Reviews of Doncaster East, VIC

"Sum of all parts in good"

We have moved to East Doncaster few years back close to Devon Plaza. The location is unbeatable with access to 3 shopping complexes and walkable public transport on both Blackburn Road and Doncaster Road.

Plenty or recreation with trails, sports and outstanding restaurants and cafes that keep on getting better every month
(likes of Ms. Jackson & Zero95) Like most of East Doncaster, both primary and secondary public schools rank very highly on state rankings. We have seen number of families moving for better schools which, unfortunately impacts affordability and lack of rentals. That being said, East Doncaster is a complete suburb to raise a family.

"A hidden gem that makes my family incredibly happy."

Doncaster East: A hidden gem that makes my family incredibly happy. The leafy greens and tidy roads create such a peaceful vibe. The parks are perfect for picnics and outdoor fun.

The schools here are top-notch, which was a big deal for us. And let me tell you, the neighbors are so friendly and welcoming. It feels like we've found our tribe.

Food options? Oh, we've got plenty! From Jackson Court to Devon Plaza, Tunstall Square, The Pine, and Westfield Doncaster, you'll never run out of tasty choices.

And let's talk about the council. They're doing an awesome job! The parks are always well-maintained, and the roads are kept clean. It's clear they care about making this place great for everyone.

Doncaster East is our little slice of paradise. With its natural beauty, great schools, friendly community, and awesome council management, it's everything we could ask for. If you're after a laid-back lifestyle with a strong sense of community, Doncaster East is where it's at!

"A lot to do in the area"

Close to the suburb, there is a lot to do for outdoors for sports and recreation. I also enjoy the farmers market and fun activities like tree plantation activities organised by the local council that kids liked. The public schools are ranked better relative to the rest of Melbourne.

"Council is a problem"

The bin is the smallest of all other suburbs, need to pay extra for slightly bigger one. the contractor often can’t empty it properly. Don’t complaint, they will remember your address and try to make trouble of you. library story time is not as good as Glen Eira suburb, you can tell from scanty parents and babies. The vibe in this suburb is unpleasant, neighbors and community are not friendly, traffic is a problem, without a car, you can’t go anywhere.

"Great schools and green. Great for being outdoors"

For the families that love being outdoors or lost somewhere in trails, Doncaster East is a great suburb. You don't have to go too far from the city to experience that, so the daily commute to CBD is not that difficult. There are great publis schools that ticks most boxes for families with kids.

"Fantastic suburb for raising a family"

We moved to Doncaster East from Balwyn North about four years ago to give a bit more space to our growing family without having to move too far from our friends in the Balwyn area. Although Balwyn is great, we don’t miss it that much now. Doncaster East better options for dining and shopping and it feels more self-contained. The area is pretty green with access to numerous trails and parklands which is a plus for a growing family. Almost entire Doncaster East enjoys a good school zoning for both primary and secondary which is rare to find. All of this so close to the CBD. Our kids are happy having moved here as they spend more time outdoors and can visit their old friends as well.

We have lived in this suburb for more than a decade and have seen our kids grow from using small tricycles to riding a dirt bike…playing basketball and cricket at Leeds street, running through the trails, attending and hosting birthday parties at Ruffey reserve, the memories are vivid.

The suburb offered everything that the kids needed including the schools. Area has some positive seen changes such as Westfield redevelopment and cool cafe’s opening in Jackson Court and Tunstall square that are perfect for weekend brunch. No - we aren’t going to leave this place soon

"Green peaceful and convenient"

Doncaster East is a leafy suburb that enjoys close proximity to the city through M3 while not being too far from the hills. A perfect mix of country and city, that close to the CBD!!!

We love the access to the Koonung creek, Mullum mullum creek and Warrandyte hills. Westfield Doncaster is close by. A perfect suburb for a growing family that loves being outdoors. Good public schools make the suburb very attractive for the families.

There are several great cafe’s and neighbourly feel. While there are no trains, the bus service is excellent and provides last mile connectivity. The prices are now going crazy which is a bit sad.

"Doncaster east is quite expensive now!!"

Just recently bought a townhouse in Doncaster East and were loving it!!!
I cant believe its quite expensive now. Nothing is under $1mil for a 3 bedroom townhouse
anymore.
Easy access to anywhere you want. Driving around our area next to the Pines, it has lots of apartments and new townhouses building up in our area.
People around here are nice and friendly people, everyone looks happy and fit .
We love Doncaster East and its the best suburb to live in if you are young family with kids.
Its safe and its a nice leafy pocket next to congested Doncaster and Box Hill.
It has lots of parks and little village like Templestowe village and the Pines.
Also my kids can go to Our Lady of the Pines for just 2 mins drive.
We will live here until we retire!

"Excellent community feel and affordable"

Doncaster East remains affordable and still offers homes with sizeable back yards, as well as spacious apartment living, over some of the smaller floorplans being built in neighbouring suburbs such as Doncaster, Box Hill etc. The area offers excellent bus services, as well as easy access to the Eastern freeway. Reputable schools, great area for families.

"An Overrated, Traffic Congested Area Where Few of the Neighbours are Friendly"

I lived in Doncaster East for 13 years, and watched it change over the years from a quiet, relatively peaceful suburb to an overrated, traffic congested area full of unfriendly neighbours and crime issues. There were 4 robberies in our street in a little less than 15 months - including our home, which was robbed during the day between after school and evening rush hour. Neighbours were home directly opposite but no one "saw or heard" anything despite robbers making off with a literal truckload of our items, computers, jewellery and electrical equipment.

Despite some people's ratings and what real estate agents will tell you, research will reveal that Doncaster East has one of the highest property crime rates in suburban Melbourne. Interestingly, when we first moved there 13 years ago, a young couple who lived next door told us they were moving as they had found the area and the neighbours in the street to be "pretty unfriendly". I can confirm this to be our experience too, as people keep to themselves and dislike any sort of friendly interaction unless your children happen to be on their children's football team, then they will pull out all the stops.
The other issue was the way people drive so aggressively - the lack of transport, especially rail options leads to terrible traffic congestion and the daily commute is full of almost daily accidents and road rage incidents. Not a week went by in the last few years we lived there without experiencing (or seeing) road rage incidents and on one occasion, my young son was almost run over by a speeding Mercedes driver which hurtled around the corner whilst he was crossing a road on his way home from school. Children or young people are rarely seen walking or playing outside as the parents in the area drive them everywhere (and drivers in the area can't be trusted due to their road aggression).

My family has now sold and moved to another area of Melbourne and I was astonished at how friendly and welcoming the neighbours and all the local people were. We are twenty minutes from a large well known shopping complex and have a train station 5 minutes from our home. Best of all, I can see the beautiful Yarra Valley unfolding from my dining room windows and I enjoy leafy parks and green spaces full of people of all ages, unlike in Doncaster East where they were mainly for show apart from the odd person walking their dog of an evening.
Do yourself and your family a favour and avoid buying here.

"A City For All Seasons"

Doncaster East has it all. A cosmopolitan dining and shopping precinct, quality schools, retirement villages and options, Eastern Freeway access and family-friendly streets. Tunstall Square immediately comes to mind when thinking about dinner plans, a special gift for a friend or a new look. The Milgate Park Estate, off Anderson's Creek Rd, is a particular area that is favoured for its many parks and proximity to Milgate Primary School and Our Lady of the Pines Primary School. Bordering Donvale, Doncaster East is well serviced by buses leaving from most main roads and busy streets - they'll take you to the nearby shopping mecca, Westfield Doncaster, schools and industry hubs at the afore mentioned shopping districts.
