"A tightly held suburb"

Melba has quite a mix of topography, people & home designs. It spreads from the banks of Ginninderra Creek to almost the top of Mount Rogers with a few flat parts on the way. Rich and poor live almost side by side. Homes vary from Govy houses and modest flats to bespoke houses which people designed themselves. Many people will proudly tell you that they bought their blocks in the early 70s, and they plan to leave in a box.

"Ideal place to grow a family"

Positioned at the foot of Mt Rogers and just a short distance to the Westfield Shopping centre at Belconnen, Melba continues to provide an affordable entry point for young families into the Canberra market. With a great local shopping centre that includes a 7/11 petrol station and 3 levels of schooling it is also a great place to own an investment property. There's convenient access to the city via Kingsford Smith Drive, and well maintained sporting ovals, a tennis centre and nature trails on the Mount Rogers reserve

Great for

  • Good shops
  • Pretty quiet

"Nice and friendly suburb"

I have lived in various areas around Melba and overall it is a nice suburb. People are generally friendly, the bogans are minimal (this is Canberra, they are everywhere) and the suburb has a good vibe.

Family friendly, with the primary, high school and Copland College. The shops are great with an IGA, butcher, hair dresser, takeaway/pizza place as well as an Indian and Chinese restaurant.

Close access to Lake Ginninderra and plenty of footpaths make it great for getting out for walks.

Not great for

  • Some areas a bit expensive
  • Expensive to get home in a taxi
