Reviews of Drummoyne, NSW

"Convenient & friendly; but Lyons rd hot & noisy - needs more trees"

Lived in Drummoyne for 3.5 years now; we love being close to the city (buses are fine); lovey sense of community, nice walks and good schools. And Harris farm is great! Lyons road though is stressful - I simply don’t walk there with the pram - and a major reason for this is the lack of trees. So living in drummoyne is still enjoyable but I avoid Lyons road. In summer it’s a urban heat island. And sadly many people in some parts of drummoyne like to concrete everything and chop down trees so they can pave the earth over and make it ‘neat’. It’s an environmental tragedy.

Looking for a home in Drummoyne?

"Beautiful and convenient, but super noisy"

I lived in Drummoyne for many years and I can see how much it has changed and developed since then. So many new shops and flats have popped up, certainly adding to the charm of the neighborhood. Even Birkenhead Point has been revamped. A great little mall!

Public transport/access to the city and Parramatta is super easy, not a bad word to say. Neighbors friendly, never any issues with crime.

The negatives for me are NOISE levels and constant traffic. If you are sensitive to noise, you will not like Drummoyne. Victoria Road traffic emits constant high decibels, and if you add the constant plane noises to the mix, it just becomes unbearable. I would avoid: Victoria Road, Lyons Road, Marlborough Street, Formosa Street and Henley Marine Drive.

Overall, East Drummoyne is the best part. Lyons Road is more or less constantly congested. You would sit on the bus for ages before it even gets to Victoria Road.

"Great Views & Life - Snobby people around though"

After living here I actually do love Drummoyne. The area itself is great, with good amount of parks and its almost self isolated so even though its near the city it isn't busy even in the mornings and evenings at "peak hour". Only quarrel i have is a lot of stuck up pretentious people live here as it is a "cool" suburb name to live in , although there are many nice people to be found it seems to have these types walking around from time to time.

"The perfect balance, the perfect home"

Drummoyne is surrounded by water on 3 sides, has multiple family friendly parks and playgrounds, is home to the famous Bay Run and Birkenhead Point, and is also only minutes from the city by either bus or ferry/rivercat.
The dining and cafe culture has improved in recent years with many more notable and experienced operators coming to the area.

"Great local area close to the city"

What a gem - surrounded by Sydney Harbour and lush green parks, Drummoyne is an inner west oasis - just 20 mins from the centre of Sydney.
Easy to catch a bus into town or jump on the ferry for a stunning trip to Circular Quay via Cockatoo island.
There are great places to eat and shop including Birkenhead Point, beautiful marinas and waterfront dining and fantastic playgrounds for the kids.
Locals are warm and friendly and development in the area is bringing new retail and excitement to the community.
I've lived in Drummoyne for over a decade and wouldn't move anywhere else...shhhh don't tell everyone!

"Amazing place to live! Great for families/Professionals and the Stylish"

I've lived in Drummoyne since 2004. It's a great community, close to parks with amazing view of the water, great for fitness with the Bay Run just around the corner, lots of close by Kids activities and great places to eat day and night.
Getting in and out of the Sydney CBD is so easy, Uber ride is approx $20, I highly recommend the suburb to all singles, couples and families, Drummoyne is full of professionals as it's very central to everything you need without living in your neighbours backyard due to the decent block sizes.
Drummoyne is also easy to navigate and get to Hunters Hill, Woolwich, Five Dock, Russel Lea, Darling Harbour, Lane Cove, and North Sydney, handy for families with Great Primary and High Schools (Catholic, Private and Public).

"Quiet n green suburb"

I have been living in Drummoyne for 1 yr so far.
Living on Lyons rd is not easy because of the traffic that happens 7 days a week. Mon to Fri only during peak hours and all times on the weekends. So accessing my building to park my car isnt easy. Is possible try to avoid Lyons rd by using the back roads that take you to birkhead point, five dock, victoria rd.
Victoria rd is another heavy traffic st and anzac bridge that takes you to the city is a nightmare during peak hours.
My unit faces drummoyne oval, so i dont have problem with noise from the street.
Airplane noise has reduced since the behining of 2018. Last summer there were so many airplanes cruising on our heads that watching tv at night was only possible with all windows and doors closed. This winter isnt bad. Not sure if because the low season in Sydney or because airplanes are on another route. I can tolerate better the airplane noise than victoria rd n lyons rd traffic.
Regards the small streets in Drummoyne, its a peaceful area. Drummoyne oval and bay run offer great views, parks, footpath to running.
Few options of cafes, restaurants n pubs in the area, what makes a quiet suburb. Good for resting on your days off and have a good night of sleep.
There are 10 bus route to the city and central, but no train. Around 30min by bus to martin place/circular quay. Or 10min driving to town hall when no traffic.
Groceries shopping available in iga, harris harm, aldi n coles.
Overall its a great area to live if you are looking for quiet, green and bay water area. Not so good if you need to drive long distances, eating out and night life.

"Living and working in Drummoyne"

I've been working in the Drummoyne area for just over 6 years and finally made the move here from Balmain about 8 months ago. Best move I've made thus far! The locals are generally friendly and considerate, it's always nice to have a chat to the local business owners, excellent coffee available at multiple cafes so you can't go wrong! Definitely see myself planting some roots here. No kids of my own, but I can see how it would be a great place to raise a family with fantastic schools, parks and recreation facilities within a small radius. 10 out of 10 for me!

"A lovely suburb by the bay within close proximity to the CBD and other suburbs north, south and west"

Absolutely adore living in Drummoyne. Have been living here for over 15 years and am quite a devotee. Love the vicinity to the city, Balmain, Chatswood and close to all amenities. I walk the Bay run most days at all sorts of hours sometimes late into the night and am fortunate to live in such a wonderful safe suburb. It has good shopping via Birkenhead point and good public transport on Victoria Rd. Best of all it has wonderful water views..if you can afford them. There is much to enjoy about this suburb.

"Drummoyne - A nice village nestled between two bays."

Drummoyne is surrounded by water and the perfect place to live. Right near the bay run, great restuarants, local shops and a village atmosphere. I have always felt safe and secure living here. Its great for families with plenty of parks and open spaces to run around. Despite the Peak travel times (inbound only I find) on the buses, at least its a nice place to come home too.. (It could be worse, ie. being sardined in a train) Its lovely to head down to the bay run on the weekends and take a walk and take in a meal in the evening nearby. All an easy walk away.

"Fine inner west suburb"

Fine place to live - safe, clean, green and the five dock bay of course. Plenty to do outdoors - for kids and families alike.
Buses run through most parts of drummoyne, but victoria road towards the city is more like a parking lot. a couple of ferry wharfs for those who prefer water transport. Lots of parks, shops, cafes and eateries
Recently, been an increases in traffic and the inner streets of drummoyne, especially close to the bay, on a warm, bright summer day, with their boats , does tend to clog up streets a bit.
Overall, great place to be . Rising water levels in the bay ( which did start to flow on to the streets during one of the wet stormy days), may be a disturbing factor.

"Surrounded by water"

We moved to Drummoyne in 1999 from Five Dock and absolutely love living here. To get to the city is a short bus or ferry ride or I can drive into the city in 10 minutes when peak hour has finished. We almost live on an island linked by the Gladesville and iron Cove bridges with water at each end of the street and more parks than you can walk to in a day.

We go to G Fitness 4 days a week and the Drummoyne Sailing Club offers the best views in Sydney on a Friday night watching the twilight races from the deck with a beer and a glass of wine.

I can do a u-turn in front of my house and can always get parking. There is no better suburb to live in, in Sydney.

"Excellent suburb - we love living here"

We have lived in Drummoyne for about 10 years. The suburb is very safe, quiet (except for some plane noise!) and we know most of our neighbours. My car insurance premium reduced as a result of moving to Drummoyne (from Five Dock). Public transport is excellent and I use the ferry every day to work in Darling Harbour much to the envy of my colleagues. How many people can say they travel into work in about 10 minutes, and what a way to travel! Our house has steadily gone up in value so investment wise that is good news.

Close by is the recently revamped Birkenhead Point and we regularly eat on the waterfront deck of the Drummoyne Sailing Club.

What do I say to people thinking of moving to Drummoyne? Do it.

"Well Located Suburb - Perfect for Families and Professional Couples"

We have recently moved into Drummoyne and just love it! As a young professional couple with one child it is perfectly located on public transport close to the city (7km away) and local services like child caret. Our street has a real family feel and everyone knows each other. The street held an impromptu Christmas street party last week which was fun. Within a five minute walk of most streets in Drummoyne you have a dining choice of either Moroccan, Vietnamese, Lebanese, Italian, Thai, Indian and Japanese and a number of excellent pubs. Two yacht clubs with brilliant views over the harbour and some great shopping at the recently renovated Birkenhead Factory Outlet top it off. All in all, a well located suburb perfect for families and professional couples.

"Beautiful suburb and close to the city"

Drummoyne is a beautiful inner city suburb in Sydney. There are both houses and residential units around this area. Roads around here are not as narrow as those that you find in Paddington and houses here are neat and tidy with several small parks around the area.

Drummoyne is famous for Birkenhead Point Shopping Centre. It is a factory outlet that caters to the bargain hunters in Sydney. The view in front of the mall is spectacular and it would be a great to be able to own one of the boats along the marina. Unfortunately, Drummoyne is only serviced by public buses and this can be a nightmare during peak hours as Victoria Road gets clogged up in traffic.

"Sydney Harbour Suburb"

Drummoyne is an older working class suburb of Sydney that from the 1980s has seen a resurgence in popularity due to its close proximity to the city. Driving to town however is a nightmare along Victoria Road, which is often described as a ‘carpark’ in peak times. As this road runs through the middle of Drummoyne, it passes home-owner type shops, the RSL Club, real estate agents, a pub and pharmacy. The homes on the northern side of the suburb hug the Sydney Harbour water front, and many of these are in apartment buildings. Very popular at weekends, Birkenhead Point Shopping Centre is also in Drummoyne, near the Iron Cove Bridge.
