"Great for Uni students"

Jesmond is very close to the uni and perfect for uni students or investors. Walking distance to the uni, transport and local shops.

"You can really do better than staying in Jesmond."

Heard and experienced lots of stories in Jesmond and the nearby Birmingham Gardens. Students from the nearby Newcastle Uni getting harassed at the bus-stop on Blue Gum Road, numerous break and enter incidents, robberies and snatch thefts, people getting verbally abused on the street, drug dealers, occasional burnt out cars...the list can go on and on. No doubt the area is sprinkled with a generous serving of Housing Department homes.

Sure, it is a stone's throw away to the uni, but personally, I would sacrifice that for safety and peace. If you are still looking for better options and still as close to the uni, opt for North Lambton. There are really much better places than Jesmond or Birmingham Gardens.

Great for

  • Close to the university
  • Close to grocery stores

Not great for

  • Safety and security

"A colorful mix of uni students and the habitually unemployed is what you will find in jesmond"

. My partner and i moved to jesmond 3 years ago into a lovely little house in a street called harvard close, In that time our garage, car and amazingly the boat was broken into and ransacked, Verbally assaulted, have had eggs and vegetables thrown at our cars, nasty notes left on windscreens, people wondering into the backyard uninvited with feeble excuses why they are there, and the list continues,

Dont be fooled into thinking jesmond is a quite little suburb, during the day it is a generally quite and you can easily be led into a false sense of security. At night you are often kept awake by the locals arguing among themselves over trivial issues such as "where is the bong", "your a ho" and my personal favorite "why did you tell centrelink that!??"

in jesmonds town center you will find some local eateries, KFC, hungry jacks, Darbys $1 pies and some smaller take away outlets that seem to strugle to stay open, the local shopping center consists of a overpriced woolworths who like taking advantage of the local uni students a big w and a go-lo.

As for local entertainment you have a jerry springer like pantomime that you can view from your front door, attend a random spot fire on the street corner and watch the teen aged hoodlums run off into the distance and of course watch the unsurprised fire fighters and police who attend. you can catch up on the latest goss and find out who got broken into and what was stolen and do forget the weekly drugs raids.

Jesmond is a color suburb full off surprises at first and then all the going on's become second nature. if you want to experience for yourself why not move to jesmond and really live, well it's more like see if you survive.
