"A Healthy Lifestyle"

Nestled on the banks of the Ross River you can enjoy outdoor activities at your doorstep. There are many pathways for walking and bike riding along the river and throughout the suburb, numerous parks to take the kids for a swing or through a ball. The JCU Rowing club is located at the community centre on Riverside Bvd, they hold a learn to row course to get you started.

Great for

  • Conveniently located close to The Stockland Shopping Centre and the new Myer department store.

"Living the life in Douglas.."

The suburb of Douglas is popular among employees of the Townsville Hospital and Lavarack Barracks, and staff and students of James Cook University. Nestled along the south bank of the Ross River, this suburb is very attractive with a magnificent walking/bike track meandering through much of the suburb and along the river front.

The $30 million dollar Riverway project, located on the magnificent Ross River frontage is fast becoming one of the most exciting destinations the region has to offer, combining residential, commercial, cultural, sports and leisure facilities.
An IGA supermarket supplies all grocery needs, with a Tavern and fabulous coffee shop overlooking the weir and stunning Ross River.

"A Small Pocket of Peace"

This part of Douglas has been somewhat forgotten since the Expansion with 'Riverside Gardens' area. I'm a resident in this small section and honestly have no complaints. With Tennant Street being the only entry to this section of the suburb, there is no traffic just passing through. It is a very pet friendly suburb and makes the residents feel very secure. There is a medium sized park, walking distance from every property. Peace and quiet is perfect to describe this area of Douglas.

Opposite the Palmetum Gardens and a short walk to neighborhood park lands and recreational areas, including a dog park allowing off-leash exercise for our furry family members. It's a short drive to Stockland Shopping Centre and walking distance to James Cook University, which is currently having a new Woolworths built.

As a resident in this area, I can safely say I enjoy living in the area, I am so close to everything and I don't even feel like I live in such a large city. Douglas is close to schools, shops, transport and parks. It's the type of suburb where you can wave to your neighbour three streets down, they don't know you, you don't know them, but they still wave back, everyone is very friendly.

I would definitely recommend this part of Douglas to anyone looking for a home either for themselves or as an investment.

"Be very careful"

Happy to have moved out of Douglas or Riverside Gardens as the suburb is also known as. We were broken into constantly. Had our personal belongings stole from us on boxing day night while we slept. Then numerous attempts to break in after that including our neigbours who were broken into a week after us. They took whatever they could get including my partners work boots that he would leave by the front door, this happened twice within a month. Be very cautious while living in this suburb, while the people who live there are all hard working citizens it is the young youth that cross the pedestrian bridges over the river that come and cause havoc and because they are youth they get a slap on the wrists and before you know it they are back at it again. The police have even told us that they are powerless when it comes to these kids. Moving out of the suburb has been the best thing we have done.
