Reviews of Davison Street, Mitcham

"An excellent street to live every stage of your life"

Davison Street links Mitcham's 'green zone' with schools, transport and access to all that this suburb has to offer.

While clearly a great street to raise a family, Davison Street is happy to embrace people at any stage of their life. Providing some of the best access to a variety of sporting and nature parks, this area is enjoying a building renaissance. I am not talking about the McMansion redevlopments occurring in many suburbs, this is more of an upgrade of lovely family homes to embrace, rather than detract from the beautiful environment.

The birdlife and diverse canopy of trees provide excellent shade from the Summer heat and a true indication of how lucky Victorians are to enjoy four distinct seasons. The local council has recently undertaken a tree relanting program through Davison Street. Approximately 20 new trees have been planted in nature strips; some new and some replacing unhappy non-indigenous species. In the next 5 years, all local streets running through the nature park zones will show significant benefits from this program. The choice of local native trees will provide an even greener and spectacular streetscape.

With the local state primary school just one street away a kindergarten in walking distance, it is clear why many residents have children of a variety of ages. Many residents have come to Davison Street and stayed since it was created in the early to mid 1970s but others are more recent arrivals, providing a nice mix of kids playing cricket or footy in the top end of the street, Mum's with prams, the local dog walkers and many early retirees enjoying the fruits of their gardens. With distant views of the Dandenong Ranges and the very large Heatherdale Sporting oval down the bottom end of the street, this is a REAL green street. Behind the houses on one side of the street is another sporting field that leads to a nature walk along the local creek (with 2 individual Scout Halls on the walk) that leads to the local dog park. Dogs are a much loved member of many of the residents and the neighbourhood should be proud of their ability to control their pooches and pick up after their mess. Believe me, you notice how clean and green the street, park and school are!

Davison Street is only a couple of kilometres from Heatherdale AND Mitcham station and a bus runs from the end of the street (catch in on Purches Street) to the station and local shopping centres.

To conclude, I'll offer my simple story as an insight in to my credibility as a reviewer. I grew up in this neighbourhood. I was born in Munro Street and my parents loved the area so much that we moved to the next street - Davison Street. I moved out of home at the age of 18 and spent the next 15 years living in a variety of cities interstate and overseas. At the age of 33 I came home and lived in my old family home on and off for a year or 2. It's only now, after living in about 15 different homes in 15 different streets that I see what a gem this street is. It has community with privacy, activity with peace and a beautiful environment with all of the access and technology a modern household needs.

If a house in Davison Street comes on the market (which it rarely does) - come have a look!
