four jobs as a teenage and did so right through to having my children after a break from work and raising babies when ready quickly found a very rewarding job as a nurse at Cooninda Nursing home ,Hostel and Lodge Plenty of work if you want it and willing to have a go.My children went to the schools here in Coona and were very happy growing up here in Coona .The locals are all very friendly and always there if needed .We love the Warrambungles camping and bush walking .Although we don't live there now also love coming home for a visit .

Looking for a home in Coonabarabran?

"Small country town"

After the husband me and the kids moved to Coonabarabran 5 years ago we find it a really hard town to live in .yes some people are friendly but the truth is about coona is you just can't trust anybody people who you think are your friends will stab you in the back and that's the said truth. It a really dear place to live yes rentels are cheap but hard to come by a good home. Fuel cost are are expensive so is groceries. There is nothing to do in town if you want something to do you have to drive over 100 km to the next biggest town. Now getting a job in coona is really hard especially during draught the fact is in coona is not what you no it who you no. me and my husband had so much trouble getting a steady job in coona the fact is me and my husband feel if you wernt born in the shire or you don't have friends or family that have lived here there hole life you got no hope getting a good steady job a nice town to stay for a visit but not to live. My wife kids and I are moving soon .

Now to the pros it got a nice park on the river it is a pretty town just the preschool are wonderful and so is the public school teachers are really good but that about the only good thing about coona I'm sorry to be blunt but this is the truth about coona

Sad but true. Cannot get a doctor. They don't take "new"people.

"Where the mountains meet the stars"

Coonabarabran is an excellent town. My family moved back to Coonabarabran in 1967, over 40 years ago, when I was about 9 years old and we currently have four generations living here.
For a start, we have very good schools and that's from the perspective of being an ex-student, a parent of students and an employee, having worked in the office and library of the local High School and in the Special Education Department as well.
I've never been disappointed in the medical care given to my family and appreciate being able to see a doctor on request. I can also attend the casualty section of the hospital and be seen promptly.
I would argue that we also have the best aged care facility, 'Cooinda', with caring staff and the best maintained grounds anywhere.
Shops are stocked with all the necessities and it's wonderful to be home with the groceries within 2 minutes.
I walk to work and can easily go home for lunch or to take the washing off the line.
We have a scientific community involved with the wonders of astronomy using the largest telescope in the Southern Hemisphere.
Sports available include tennis, golf, bowls, rugby league, rugby union, netball, touch footy, boxing, swimming, horse riding, cycling, athletics, bushwalking and abseiling in the Warrumbungle Mountains or maybe a solid game of darts.
For supervised training, there are a number of exercise classes catering for differing levels of fitness including classes for new mums and water aerobics as well.
I'm not going to say anymore because you'll all be envious and packing your bags to move.

Rentals in Coonabarabran

"Loads of opportunity and a friendly town..."

I've been working for 6 months in this town and there is a lot of opportunity for all tradespeople, or anyone with skills. The property prices are low and a lot of movement in the real estate market. There has been a slight boom, but still affordable. Nice shops in the village including Woollies, Food Works, Eagle Boys, Subway and then a series of specialty shops, cafes, butchers, newsagency, bakery, pubs and clubs. This is a really great little town, well worth a look if you are thinking of getting out of the rat race. The mountains are stunning.

"Lovely and picturesque Town at the base of the Mountains"

Coonabarabran is a beautiful town, quite unique in a lot of ways to other towns in that it rests at the base of the Warrumbungle Mountain Range, has 2 highways crossing it, and the Castlereagh begins here. The back drop of the mountains is what makes Coonabarabran. It has a well equipped town ships with a good selection of shops and cafes, affordable housing, and nestled between main centres like Dubbo, Gunnedah, Tamworth and Narrabri. The roads are in good condition, and council is quite progressive. There are 2 schools, one has a high school, an early childhood centre, sports grounds, swimming pool and is a pretty low crime environment. Definitely worth a look. Great place to raise children or retire.

"Not such a great place"

Subject to gossiping, cliques, low labour market, terrible health services and little choice in educational facilities. It is definitely a town where it is not what you know but who you know.
