"Great suburb to live in, close to everything, quiet, family orientated"

Have lived in Delahey for 20 years and can say it’s a family orientated, quiet suburb. I have never had any dramas and find it’s in close proximity to everything, whether that be Delahey village with the new SUPA VALU IGA, watergardens shopping centre, brimbank and keilor downs shopping centres.

It’s a nice small pocket that not many people know of which is advantageous.

"Lovely little suburb , close to everything"

I’ve lived in Delahey for the last ten years and I love it. It has lovely parks, walking tracks and playgrounds, great local shops and major shopping centres 5 mins away, great primary and secondary schools and a number of childcare’s and kindergartens. It has a nice community centre and dog park too. It has buses and a train station close by. Good sized land and nice homes, not congested with units or dual occupancy’s like other suburbs. Good mix of people from a range of cultural backgrounds. I love living here and it’s value is increasing at a significant rate. It’s a safe and friendly place to live.

"Affordable friendly suburb close to everything"

Super friendly neighbours and people in the community. Close to Watergardens Shopping Centre, Caroline springs shopping centre and Keilor downs shopping centre. Only 19kms from the CBD. Good schools. A wonderful community, very safe and friendly.

"Great quiet suburb, friendly community"

We've been living here for 5 years and find it great. Great for nice walks and exercise routes. People out walking their dogs every evening, friendly neighbours. We have the vet nearby and some takeaway shops as well as being only a couple of suburbs away from Caroline Springs and Watergardens shopping center so it's convenient without being right in the centre of the business.

Great for

  • Affordable
  • Cheap house prices
  • Close to all facilities (if you drive)
  • Peace & Quiet

Not great for

  • Bit of a distance from the train station
  • No nightlife

"Delahey - Slipping under the radar as quiet, friendly and affordable suburban living."

We bought a house here after living in Point Cook for a year, after doing a bit of research around melbourne. We certainly have not been disappointed.

1. Public transport - there's buses that run through the suburb but it's not great proximity to any train station (closest is watergardens - about 25 minutes walk). But it's barely a 5 minute drive.
2. Shopping - plenty to choose from within driving distance. Watergardens is 5 minutes drive which has absolutely everything. If that doesn't satisfy (don't see how it couldn't - it's HUGE) , Keilor downs, Caroline Springs or Brimbank shopping centres are under 10 minutes drive away.
3. Schools - We aimed for Taylor's Hill PS as it's a little nicer than Mackellar PS but either would have worked. Can't really comment on High schools - copperfield college is there but our kids aren't at that age yet.
4. Cleanliness - Brimbank council is a bit pathetic in keeping the place clear of rubbish. Like anywhere in Melbourne it gets a bit windy which seems to spread it around. If you compare to the neighbouring Taylors Hill (Melton Council) the difference is quite stark. Delahey is a much older area though, so that could be part of the reason.
5. Neighbourhood - QUIET. Exactly what we wanted. Unfortunately it's a bit street-by-street when it comes to the amount of rentals but our street is mainly owner occupied and everyone's quite friendly and nice. We met our neighbours within days of moving in and have good relationships with both.
6. Nightlife - Not really any (doesn't bother me!). This suburb is mostly residential, nightlife is more St Albans way.
7. Internet is good, TPG has their own network through Kings Park.
8. Rents are pretty affordable here, but I don't think it is a skyrocketing suburb in terms of property prices. It is moving up with the rest of melbourne, but is known to be very family friendly so is highly sought after (rental wise).
9. Facilities - dribs and drabs around in Delahey itself. We got a place for our youngest at Delahey Kindy we've heard good things but are yet to experience it ourselves. Like anything, childcare is in demand so waiting lists are required, Unless you're prepared to travel a little, there's quite a few around here. Medical we go to Keilor Downs for, or Caroline Springs.
10. Parks/recreation etc - BIG park with two decent playgrounds in the middle of the suburb. Kids love it. Few tracks to ride bikes, plenty of open space for sports etc. A few sports clubs around which is good for the kids.
11. Safety - I feel relatively comfortable walking around at night, the suburb is quite quiet but not dark and dangerous. I even walk around the park sometimes with the dog but don't see any suspicious activity or people hanging around. Doesn't seem to be a lot of crime, but a few people are lead foots.
12. Demographics - Mostly families, some with young kids, others with teenage kids. Most are working families, haven't come across any feral activity (drugs/alcohol etc) at any property close to our place.

All up, great suburb. Could do with a freshen up or a bit more TLC from the council and it would be that little bit better. It's a little further out from Melbourne than other places but as close as some eastern suburbs twice the price! Definitely staying for the long term!
