"Inner West Gem"

We bought the house in Dec 2021 and we have enjoyed our living here. Our home is a renovated period home which are rather common here.
I know not many people in Melbourne knew about this suburb - but it is fine, its our little secret.
Our street is leafy and quiet and the neighbours are super friendly and diverse people. As part of LGBTIQ community, we were welcomed wholeheartedly. They are many young families and professionals live here along with the long term residents. Primary school is within walking distance.
The parks are aplenty and manicured and most have playgrounds. The cafes are brimming and each morning are full with young mothers with prams. We share facilities and shops with West Footscray as we live in the south of Ballarat road. There are plenty of sporting facilities around like Tennis, YMCA, fields for soccer or football.
The allotments are rather small but it is still acceptable for an inner city location
There are plenty of period homes around although the developments of Townhouses are fast as well
It seems everyone has pushbike in their garage. We ride to Footscray market on weekend and to neighbouring suburbs like Seddon or Yarraville
The suburb is safe, vibrant and easy to travel around. A good decision to move here in deed

"Safe, comfortable, convenient!"

So comfortable! Just moved here with my husband in 2021, and we have already formed such a comfortable and fun routine around the suburb! Lots of families and amenities within the area, accompanied by great parks. Not to mention its close proximity to the city.

"Leafy suburb close to the CBD"

I moved to Maidstone with my partner just before the pandemic started in February 2020, and it was a very lucky choice. Having lived in West Melbourne and Footscray, we found Maidstone quieter. There's an excellent coffee shop down the road and Highpoint is easily accessible.

What I really love about this place is that I can walk down to a quieter part of the Maribyrnong river, where everything is green. It was just so good to be so close to nature while in lockdown.

As I return to work in the city, I ride my bike in with a bike path that runs down the Maribyrnong river and connects to Dynon road and takes you into the city.

It's really a great affordable and green spot.

"Inner West’s best kept secret!"

I have recently moved into a property on Hampstead Rd with my young children.
I was a little apprehensive moving to such a busy RD but we couldn’t be happier. Once we are inside our unit we can barely hear the traffic.

We are a stone throw away from highpoint shopping centre & easy access to the CBD.

Lots of lovely parks & friendy neighbours.
I’m so glad we bought here as I think prices will only increase in value.

"Pleasant and Quiet"

Quiet pocket with heaps of parklands available at walking distance. Besides a little far from train (20min walk or one/two bus stops to train station), generally has good public transport access and very close to the city and Highpoint SC.

"Peaceful and Bright"

Nice suburb where neigbours look out for each other. Big clean and bright footpaths with plenty of room. A lot of small parks and good facilities scattered around the suburb. Especially dog friendly parks with its own obstical course.

In between footscray, west footscray, and maribyrnong which all cost more so this place is good value.

Many food and shopping options on from essex street to barkley street as well as highpoint and central west.

Buses are ok but depending on what line you are on are not too reliable (anything above ballarat road).

Close to tottenham and west footscray railway station.

"Pleasant surprise!"

This little pocket in between Footscray and Sunshine was unknown to me at first. Unaffordable houses in Footscray and the less than ideal reputation of Sunshine meant that I stumbled upon this suburb in my search for my first home. And boy what a pleasant surprise! With the hustle and bustle of Footscray just a stone's throw away, and the CBD in close enough proximity that most of the buildings can be seen from where I live, yet still not too crowded with plenty of recreational parks around, I could not be more pleased with my purchase. Thumbs up!

Friendly neighbourhood, quiet, safe, surrounded by ample of food choices, next to Footscray and Highpoint, about 8km to the city - most importantly, properties are still very affordable.

"Very Quiet and Family Oriented suburb!"

I love Maidstone, it has very nice friendly people, lots of recreation, good public transport, but houses prices are going up as the suburb is developing quite fast. If you're a parent, please do not go to Maribyrnong College, for the safety of your children as the school has horrible peers, rude teachers, crumbling facilities and disgusting toilets, make sure your child chooses Braybrook College, Footscray College or try out an selective school such as Melb High or Suzanne Cory! I really love Maidstone, but schools do need a huge amount of improvement. Shopping is quite nice as there are loads of shops on Barkly Street strip or Highpoint.

Great for

  • Lots of parks.
  • Period houses.
  • Public transport.

Not great for

  • Area is becoming more medium density, as prices go up.

"Close to everything"

Whether it's a shopping centre, a swimming pool, tennis courts, the city, food, transport, a church, Maidstone's prime location gives it's residents superior access to what Melbourne has to offer - and without a heavy price.

In terms of the suburb's aesthetic - it's streetscapes are a mixed bag, most of the best streets are in the north and south ends of the suburb. Better looking streets tend to have better people who take care of their gardens, lawns and nature strips. The suburb, being next to Highpoint does cop a bit of traffic.

Childcare and small parks are not hard to find in Maidstone. Cafs have started popping in and around Maidstone, and we can assume there is more to come brought by the gentrification of nearby Footscray.

Great for

  • Lots of parks.
  • Period houses.

Not great for

  • Area is becoming more medium density, as prices go up.
  • Not as trendy as Seddon/Yarraville.

"A true gem in the inner west of Melbourne"

I have been living in Maidstone for more than 4 years and I am absolutely loving it! It takes me 25 minutes door-to-door to get to my workplace in the CBD (Collins St) in the morning. Food choices are ample in West Footscray, Footscray, High Point, Yarraville, Seddon, Kensington, and Flemington.

High Point has improved greatly since we moved into Maidstone. There are now more shops (to name some, Zara Home, Apple Store) to meet the needs of young professional families.

I can't think of a better place in Melbourne that has the convenience to the CBD and has all the amenities that a family needs at an affordable house price.

Great for

  • Lots of parks.
  • Period houses.

Not great for

  • Area is becoming more medium density, as prices go up.

"A wonderful place to call home."

We purchased in Maidstone last year and have had no regrets buying here. Our criteria at the time was a period home, as close as possible to the CBD, that was affordable. Maidstone fit the bill perfectly. The area has a lot of period homes, mostly built around the 1920's, along with new medium density townhouses (for those that swing that way). As Maidstone houses prices haven risen, more and more houses are renovated and new townhouses built. The people here are friendly, the neighbours have been wonderful and we feel safe living here. The area has improved significantly in the last few years, with a lot of money being spent on public spaces by the council. There are plenty of parks around, (including two dog parks), all of which are maintained very well. There are train, trams and buses within walking distance. Ultimately, we recommend the area to anyone considering moving here.

Great for

  • Period houses.
  • Lots of parks.
  • Public transport.

Not great for

  • Not as trendy as Seddon/Yarraville.
  • Area is becoming more medium density, as prices go up.

Me and my partner are a young couple and we were looking for a property we could live in and renovate and hope for capitol growth. Maidstone seemed the perfect option and hasnt dissapointed! we bought a period home on a large block 10kms from the cbd for well under $500k!
We are loving highpoint, ascot vale cafes, parks, really everything we need!. We were very sceptic about the western suburbs but things are changing and now is the chance to get in! you wont regret, love it!

"Maidstone still good value."

People tell me that I am lucky to have bought my house in Maidstone ten years ago, as it was a lot cheaper back then. I remember that a lot of people back then told me that they will wait for cheaper houses to be available. I was not lucky, just smart as I have seen my house increase in value at a very good rate for the past 10 years.
The reason for this is location. We have easy access to the CBD, Highpoint is a short walk away and Williamstown is a 15 minute drive, which is great for summer. We often take our children and dogs for a walk along the Maribynong River and when we have a few hours we go for a bike ride around the River Bend. We also head to Yarraville, Seddon, Footscray Moonee Ponds and Ascot Vale for Cafes and shopping aswell.
The best part about Maidstone is that we have everything we need in our local shops, with so much more near by.
Maidstone is still undervalued, ask anyone who lives in the area why they wont sell. The answer will be because they love the location and know to find someing similar will cost a lot more. Sure there is other suburbs close to Melbourne, but who can afford $900,00 plus for a little house. Stick to Maidstone and you will find a good size house around $600 - 700,00 just don't be the one who is still waiting for a cheaper house to come along, as you will miss out!And my house is not for sale, I am not selling, so don't ask! Regards John..

"A Hidden Gem"

Maidstone is a hidden Gem. Growth this suburb has seen has not been experienced by any suburbs in Melbourne region. It is only 8klms away from city and close to everything with Train Tram Bus services and also 10 min drive from the epicentre of melbourne on & off peak hours. I really want to invest in this suburb but past few months i gather everyone has realised that and the rates are only northwards. But if you have money and looking to buy something - this is the ONLY suburb to invest in.
