Looking for a home in Edmonton?

"Hmm no."

I lived here for quite a number of years and it was a relief to get out, I moved to Elliot Springs just south of Townsville and the lifestyle here is much better then I found in Cairns. The people are nicer and I feel happier. I wouldn't live in Cairns or Edmonton again.

"Good Suburb if you want to live in Cairns"

We moved here from the Gold Coast. Edmonton is a good place to be with the mountain back drop. The new Coles is fabulous and not crowded like other places. the medical centre completed in May is fantastic and the doctors are really good. There is new business coming to Edmonton. The new cyclone evacuation centre is currently being built in Edmonton, and looks near completion. Easy access to highway. The only thing to advise for people migrating to Cairns in general is to remember the climate and be prepared for summer. Lots of families have dogs in this area. I have not experienced any crime and feel quite safe living here.

Great for

  • Close to the CBD
  • Great Community
  • Growing and more facilities coming online

Not great for

  • More dining out venues needed

"A growing suburb with more facilities coming"

Edmonton is growing fast. 2 excellent shopping centers, 2 pubs and a a great community club at Fullers Sports Club (Brothers and the manager Brett have done wonders with what they have achieved with the renos.). Lots of sporting facilities and more coming. The 2nd hospital for Cairns will be built on Mills Road. The land has already been secured by the Govt. There are 2 GP clinics. The GP Super Clinic is currently being built and will be completed in May. Sugerworld and the water slides have been revamped and are now open and very popular. Good schools both state and private and ample childcare. 15 to 20 mins to Cairns CBD. My wife and I are in our 50s and have lived in Edmonton for over 3 years. Lovely view of the mountains are a lot better than the beaches.

"Good place to live"

Edmonton is 14kms south of the Cairns City Centre. Edmonton is serviced by two shopping centres at Piccones Supa IGA and Coles Sugarworld. It also has a public pool, a public primary school with two others located (nearby) in the next suburbs. Edmonton is also home to Sugarworld Gardens and Waterslides however the latter is currenly closed until further notice. Edmonton has two hotels, the Historic Hambledon Hotel and opposite the Grafton Hotel. The Fuller Park Community Club is also open for Drinks, Meals, Pokies and often have major promotions as well as having a sizable lawn bowling fraternity. For sports buffs, local junior soccer is available at Centenary Comets. Rugby League both Senior and Junior with the Edmonton Storm RLC. For the AFL followers, the South Cairns Cutters AFC have both Senior and Junior Clubs and are located at Fretwell Park, Robert Rd in Bentley Park (next suburb north). The Cutters also have a club which is open 7 days. So basically Edmonton has everything on offer. I have had no problems thus far and think it is quite handy to everything and far enough away for a bit of peace and quiet. If you enjoy looking at the mountains from your backyard, this is the place to be.

Rentals in Edmonton

"Cheap rent, great neighbors!"

I lived here for a year with my wife and infant. Cairns is only 15-20 minutes drive, depending on traffic. Everything is close by, we enjoyed our stay.
