Looking for a home in Copacabana?

"Reminds me of the beach as a kid..."

Copa is an honest, down-to-earth Aussie coastal suburb, about 1.5hrs north of the Sydney CBD by car. The suburb is geographically very small, nestled between hills, a valley & lake at the back, & the ocean beach out front. The town itself is a mix of beautiful, multimillion dollar beach-side homes backing onto median suburban housing you're likely to find anywhere throughout the country.

Yep, it lacks guttering & the roads are generally rough-as-guts & yep, the few shops in town won't win any contemporary design awards, but therein lies the charm...it's a throwback to the sleepy beach-town of 30 years ago. A hassle-free & easy to reach place, well hidden from its more pretentious neighbouring suburbs on the Coast.

The place is a cosmopolitan mix of relaxed looking locals, surfers young & old, tourists from all places (I met a Russian family there on more than occasion), holiday-home owners & young families trying to soak up as much of the atmosphere as humanly possible come Monday morning.

Perfection would be achieved with a sub-1hour commute to/from Sydney.

Great for

  • 48hrs to total relaxation
  • Beach
  • Did I mention the beach?

"Mixed Blessings"

A lovely spot, but don't believe all the bling you read. Copacabana is the suburb that both time and the local council (intentionally) forgot. There is a new surf club but the beachfront viewing area is a disgrace and more suited to the third world. Don't look for any curb and guttering as there isn't any. Some roads have deep gullies to carry away the water and others are falling apart. The nature strips and many peoples properties are choked with weeds or look unkept and unloved. The lagoon is frequently emptied with an excavator because the local council refuses to inject only a few dollars to fix it.
The beach is wonderful but the population is a mix of private holiday homes, long term rentals and short term rentals. Quite a few of the short term rentals were often used for bucks type parties until 2 years ago when the local council was forced to act, having inflicted the neighbours for years. An ambience has returned to the area but people who do not come for quiet enjoyment should reconsider if Copacabana is for them as party central is now closely policed.
Many of the locals are laid back, but they are generally friendly people. The area has for some time needed capital to stop the dilapidation but little has been done to fix the area despite high rates born by home owners. There is a lovely new surf club, but it has already been vandalised. Many of the roads, other than the beachfront, are in poor condition and lack of investment in the area has occurred for decades because of an apathetic population which has little community spirit or pride.
Don't judge the area by its warts alone and by the abandonment from the council which happily takes everyone's rates and gives little back. There a few celebrities who call this town home for good reason. Tourists are always welcome when they bring their families and come to Copa for a HOLIDAY. Welcome. Enjoy your stay.

"Paradise a short drive from Sydney"

Copa is a beautiful spot and a perfect getaway from the hectic Sydney lifestyle. Very relaxed atmosphere. Great beach with little rock pool area suitable for the kiddies. Would recommend to anyone who wants to live in or visit an unpretentious but quality beachside suburb. There are a few restaurants and/or takeaways to choose from, including some great spots for Sunday brunch, shops that sell the essentials and a good bakery, The dog friendly area of the beach is great for those who enjoy a walk with mans best friend.

"Lifestyles of the rich and famous"

Copa as the locals call it is the life styles of the rich and famous (no names of course)It is the best
kept secret on the East Coast.Far better than its famous neighbors. With its new shops , especially the bar make for a great lifstyle. The best streets have fabulous ocean views and in years to come
will be the most sought after beach suburb anywhere.Only 1 hour from Sydneys North Shore make
it a great place for a weekend getaway or even commute to work. The best streets are Helen Drive,
Dele monte Place & Copa Drive. It has a new surf club and the atmosphere is fabulous.Dont believe
me, go and try this beach hideaway yourself but please, dont tell everyone.Almost forgot, the beach
is dog friendly and they have a ball.
