Reviews of Johnston Street, Port Melbourne

"One of the best streets in Port Melbourne, hands down."

I've been in Port Melbourne for a while now, and I can honestly say that Johnston Street is a rare gem in the area. Why? Because it ticks all the right boxes for a place to live by the bay, without many of the drawbacks of some of the other streets in the area.

So here are some of the great aspects:

The street itself has been completely developed. There won't be any new buildings going up, so you don't have to worry about loud constructions noises or large trucks blocking the street. Unlike some of the other streets on the west side of Bay Street (Rouse), you will have peace and quiet.

No noise whatsoever. Some parts of Port Melbourne can be a bit of a thoroughfare with lots of noise - eg Beach St\Bay St. But there is absolutely no noise AT ALL along this road. Dead quiet.

Close to the Beach, yet not too close. I personally wouldn't want to live on Beach St as it's right on the beach. Johnston street runs just off the beach, and walking down there in 2 minutes is great, but it's secluded enough not to draw the noise or crowds from the beach on a summer day.

Everyone is very friendly in the street as well. As it is high density living, some people can have neighbour problems. I don't at all. I think there is very little turnover in the street as well. I never see "Auction" signs outside any of the homes. So if a house comes up, I would jump on it.

The only downside? The houses\apartments can be a little expensive, but I guess that's Port Melbourne for you.

So If you are looking for an amazing place to live in Port Melbourne, Johnston Street should be on the top of your list. Quiet, friendly and close to the beach, you just can't go wrong.

"Johnston Street is an absolute joy!"

I've lived here for a while now, and I have no desire to move whatsoever. It's a dream street. The neighbours in my apartment block are fantastic. Whenever I have parties, I always make sure to notify them, and they always understand. I guess it's a mutual respect thing, as I am always cool when they have people over and want to make a little noise. Don't get me wrong, it's a very quiet street, just saying the neighbors are very understanding and fantastic! You don't get much road noise here either as it is a fair way off Bay Street.

It's a little expensive, but that's because we are pretty close to the beach, and a lot of the apartments have beach views.

Weekends are a joy, walking along the beach in the summer months. I also love the "everyone knows everyone" feel. Not just in my apartment block, or even street, but just the whole of Port Melbourne.

I would highly recommend this street to anyone looking to live in Port Melbourne.

"Money and more required...but very nice"

Big apartment blocks line Johnston Street in Port Melbourne, but this is not a bad thing, as all the apartment blocks look beautiful. On Street Parking is big plus, and not much of a thoroughfare for cars. Good upper class people generally live in this street with million dollar + apartments on both sides. If you are lucky, beach views are available in some of the higher up ones. It's a very quiet street that has great access to Bay St and even better access to the beach. A perfect location for most if you can afford it.

PS. I think there is some development work going on next to one of the apartment blocks, so beware in the next 12-24 months, there might be a construction zone next door :)
