"Sleepy Hollow"

We moved to Corowa about 5 years ago. It's mainly a retirement town with an ageing population but a great community. More suited to young families and retirees - not much for teens/young people. Only one bus in and out of town, no local bus so you either walk or use own car. It was a big tourist town but council kicked out a lot of people from their caravan park and town has been dead since.
Great for boating, fishing, playing bowls, lots of wineries too. If you are over 50 you will love it!

"A great town with plenty to do"

I have moved here from a big city to start my family - I could not believe how nice everyone is and how cheap the cost of living is! Easy access to larger towns and plenty of open space for the kids and dogs to enjoy. Large blocks of land at very affordable prices. Its hard to go past living on the banks of the mighty Murray. So much peace and quiet and no traffic!! It is also a very popular spot for people to visit over summer due to the countless camping and recreation areas. Oh and plenty of great fishing spots too.

Great for

  • Mighty Murray
  • Relaxing
  • Water sports
  • Climate

Not great for

  • Nothing different to any other town in Australia in regards to teen issues - band together and have a voice and make a difference!

"Great Underrated Murray river town"

This small country town of around 5500 people is a really lovely place to live, Very friendly people here but like all places there is a small section of the population that could be better. I have been here since 2005 and yet to see anything bad, only heard gossip. Housing is cheap compared to other Murray towns and only 30 mins to Wangaratta and Yarrawonga, 40 min drive to Albury. Fantastic weather sunnier than Queensland. Many Doctors at the Hospital. High and Primary Schools in town with others only a bus ride way. House prices don't reflect the true value Corowa offers as a life style. Things can't stay cheap here for ever it's just to good. Buy a house and renovate it more money to be made. Target and MacDonald s have opened up in to town. They would do that if they didn't think Corowa wasn't going to grow. Very popular as a retirement town, It's more than that. Rutherglen wineries, Ski fields, Beechworth all close.

"Still the One!"

Don't worry about the negativity - every town in OZ has teen/acohol and crime issues (see Today Tonight 23/1/12). Get on with enjoying the great area and report the 'LAM" to the authorities - especially council to get things happening. Notice - property prices holding steady with good growth for well kept/house proud owners!

Still a great place!

"Nice Town with a Future"

Have been visiting corowa for years and enjoyed the river/golf/fishing/wineries on holidays. It has easy access to the the City of Albury which has everything Melbourne/Sydney has to offer without the traffic/crowds and a great climate. Great place as the 70's saying goes, 'to get out of the rat race' of Melbourne. Now with much improved medical facilities and affordable houses it is a gold place to live and can only get better.

Great for

  • Climate
  • Traffic/parking
  • Wide streets
  • Mighty Murray
  • Relaxing
  • Shops walking distance
  • Water sports

Not great for

  • Add hock planning of estates.
  • Teen Crime rate

"If youre not born and bred, best avoided!"

Great place to live when kids are little. Big problems with underage drinking and destructive, bored teenagers. Better as a retirement town then for families with older kids.

corowa is not alone with bored teenagers. corowa has lots to offer teenagers if they get out and about and it is just a few of them who choose to ignore the options of being entertained and like to behave in a L.A.M ("Look At Me') fashion making all teenages look like brats but most of corowas kids are great and in my experience it is the teenages of the city tourists who do most of the LAM behaviour.

"Corowa on the Mighty Murray!"

Corowa has it all - golf, relax by the river or enjoy a beer and a feed at a local eatery! Locals make you feel welcome and a mix of old and new properties to choose from. Great buying in the region. Close commute to Albury and plenty of work locally. Climate is great. Excellent all round!! More relaxing than Echuca!!
