MacLeay Street, Potts Point, NSW 2011

I've lived on Macleay Street for 15 years and it's gone from being backpacker central and the main bikey route to The Cross for drug deliveries - to being the most trendy street in Potts Point with many smart restaurants for the Eastern Suburbs wealthy to park their flash cars and flick their Platinum cards.
Property prices are extortionate with developers knocking down buildings with small apartments as fast as they can to build palatial mega units for cashed up empty nesters.
Everything you need is within walking distance as long as you don't mind stepping over the deros who still hang around the streets to get enough cash for a hit or bottle.
It's a bit quieter and old money towards the Docks End of Potts Point shops selling expensive antiques vie with expensive fashion stores - aimed at expensive antique ladies who lunch and need loose fitting clothes to cover up their sun spots.

If you live on Macleay Street you don't need to look very far for much else! It's a charming tree-lined street where At your doorstep you'll find amazing breakfast and brunch cafes, dining spots, trendy bars, cute boutique stores, weekend markets, grocery stores, post office, banks, health food stores, doctors, dentists etc etc.

This is a gorgeous street with some beautiful buildings. Unfortunately, this fact is not exactly a well-kept secret and so to live in Macleay Street you will pay a huge premium for the address alone. Do it, of course, if it makes you feel good to say you live there, but if you're even slightly imaginative and money-smart you can do a whole lot better by looking a few streets away for similarly Art Deco places that are bigger, sunnier, nicer ... And not price inflated. Why be a mug?

Located under 3 kilometres to Sydney CBD makes this street highly sought after especially when you consider you can buy a trendy studio in the 300's!

Macleay's myriad of cosmopolitan cafes, uber-chic boutiques and galleries give it an ambience and desirability which has elevated it to one of Sydney's most fashionable streets and is often described as "Parisian".
