"A water source, covered by a pine forest."

Gnangara is listed as a suburb of Perth, however it has a very small population (1100 in a recent census) and is largely semi rural. Until recent years Gnangara was situated at the far reaches of the Perth suburban area. Of course, it still sits there but Perth has sprawled such that Ellenbrook and Landsdale have closed the gaps. Checking the google map on the side shows mostly green and few roads. Gnangara itself is a large area, and has mostly large acreages, used by people to run a few animals, park their many trucks or their business - there is still the occassional plant nursery in the area or livestock supply business.Other people use the pine forests for activitys like walking, paintballing, dirt road racing or dumping stolen cars.

Most people know Gnangara, not as a suburb, but as the pine forests/plantations that have been there for decades. Below the ground, there is the Gnangara Mound, a vital water supply that is depleted by the pine trees and ongoing development. In recent years many of the pine trees have been removed to create suburban dwellings such as the suburb of Ellenbrook. Gnangara itself is not really considered a livable suburb, rather something you go past on Gnangara Rd. There are no schools, shops, doctors or any other amenities in Gnangara itself. Those things are in suburbs like Ellenbrook and surrounds. I used to live nearby as a youg adult and seeing the changes over the years has really demonstrated the urban sprawl in Perth.

Great for

  • Not really a residential suburb, so no pros or cons.
