"Too noisy"

I lived on Bronzewing Ave for 16 years and finally managed to get out about a year ago. My Wife loved the place when we bought it and I didn't mind it but just had a gut feeling the 2.5 acre block was going to be problematic with noisy neighbours and my gut was 100% right on the money

I had 7 neighbours all up including ones at the sides. That's far more than you'd have living in a normal house in Palmerston. And all of them are very patriotic about using every last bit of that land, too (which is where the problem comes in)

They all ended up building sheds right at my fenceline and love nothing more than to spend every waking hour grinding metal in them. And that's alot because most people in HS work from home, literally.

It's extremely noisy here these days and 2.5 acres is far too small with so many neighbors. You may as well be living with them it's that loud. Noise travels here and you can hear anyone's conversations if outside. None of our neighbours were friendly and prefer to keep to themselves.(bar one neighbour, we talked semi often, once every few months at the fence line) I had no issues with people preferring to keep to themselves as we were the same but it's extremely awkward spotting your neighbor at the fence and no one acknowledges each other. Just weird

Since locating a 5 acre block further out with only 1 neighbour each side life is peaceful once more! I feel I can breathe again and that oppressed, prisoner in my own home feeling disappeared. Thank God. I think Howard River Park is a horrible place to live nowadays, do yourself a favour and move a little further out, it's far superior in every way

If I had to think up some positives about Howard I'd probably say, it's closish to town, though has not much locally. There are some bush tracks, if you're into that kinda thing. And it's relatively safe from crime, which is also good here in Darwin. Though if you want serenity, run for the hills. Do not even think about coming to Howard Springs. It's full of people who are always home and within eye and earshot from almost anywhere outside, and sometimes inside, which is just not what you move 'rural' for. Did I mention termites galore and the original developer took all the top soil when building? It's all rock and gravel, not much grows. Good luck with fruit, you'll really need it

"A small town, good pub, laid back lifestyle"

Howard Springs is one of those little gems, a diamond in the rough so to speak. Good little quiet town, similar in some aspects to Humpty Doo, but closer to town. The Howard Springs Tav cooks a mean feed, decent prices. Steak that will fill your plate for $20, and they are whopping great plates. Free Strippers for over 18's every Wednesday night, and the Thirsty Camel Bottle-O attached has some fairly competitive rates given the price of the NT Liquor Market.
The Supermarket has a decent range of everyday nescessities, for some of the more specific stuff you will have to drive the 15-20 minutes to Palmerston or the 30-45 Minutes to Darwin City or Casuarina to visit Speciality stores, however, good little place to live.
Very little violence in this area, asides from the occasional young bloke who shoots his mouth acting tough at the pub, or the tourist doing the same, bouncers generally deal with problems and the locals are all nice and friendly. Good place to either settle down and have kids, or retire on a few acres.

  • Laidback Lifestyle
  • Good food at the Howard Springs Tavern
  • Country Living at Affordble Prices

Not great for

"Peaceful, quiet life, still close to town!"

We have been living in HS for the past 6 months now (Friarbird Crescent), we have lived in Palmerston and also the Northern suburbs before. We were tossing up weather to buy either a new house in like.. Farrar or somewhere flash, or move into an older house for the same money in the rural area for the piece n quiet and large block. After looking for a good 5 moths we finially moved to HS and are absolutely loving it! It's very quiet, there is wildlife everywhere, birdlife is amazing, our pets love it, theres always something to do in the garden, and best of all there are no noisy neighbours!! And hardly any cars. We have kids go past on quadbikes and think to ourselfes: Now thats living. It would be so nice for the kids to be able to do that. So if you're looking for peace n quiet, nice neighbours, no crime, tranquility, and all close to nature, still close to town then HS is where you need to be. It's great

"very nice area"

Howard Springs is a very nice country style area with large blocks and a great retreat for weekends away from the hustle and bustle of city life with lush bushland all around. This place is fast growing with more people moving out from the city area.
