"Helensvale"

Previously, I lived in Helensvale and still have family and friends there. In this community, there is a great deal of friendliness, and at Christmas, some of the streets put on a beautiful display.

"Leafy, safe and hilly quiet suburb full of house proud gardens"

Have lived on the GC for 30 years having moved from down south. Having lived close to the beach when younger, to Mudgeeraba when kids were younger, we now call Helensvale home.
It’s proximity to the Broadwater and the freeway was important for us, as well as having a Westfield, tram, train, open spaces and parkland.
We have not regretted moving here once. We know our neighbours, the streets are quiet, walking is beautiful with gardens well cared for, kids walk safely to and from school, sea breezes from our hilltop position.
My one little gripe is there’s not many cafes, and if that’s the worst thing about a suburb, you’d have to be happy with that.

"A beautiful leafy suburb close to nature."

Helensvale has everything, beautiful surrounds, an abundance of wildlife and everything you need close by.
It's a nice leafy suburb which is well positioned in the northern end of the the Gold Coast.
It's close enough to get to the beaches via the light rail and equally close to the get to the the Brisbane city centre. It's also located close to the beautiful hinterlands.

Rentals in Helensvale

"Well connected"

I moved from Sydney to Helensvale 5 years ago and haven't looked back. I couldn't afford a house in Sydney so was amazed at the affordability and excellent amenities. Westfield, Helensvale Library, train and light rail stations are easily accessible and make it easy to get to Brissy for work or the beach.
The only down side are the limited decent cafes and restaurants however that has improved over the past 5 years so I'm hopeful this will continue.

Hi, im looking to buy i helensvale from sydney. has it ever flooded?

janal2
janal2

Not in the time I've been here. Before making the decision I checked the flood maps with council, you can find them online.

steveg21

Hi and thanks for your review.
How long does it take to get to Broadbeach on the light rail from helensvale?
Do you think the new Coomera link will be good or bad helensvale residents?

janal2
janal2

@steveg21 It takes about 40 mins from helensvale to Broadbeach by lightrail as there are quite a few stops along the way (Griffith Uni, GC University Hospital, Main Beach, Surfers Paradise etc). In terms of whether the Coomera connector will be good/bad for Helensvale residents is subjective. I personally think it will be good as it provides another way to travel aside for the M1 which gets busy during peak times and makes Helensvale even more connected with both other parts of the GC and Brisbane. Residents who have built homes in the Surrounds (large housing estate in Helensvale) may be negatively affected as the Coomera Connector runs right past the estate so I can imagine it would increase noise.

Hi @janal2, We live in a Sydney suburb. How do you compare people and the communities with the Sydney ones? And if you have kids going school, are you happy with the Helensvale state school ? Also do you commute to Brissy by train everyday? If so how does it feel?
Cheers

Hi @saravanmadan, discovery drive is the main road that runs through Helensvale from the gold coast highway. It's just a 2 lane Rd though, so not massive. Still relatively quiet. The homes are a bit older too, the original from when the suburb was built. I'm thinking those two factors may make it a bit more reasonably priced. Depending on which end of discovery drive you would either be really close to Helensvale plaza (shops) and library. This is also close to Westfield. The other end of discovery drive is close to Helensvale High school. Hope that helps.

Discovery Drive is extremely busy at peak hours, and is going to get busier as they intend to build more houses at Helensvale Plaza and behind Westfield. So long as you never have to drive at peak times, it's fine.

"Helensvale Hub"

I was transferred from Melbourne to work in South Brisbane. I looked around the suburbs of Brisbane but couldn't find space for my growing family and dogs. After moving to Helensvale I feel we could live here for a long time. I have a large block of land, spacious brick home and the Gold Coast lifestyle. I commute by train but it's worth it as my family can enjoy the beach any day of the week. Helensvale has good transport connections and plenty of parks and amenities. It feels nothing like the new housing estates because there is a sense of community and well built, tidy homes. 5 stars

Hi, How are you going with the weather there as you were from melbourne, I;ve also heard that helensvale is really bad with mosquitos is this true.

samh19
samh19

Hi kathyb9, We found winter fantastic and although summer here is much warmer than Melbourne, there are few factors which helped us enjoy it more. Our house is on the high side of the street and gets cool breezes. We have a swimming pool for the first time in our lives and use it :) Many homes in Helensvale have pools and they are affordable compared to where we used to live. Large trees shade parts of our home and garden. We sit outside most nights for dinner, as for Mozzies, we light up a citronella candle and they don't bother us. Our lifestyle is better here because of the weather and there is more space, greenery, peace and quiet but it is 5 mins to Westfield and roads/trains/trams connecting us to beaches and Brisbane.

bradc14

Hi samh19,
Old thread , but thought Id reach out.
We moved from Melbourne to Brisbane in December, we are struggling to find an area that we like in our price range.
Are you still enjoying Helensvale?
What part of Melbourne are from? We are from bayside, langwarrin/Frankston/mornington

Thanks in advance

Brad

Hi Brad, do you mind me me asking where abouts you are now and your thoughts? My wife, 13 month old son & Myself are looking to move to Helensvale or Coomera regions. I also grew up in the Melbourne areas you mentioned (Chelsea Heights, Patterson Lakes, Sandhurst). We bought our first home in Carrum Downs and it is currently on the market to sell as we look to move north.
Thanks, Tim

GGW

Greeting from another Melbourne family, we plan our retirement in GC. Helensvale is an area with a waterfront and decent block which we don't have in Melbourne. How is your experience so far? Flooding near the water? Smell near swamp land? Any potential issues we need to look at? what about Tranquility Circuit, Helensvale? any anyone lives close to this street?
Thanks,

dianew10

We have purchased a unit at Discovery Apartments and have regretted it ever since. We would move if we could. I would discourage anyone from purchasing or renting here. There are too many rules and managers are undesirable.

"It's got everything our family needs"

We chose Helensvale because it offers many conveniences in a leafy, established family suburb. The school has an excellent reputation, our kids walk/bike there on the walkways that connect most streets. There are activities within the suburb to keep everyone entertained. We use the skate park, tennis courts, indoor rock climbing, go-karting and aquatic center. I'm a big fan of the Night Quarter, a night market with local food, drink and live music on a Friday and Saturday night. The Westfield is always handy and the train to Brisbane was a massive drawcard. We haven't tried taking the new tram to Broadbeach yet but at least it's there if we want a night out with drinks at the Casino! The move from Sydney was a huge decision but we have not regretted it. The lifestyle is less stress and traffic and more time to actually enjoy life!

"I love this area!"

Having sold real estate in this suburb for almost 10 years I know most of the residents and properties in the area.
It is a fantastic region with easy access to the train, M1 highway, plenty of modern schools, great shopping and is just far enough away from Surfers Paradise!

Love It!!!

For any real estate need, give me a bell on 0409 784 783.

"Minutes Away - Worlds Apart !"

Helensvale is perfectly located on the northern end of the Gold Coast and is 2mins to the M1 and 2 mins to train station. It has a fantastic blend of older folks as well as young families creating a great mix of people calling Helensvale home. It is an extremely safe suburb that has all the amenities one could ask for. I have lived in Helensvale for over 10 years now( from the southern states) and I am very proud to call Helensvale home. I would recommend Helensvale to anyone thinking of relocating to this fantastic area.

"Hard hit by GFC"

Helensvale has been badly hit by the GFC and many people are losing there homes due to rising interest rates. Still prices in the suburb are too expensive for my liking. On the plus side Helensvale Westfield is a nice new shopping centre.

"Love the lifestyle"

Not all of Monterey Keys is a gated community. We are in a very quiet street in a home on the water. We enjoy feeding the ducks on the lake and having swans come and visit. At night the only sound is the fish jumping! The neighbours are friendly and there is no traffic noise. There is a large sporting oval and a number of smaller local parks. We both work in Brisbane and enjoy being 5 minutes from the M1 and only a 45 minute drive to the Brisbane CBD. It takes us 15 minutes to get to the beach or the Hinterland and 5 minutes to get to the local Westfield Shopping Centre. All in all its the ideal lifestyle. We have been here for seven years and cannot recommend it highly enough.

"Shopping Heaven-Where's the Heart????"

Helensvale is located at the base of Tamborine Mountain about 10 minutes from Labrador beach. It's the epitome of modern consumerist suburbia. It's existence is based around the Westfield shopping centre that's smack dab in the middle of the suburb. There are average schools, adequate council services, transport...blah blah blah. But where's the heart? Unfortunately like so many of our residential living areas in the state, there's a 'Golden Arches' approach to suburb development. All the take away mod cons, but no heart.

The next time ready09 finds something nice to say about any neighborhood will be the first time, so take this with a pinch (bag) of salt

Zero substance in this comment.....suburb was established 20 years before Westfield arrived and filled with plenty of heart. Where else can you live with so 40% parkland....a Golf course...fantastic Bowls club and so close to the train station & M1....not to mention Theme parks. I have lived here 6 years and wouldn't live anywhere else....my kids love it too!

Helensvale is a great place to live. So is Labrador, Burleigh, Kirra, Biggera Waters and many other GC suburbs. Pockets of crime exist everywhere in the country.

"Helensvale - Close to all amenities."

Helensvale is situated near the northern end of the Gold Coast and is about a 10 – 15 minute drive to the water. Helensvale has a large shopping centre with major supermarkets, department and boutique stores, as well as a post office, banks and medical centre. There are numerous choices of food in the food court as well. Helensvale has excellent sporting facilities, two golf courses, playing field, a skate park, bowling club with excellent greens and a swimming pool. Helensvale has a railway station with direct links to Brisbane and the Airport. The area is dotted with excellent schools, is within 20 mins of Southport and the beaches of the coast. Helensvale in very close to major theme parks of Wet ‘n Wild, Movie World, and Dreamworld. Although home prices did climb Helensvale remain stable at present and there are deals to be struck.
