Reviews of Dods Street, Brunswick

"A cautionary tale..."

Dods St combines all the worst elements of modern Brunswick.

Tacky urban infill has replaced the beautiful old brick factories that this street was once known for. Medium density, low cost housing dominates, with many people not even knowing their own neighbors.

The most notable human construction of the street is the carpark, which accounts for around 20% of the street frontage, is a magnet for anti-social behavior on weekends, and the street probably has the highest per capita rate of motorbike ownership in the postcode.

Not great for

  • Antisocial behaviour
  • Lack of lighting
  • Loud

you obviously don't live in Dods St, maybe you have it confused with somewhere else! Yes there is a council carpark at the end but have never in 13+ years experience antisocial behaviour in it. This street has one old factory - old Holeproof factory that is anything but low cost housing - and one 4 story high newly built set of apartments closest to the carpark and one 2 storey set of units at the other end. The remainder of the street is single fronted family homes. As for motorcycles...... I think I know of maybe 2 or 3 in the street. It is approx 50m away from Sydney Rd yet despite this it is one of the quietest streets I have lived in

"Brunswick has no greater location"

The quiet of a suburban cul-de-sac only a few seconds from the suburb's busiest corner. Sydney Rd and Barkly Square are conveniently at your doorstep and Jewell station is the exact distance of one cigarette away. Parking is not a problem - the Edward St carpark backs onto Dods.

Great for

  • Close to everything
  • Quiet

"Quiet street close to the heart of the action."

Small quiet street VERY close to Sydney Road and only a five minutes walk to Lygon Street and Barkley Square. It is right in the heart of the action without the noise and hustle and bustle. We are spoiled for choice when it comes to deciding which place we will walk to for something to eat or drink as it is so close the best Brunswick has to offer. We've lived here for just over 10 months now and are finding it difficult to get out of Brunswick or hop in the car because we are so conveniently located to everything we want and need.

Great for

  • Close to everything
  • Quiet

"The Party Animal Street..."

Ok if you dont mind medium density living and you want to be IN the action of Brunswick , then this street is for you. Consitsing mostly of Warehouse apartments (care of the ex-sock factory 1-3 Dods). The street is dead end , where you can walk to Sydney Road! I wouldnt mind living here. It would make me feel very New York.

Positives:

Sydney Road at your very finger tips.
All amenities.
Party Lifestyle.

Negatives:

Parking...or lack there of. (Be careful of the paid parking across the road for visitors, people do get tickets often)
Not enough of it.
