Reviews of Lydia Street, Brunswick

"Nestled between Lygon St and Sydney Rd..."

Brunswick is a dynamic suburb, full of both multicultural influences and on the cusp of transformation from what was 1970s style migrant occupation to hip young professional influences. As a consequence many houses are being renovated, and the street is a heterogenous vista of neatly rendered or restored houses and italianate brown facades with matching columns. As time passes the street is being de-browned and de-columned and more aesthetic styles are replacing what have become tasteless horrors. The recent property boom has been particularly strong here as neighbouring, more central suburbs have become too pricey. As a street, Lydia has a couple of particular advantages (apart from its position which is excellent); it is not a thoroughfare, and it is graced with speed humps, both of which set it apart from other streets in the area and make it safer and quieter. The only problem is that many homes house several adults (and cars) and street parking is therefore often a couple of houses away!
