Reviews of Laurieton, NSW

"Paradise found"

I spent most of my life in the NT and after deciding that I no longer wished to remain there after retiring I started looking around Oz for the ideal place. I must admit I originally thought of North Queensland (Like Darwin) or Coastal South Australia (Like Alice but on the coast). I did check SA and all the east coast from above Townsville all the way south to Mallacouta. If it was on the coast I visited it, initially whilst on leave and then, after retirement in 2005, I spent four years searching for the ideal retirement spot.
I fell in love with the Camden Haven area when I first saw it and, after travelling as above, I decided to retire here and bought a home in 2010. My wife and I still travel frequently and have never found any place to match Laurieton. It has just about every service we require. From my home I am less than 100 metres from a doctor, dentist, library and radiology, less than 200 metres from the greatest cinema in NSW and can walk to a Hotel, a Club, supermarket, chemist and other shops.
There is no shortage of social activities, the fishing is great, the neighbors friendly, the beaches go on forever and then there is the beautiful hinterland to explore. Port Macquarie is approx. half an hours drive away if there is something you need that you can't find locally.
You will find that you get a lot of interstate visitors who keep returning, in fact two of our first visitors wound up moving here.
After seven years I am still happy that I retired to Laurieton, every day is just another day in paradise.

"Living with the Best Nature Can Offer"

Been here 16 years from Sydney, not retired, work from home. I love that everything is so close, so convenient with parking right outside. Also love that I can walk into shops and be known. Natural surrounds are stunning and never boring. Anything you want to do is accessible, Port Macquarie only 25 minutes drive, Taree 35 minutes. Great cinema, good choice of dining, plenty of clubs, great fishing and water activities, bush walking, excellent health services, all the professional services you need, good schools, arts and cultural activities as well as sport, only 4 hours drive to Sydney on good dual carriage highway, enthusiastic can-do residents.....I could go on and on. Best move we ever made.

"Excellent town with fresh seafood"

Laurieton is like the much quieter, less built up version of Port Macquarie. There is a main street with a supermarket, cinema and Chinese restaurants to stock up on supplies for your camping or holiday trips. Monthly markets are also around to ensure there are weekend options to keep everybody entertained.
Laurieton also has a fish market that serves excellent fish and chips. The pick would have to be the shark meat fish and chips where the owner will slice a piece of fish from the shark when you order it and throw it in the fryer. The meat is much fresher and flakier than the frozen stuff you find elsewhere. At the entry to the town from the main road and behind the football field is also an Oyster farm so fresh oysters are absolutely sweet as if you fancy them.
