Currajong, QLD 4812

One downside of my part of Currajong is the ever barking dogs. Day and night. I have owned my house in Hopkins Street for 6 weeks now, and can't wait for 12 months to be up so I can sell and move without attracting capital gains. Of course it's the owners, not the dogs, being incapable of training and controlling their animals. Selfish and inconsiderate of their neighbours and the suburb.

Having purchased a home in Currajong just under a decade ago I have found it difficult to leave as initially planned.
I originally purchased my home in Currajong because it's very central with access to 4 separate parks in under 1km (a dog park in Vincent is under 2km distance), is in close proximity to good schools - Currajong primary, Marian Catholic School and Pimlico High, and takes less than 10 minutes to get into the city, strand or Pallarenda beaches. You have a range of shopping options from Castletown and Domain through to the personalised Hammet st minimart and Otto's fresh food markets.
There are a number of older homes which appeal to those interested in art deco queenslanders/cottages although I've noticed a slow increase of newer homes being built on the few remaining blocks of land. Most blocks are circa 809m and a lot of families live here for generations making it easy to get that neighbourhood feeling that has dwindled and most other areas.
You will also find a very limited number of low density unit complexes and a handful of duplexes in the area. Most of the suburb appears to be owner occupiers with only 3 houses in my street section of 20 odd homes being rentals.
A recent sign of good times is also the increase in renovated projects. If you drive around Hammet st, Goodwin st, Corcoran and Gerard st you'll notice a number of homes being renovated and raised by younger families wanting a central area without the crime/units that surrounding suburbs are subject to.

Issues:
As some have noted there are parts of Currajong that flood, not a lot but I've seen around 10cm of water built up in some yards near the Hugh st/Palmerston st intersection with Gulliver. - This inherently brings on mosquitoes and possible water damage to a low set home or those built in without a tall enough slab. Albeit rain has been few and far between and I can count on one hand the times I've seen this area flood over the past decade.
Noise - There's an ambulance service on Hugh st and Maclachlan st which obviously becomes noisy on occasion. I'm around 100m from this building and rarely hear them outside of work hours.

I've lived here for 4 years in the same house and not once have had any problems with theft or crimes or nothing (touch wood)
It's a great little suburb with lots of families amounst it. Sure you get your occasional hoon or drunken person walking down the street but other then that I am always shocked when there is noise down my street it just peace full and quiet.
Mosquitoes are very bad in wet season though

I have lived in Currajong for 3 years now and we love it here. In fact, last year we had another baby and thought we didn't have enough space for our growing family in the house. Instead of moving, we love the place so much we are extending our property. It is so central to everything, close to town, a small drive out to Kirwan (where I work), close to the mater hospital, your choice of Castletown or the local shops on Hammet street for just about anything - butcher, fruit & veg, newsagency, convenience store, bakery around the corner. Beautiful parks and playgrounds and close to cricket fields. There is so much to love about the area. Yes, lots of older folk around who are respectful to neighbours as well as young families coming in. I love living here and would recommend it to anyone.

I have lived in Currajong for seven years now and thoroughly enjoy the area. The suburb has everything we need - a great set of shops, a lovely park, wide streets and lots of greenery. We have wonderful friendly, quiet neighbours. It is easy walking distance to Anderson Park Botanical Gardens, Pimlico High School, Pimlico Tafe Campus, Marian School and Currajong Primary. Within a five minute drive there is Castletown, Domain and Stockland Shopping Centres and it's only a ten minute drive in to the CBD. I love the 1930's/40's Queenslanders here and also the big blocks. I won't be moving from Currajong any time soon!

I have lived in Currajong for years and I have found it is one of the most conveniently placed suburbs in Townsville. It is so close to Stockland, Castletown and the City. Plenty of facilities like hospitals, parks and bus routes. The average block in Currajong is large and my neighbours are extremely friendly and quiet. I give it 5 thumbs up!!!

This area is absolutely fabulous. Close to shopping centres, hospital/medical facilities, neighbours are mostly older, so they are very friendly and the bus coverage is outstanding. There are so many parks nearby not to mention, primary and secondary schools as well as TAFE. Perfect for quiet couples, families and retirees.

This area of Palmerston Street has many drawbacks it is noisy with the nearby ambulance station providing regular disturbance. Traffic is heavy and drainage is extremely poor leading to flooding of many homes in the area during the wet season. Crime is relatively high making it difficult to utilise the Queenslander design in many homes as you cannnot leave the casement windows open without inviting a flash and grab theft. This is exacerbated by local police who now choose to blame you for a theft if you leave the window open rather than the culprit. Bats, rats and termites are other issues you need to consider even if renting.
