Reviews of Helensburgh, NSW

"Love this quiet little town"

I have lived here for many years its great for young family and children great parks nice and close to the beach very friendly people. Needs footpaths and kerb and gutters the council seem to miss this place when it comes to using funds . The main park upgrade is disappointing but many other places. It is hard for childcare as it's limited . Needs some more restaurants but the ones here are beautiful. More police presence is needed. I'm happy here with my family over all a beautiful country town with lots of kind people here .

Moved here from the Sutherland shire 7 months ago and can't wait to get out!! Nothing here sorry,No one wants to deliver here,No Ubers,No Uber eats, one would expect with the average price of a 3 bedroom house is 1.3 million there would be more infrastructure here sadly not,A dismal town.

"Backward Town"

It is a lovely place as long as you look white. Everyone seems friendly in the surface but it is very hard to make new friends.

Not great for

  • No transport after 8pm.

"An absolute jewel of the cities"

Helensburgh is the gateway between Sydney and Wollongong. It offers real community sense with abundant of country activities yet it is only a stone throw from the Sutherland Shire or Wollongong Metropolitan Areas.
We have bought into this area about 3 years ago and would never move out or let go of our property for many good reasons.
We love the facts that Helensburgh is surrounded by natural bushland, national parks and it is only down the road from Stanwell Park and beautiful local beaches.
For families with young adults, this suburb offers them the convenience to schools, universities (Wollongong University is within short distance), parks, sport grounds, beaches and local youth facilities.
Younger children will be safe and sound here as Helensburgh offers excellent environment for them to learn and grow.

Helensburgh always seemed to have a life of its own.
Travelling along the Princes H/way or Lawrence Hargrave Drive one would not know Helensburgh was there, as it is off the road.
One gets a glimpse of the Hindu Temple, and a few houses on acreage, but would not know there is a little town in there via Walker or Parkes Sts.
There's a busy railway station with electric trains to Sydney to the north and Pt Kembla or Bomaderry to the south.
I suppose it could still be regarded as a commuter town, with hundreds of workers travelling to Sydney 5 days a week.
There's a local bus service which seems to suit most people.

"Peace and quiet"

I moved to Helensburgh 5 years ago and will never move out. Its extremely peaceful and surrounded by bushland and is only 10 minutes to the beach yet it is close to Sydney and also wollongong. It has been described as a country town in the city. Everyone is friendly and there is a real sense of community. It is a great place to raise your children. There are plenty of activites to keep you and your children busy, with everything from gyms to a skateboard park. Yes the train station is located 3 minutes drive from the town CBD but there is a bus that runs from the staion to the town CBD whenever a train arrives. Also I think this deters 'out of town' vandals getting off the train and causing trouble in the town CBD. All we need is more places to eat at night (especially at the begining of the week).

"Nice location"

Have recently moved into Gymea Glade. Lovely neighbourhood, community & people are friendly. Wasn't sure about living here at first, but now we are certain that it was the right decision :) Not too far from Sydney & Wollongong. Only downfall i can think of is public transport, the train station is located too far from the town centre, which means a car is a must for living here.
