Reviews of Hervey Bay Region, QLD
"Used to be good living here"
Since the Covid Hysteria thousands left places like Melbourne Gold Coast Brisbane purchased here as the prices once were honest and reasonable Once the madness caught on house prices soared
What people do not realise is the the Hospital and The Ambulance Service Doctors Surgeries cannot cope
Infrastructure will fail if not updated immediately
we are lucky that this year we have had good rain wait until a dry year we will be in deep trouble
Once a nice place now another rat race
Because we have a water supply for about half the existing population
aah might be worth investing in water tanks and spear pumps /bores then I guess ?
What makes alfreda the mouthpiece. She is so negative. We dont need her
What makes the water shortage more of a problem In Hervey Bay The massive influx of southerners since the hysteria Our population has exploded the infrastructure was not designed for this Yes it is raining but the water has to be treated for consumption Also with the population explosion this has caused a massive increase in the workload of Hervey Bay Hospital the Ambulance Emergency services The list goes on here is a hint do your homework before you sell your home in Sydney or Melbourne for 3 million buy a nice home here for 1 million forcing prices up for strugglers
This fixation on southerners moving up here has got to stop. The much bigger problem is the extraordinary number or Lifestyle /Retirement villages going up. Destroying the landscape and overwhelming strain on medical services with so many elderly people here. QLD
Sorry I hit send too soon. Qld health is a statewide mess, not just here in the bay.
"Beautiful Bay, Quite and Friendly area."
Purchased a home here 7 years ago and haven't looked back. A lovely area with great Restaurants and Cafes, friendly people, beautiful Bay with safe swimming, good shopping with all you need, schools, clubs, 2 Cinemas and our own airport. We have had no problems finding good doctors or trade services.
The Whales love it here and you will too.

"Lawless Bogan Central"
Even the whales move on. Boat Harbour Drive is a racing track, bogan neighbours make life unbearable. Council is useless except in the touristy areas, police have lost control of law and order. Great place to visit, but don't stay. No jobs, noisy, lawless. Lived (existed) here for 4 years next to a racetrack with bogan neighbours and an incompetent council and ineffective police force. Now moving to a far, far, better place. Can't happen soon enough.
It's sad that someone is moving on. Hervey Bay in general dose not have a good mix of young and elderly. There is little here for someone who is in the younger generation. I'm in the elderly group and even I can see this. Your right about the police force not having the capacity to enforce the law.
My wife and I want to move to Hervey Bay we were there for holiday and we love it so we thinking too move end of this year
I actually agree with you sadly
I have been here for a few months now and could not agree more. And such a shame because climate and beach is lovely. Every second person has a blow out exhaust. The noise is unbearable. You just cant get away from it. The culture is loud and aggressive. Its like stepping back in time. I never imagined it could be this bad. Very different to being in holidays here. Cant wait to get out of here. Its making me physically sick.
"The vibe is off"
We brought land here recently, but there just isnt a great vibe here in harvey bay! Were a young family so the parks are great for the kids but to go out and enjoy for us adults its just a bit dull! The towns shops need to revamp themselves as its not very appealing! Still unsure if we want to stay or not but
Yep People moved here without doing their homework
"Undecided"
I now understand what it is like to live in a small regional area. Most of the GP's are from overseas and are nervous nellies. Not enough specialists in Hervey Bay you have to go to Brisbane or Sunshine Coast because the hospitals do not have the equipment for certain operations.
There is a large number of the population that is elderly and infirmed and many who are in the lower socio-economic group.
If you are so unhappy here.... well you know what to do..... and what is wrong with being older.... it will be your turn one day.... so make your mind up. You either like it here or you dont..... I love it here..... Zabrina Andersen
This is not a forum where insults are traded. Instead write something positive in place of .......so make up your mind.......
I will say it again People moved here without doing their homework
I am 67 years old and have a successful business in Hervey Bay
And a home built before the madness
To be truthful I want to move
My wife doesnt
It was a good place about ten years ago
I am sorry but quality of life here now is poor
The Medical system cannot cope The council is not doing its bit
The roads are now jam packed aggressive impatient drivers
It was only meant to be a quiet beachside town now ruined
Sorry my opinion only
"small town with a real attitude"
the council is only interested in its self we are solving the employment problem by employing more people wether it helps the locals or just helps those people empire building
"Unfriendly"
Have to be the most unfriendliest place to new comers
Locals seem to want to be locked behind their gates and wooden fences and don't want to talk to their neighbours. I found the most friendliest people I met are the Woolworth workers at Eli waters they are very friendly and polite.
You must have met the wrong group of people. I have found the majority of people here are friendly and outgoing. The only time this was less apparent was when the virus scare was around and people tried to keep away from others. I still found most were friendly even though not as outgoing. I think your opinion of people in Hervey Bay was unfortunate as this place really is paradise.
I agree with Allison. Yes, some are friendly but most across all age groups act like pigs (especially during the virus scare) and are quite rude. The problem is cheap house prices, high number of renters, poor police presence and minimal employment the place is not a good option unless you want to go into a god's waiting room retirement village.
I agree. Recently holidayed in the area looking to purchase a house and its a town of very unhappy and unfriendly people. Decided we will go elsewhere. An older lady actually said to me its nice to see a happy child (2 year old) you don't see them often here.
"Great location but a totally feral population"
I currently live in Eli Waters having moved from Torquay but prior to that NSW. Cheap house prices and rents has attracted some of the worst characters you can imagine. Drug users, unemployed, driving issues - you name it as it is here No laws are followed but neither the police or the council do any enforcement anyway. It is a real pity as it is a beautiful area but the social disobedience at all levels leaves it as a last resort for quality law abiding residents. I am moving out ASAP as has done three of my neighbors.
Wow I am glad I am not living in Eli Waters because I havent met many of the ilk you speak of in other areas of Hervey Bay
Whoa Eli Waters nice place just kidding its not at all
"A small town with everything you need"
Hervey Bay is like being on holiday everyday. Easy to get around and friendly local. Safe beaches for young kids and water fun SUP, kayak, inflatable, dinghy JetSki etc yet bigger boats can moor safely also. It is a tourist town so can get busy but the people coming in keep the economy moving and is good for the town. Shopping is good with about any shop you would want, hospital and medical services are good, sports fixtures a plenty and great schools. A bit slow for druggies, headbangers and disco addicts, but that is the appeal for many.

Hmm I wont tell you what I did for a living in Hervey Bay
But I can guarantee you there are lots of druggies here
There are lots of druggies everywhere you go. I love the place. Been here 3 years and have not had a bad experience
"A boaring little town full of stoners or retired people interesting in doing nothing"
Its like an old sea side town, untouched by developers, with no real views to speak of, and no vibe or soul. Some ok places to eat, and so ok walks on the beach , unless you like fishing or boating this is not a place to enjoy surf, night life, or views, it all feels a bit run down, old and boganny. Better places in Queensland to live.
So tell me; where would be the better places to live in Queensland?
Yeppoon, sunshine coast, gold coast, Mackay, just to name a few
No, you must have misheard me; I said 'better'..
I've lived near Yeppoon, have lived on the Sunshine Coast and Gold Coast and worked in Mackay. You said HB was full of stoners and bogans - you think the places you mention aren't?
this is not a forum for back and forth, you like green I like blue, IMHO.. if you think different great, I am not going to have a discussion about it. Its simply my view. End of story.
I love Hervey Bay, but like most places it depends on the people who are around you that influence our opinions
I love Hervey Bay and at the moment it seems like so many other people do. The bay is booming. House prices have jumped, there are so many restaurants opening up, all kinds of keep fit, schools are doing well, hospital is expanding, esplanade looks great and in my experience when I am out most people say hello.
what a wonder full place to die, they are building the hervey bay hospice next to a crematorium hope fully the planning people will spend their last days looking at the smoke stack, my parents survived the 2nd world war have we learnt nothing this is how an incompentent local council treats the elderley
Being an outsider I am laughing at the negativity of some of you. Lets get things really clear - Hervey Bay is lovely and a growing regional town, it will NEVER be a thriving metropolis, so you either like or you dont. Helenm30- what has parents got to do with crematorium next to hospice and council??? I think it fantastic idea to develop a area for over 50s living, to independent, nursing, hospice and crematorium all in one - powered by natural gas. End to end from 50s to death.
Low cost housing and low priced rents = lower socioeconomic demographic people - no surprises here. Wake up and smell the roses otherwise stop complaining and enjoy or move back to where you came from. A lot of whinging Nancys on this page.
Wow seeing all these comments really is scary im thinking of moving to Harvey bay to point vernon but now not to sure can anyone thats living there right now give me some advice please
I'm looking forward to retiring in Hervey Bay in a few years. Got my land sorted in what I think will be an awesome place. I'm from down south and looking forward to the relaxed lifestyle you all portray as well as lots of vitamin D. After what we are experiencing down south at the moment, you guys are very lucky and fortunate to live in the paradise you live in. Want to swap?
Stuff happens everywhere, just have to embrace everything and let the crap flow by.
Looking forward to saying hi and if I'm ignored? Who cares.
Cheers from a future Queenslander ;) x
We are looking to move to Hervey Bay in the next 9 months after buying a house there. IMO, this is a place that is up and coming, you can already see nice houses being rebuilt replacing the old run down houses. The Council has a development plan for the growing population. The Sunshine Coast is now so expensive no doubt people will start looking farther north for affordable oceanside living. Hervey Bay is only going to get better and will become a bustling little town as the new restaurants/business start to open along the Esplanade. Every town has druggies, oldies and issues..........Hervey Bay is lovely in my opinion and can only get better and property will go up even more over the next few years. You can already see what's happening with property prices now.
What are the best suburbs to live in ?? We are considering moving up.
Hi Alfreda......why would a drought cause more issues in HB than anywhere else please? Do people use bore pumps at all ?
