"Like a country town, close to the city centre"

Ivanhoe is very friendly. You are never lonely in Ivanhoe. It is hard to make a quick trip to the shops because there is always someone to say hi to and have a chat.

"Quiet, Leafy and ever soo safe!"

Moved to Ivanhoe back in 2014 which was one of the best life decisions my wife and I made. Access to almost any part of Melbourne is easily available, schools are plentiful and park lands are in abundance. The neighborhood is always welcoming and we have never felt unsafe. Highly recommended to young couples as well as established families.

Ivanhoe suburb of Melbourne home spectacular beauty. Houses are quite expensive as average houses cost approximately $1.4 million and impressive, 5-bedroom mansions cost upwards of $4 million. Famed for tranquil, oak-lined streets and historic buildings, Ivanhoe is one of the most oldest and exclusive suburbs in Melbourne. Ivanhoe is home prestigious private schools such as Ivanhoe Grammar which is consistently achieving over 16% for ATAR which is always in the top 50 of Victoria. Ivanhoe is only 10 km away from the city and the area consists of numerous public transport methods such as trains such as the Ivanhoe station and trams.

"Understated Charm"

Ivanhoe definitely has an understated charm. It provides a plethora of options for the idyllic family friendly lifestyle; quiet tree-lined streets full of beautiful houses, various parks and gardens all throughout this wonderful suburb, great private and public local schools whilst also being within the catchment area of the many great schools of the surrounding area. Ivanhoe also boasts a wonderful village-style strip with great caf's, restaurants and boutique retail outlets.

This leafy suburb in Melbourne's green belt provides a sanctuary of peace and quiet, with friendly residents and shop-owners that give Ivanhoe a sense of community and belonging. Well serviced by public transport and free-flowing arterial roads, this is a safe and friendly area with everything at your doorstep, and only a short 8-10km to Melbourne's CBD. Property in the area remains under-valued for what Ivanhoe has to offer and with all of its' cafe's, shops, schools and parks, it is the ideal suburb for families with children or those preparing for a family.

Rentals in Ivanhoe

"A smart choice..."

Ivanhoe and surrounding area is always a smart choice.

Trendy cafes on one side, world class health care on the other, some of the best school in the country within stone throw and very, very close to the CBD.

Buying is not cheap though...

"Good old lovely Ivanhoe"

Ivanhoe is rather quite amazing, with beautiful periodic homes with nice architecture. It is generally a safe suburb, however it is a target for burglary. Mostly are very friendly people and a nice neighbourhood. The Leafy streets are lovely, especially in Autumn. It is Cosy and cute. Everything is at your doorstep. I highly recommend going to Upper Heidelberg Road because they have a really good variety of shops and many to choose from. I also recommend taking a walk along The Boulevard (and at Christmas time), it is rather stunning.

I'm renting (for free) in the area and have been looking to buy a place in here. It's ridiculous how expensive it is :( Besides that, your review is spot on :)

My only comment -> Access to Daerbin or Ivanhoe station is soooo close .. it's awesome! Can walk/bike/scooter to either one :) Big tick from me :)

Schools are also ok. FairyHills kindergarten is one of the best Kindy's I've seen :)

"Just the place"

Drive through the streets of Ivanhoe and you'll come to appreciate the serenity, the beauty and the amenities on offer, all so close to the CBD, and the Eastern freeway. It is a rare find, and suburbs like this are usually outer suburbs, rather than a mere 8 km from central melbourne. Just the place for people of all ages, but if you have kids, the schools make it a can't miss if you're in the market for a new family home.

"Great spot for access all areas."

I spent my teenage years in Ivanhoe and loved it. It is Zone One so close to the city via the train or only a 20 min drive. It is also not far from Yarra Valley, Warrandyte area, Fairfield Park for all the activities those areas have to offer. There didn't seem to be many other kids around, but with great public transport it was easy to get to places to meet up.

"A great place to live for people who want peace and quiet but need to be close to the city."

The town has great access to a range of services and activities, shops , two large supermarkets and specialty shops a great range of restaurants from Thai to italian, lebanese and chinese. Prices are quite reasonable. Getting to the city takes 15 minutes and if you want to get into Carlton for even more restaurants only around 10 mins normally. Picture theatres such as the westgarth are close by - and a good range of fitness facilities - three swimming complexes are very close.
For bike riding the amount of parks and tracks is impressive and in general the peace and quiet and greenery this close to the city is wonderful. Upper Heidelberg road can get very busy - but there are many side streets that can get you around easily once you know the area. We used to live in Prahran East - but the amount of parties and noise level was just becoming unlivable - here we have similar city convenience and great shopping but can get a good sleep at night!!!

"One of Melbourne's most prestigious suburbs"

One of the most prestigious suburbs in Melbourne, Ivanhoe makes for ideal living for families seeking an affluent neighbourhood. Based roughly 10km outside of the CBD, Ivanhoe is home to 10,000 residents living in period housing that often fetches over $1 million when sold. Ivanhoe plays host to two private schools, a football club, a cricket club, a golf course and an architecturally beautiful town hall. The town centre boasts a supermarket, newsagent, book store, real estate agent, various banks and a number of cafes and restaurants. There are two railway stations in Ivanhoe which link the town with Melbourne’s CBD as well as neighbouring suburbs such as Preston, Bellfield, Heidelberg, Thornbury, Eaglemont, Alphington and Kew East. The actress Cate Blanchett also grew up in Ivanhoe.

"An expensive but really great place to live"

I love Ivanhoe's convenience, its beautiful parks, its shops, restaurants and cafes. It’s very easy to get into the city either by train or through the freeway. The only major drawback is the cost of properties in the area.
