Reviews of Menai, NSW

"Miss living at Menai"

I lived in Schofield Place from 2001 to 2006 and was a beautiful place to live. Had employment change so had to move, then move again shortly thereafter to Canberra and lived there for 14 years until I got a job in Sydney last November 2021 and moved back to Sutherland. One step at a time, will be back living in Menai. Reasonably quiet, clean and close to a lovely shopping mall.

Looking for a home in Menai?

"Too far from amenities"

To be considered as too far south west in the Sutherland Shire - a sensible mind asserts that the more logical option would be to go for the bustling likes of Miranda or Como, because Menai is just geographically disadvantaged.

"Living here for 6 years and still hate it"

A lot of housing commission you can see by the people at the shops. The schools are not that great a lot of people travel out of area for better education. Just look at the results they speak for themselves. Far away from everything. The quality of restaurant are not great at all. Poorly designed shopping centre two seperate areas to shop from not convient. Close to Bankstown. Shire attitude is not nice. It def has awestern suburb feels to it.

"Menai is a fantastic, safe place to live"

I have lived in Menai for the past 2 years. I love it. It is safe, community orientated and the streets are well designed. Menai Central and Marketplace have everything you need and there are many families living here.

"Menai is a great hub outside of Sydney"

Menai is a great place to live if you want to be close enough to everything. Close to the river, bush walking, beaches and climbing, it really is too good to be true. 50 minutes from Wollongong, 30 minutes from royal national park and 20 minutes to the beach. Great location and plenty to do and see.

"Quiet, however not too small."

There is plenty to do. There is bike lanes, bush walks to the rivers, not too far from beach. It is easy to get to work as it is resonably central to west and east. Plenty of shopping. No train station so no condenced housing and drug central.
Schools are good.

"Feels more like Western Sydney than the Shire"

Menai isnt that bad but I definitely wouldnt want to live there. It honestly feels more like Western Sydney than Southern Sydney. New, cheap-looking houses which are very close to one another. I swear it is also much hotter than the eastern parts of the shire.

Not great for

  • Close to bankstown
  • Close to nuclear reactor
  • Hot and humid

After living in Liverpool and Canterbury Bankstown I can assure it is nothing like those places. No rubbish, burnt out cars or graffiti everywhere. Streets are clean and people take pride in their properties. Safe to walk after dark and no druggos and needles lying around like other places mentioned. People here are a lot more friendly too. Ive loved Menai. 5 stars

"A great family friendly area with the convenience of shops, schools, parks & restaurants at your door"

Menai is a great family friendly area to live with a great selection of homes to choose from. Mainly new style of homes as Menai is a fairly new suburb. The homes are all looked after, have lovely gardens and lawns, there are pathways in all the streets and bicyle paths linking the area with lovely parks throughout.

The Shopping Centre is great with all your needs there with a woolworths, big w, fruit shops, florist, butcher, deli and great speciality shops specialising in footwear and clothing.

Lots of great restaurants are situation in Menai and there is also Club Menai which has regular entertainment and a great bistro.

Fantastic schools to choose from, Menai has everything to offers, feels young, clean and vibrant.

Overall a lovely place to live and raise your family, retire or starting out.

"The centre of the Menai District"

Menai is a sought after family oriented suburb, many of the homes were constructed in the late 1970 and early 1980s.Unique developments include The Rivermount and Forest Glenn Estates comprising of resident only community facilities including pool, tennis court and club house. As a result the homes tend to have been purpose built for families, offering four or more bedrooms, several bathrooms and substantial living and entertaining spaces. Homes are generally situated on well proportioned blocks and boast double car garages.

Menai has a bustling commercial centre off Menai Road that offers locals a variety of shopping choices. There is a Woolworth’s supermarket, Big W department store and a large range of boutiques and specialty stores.

Menai Metro located on Allison Crescent has an array of restaurants including Rock Salt being voted Family Restaurant of the year 2009. Situated close by is Menai Catholic Club, a great meeting place for family and friends, offering plenty of live entertainment.

Menai’s families have an excellent range of childcare and educational centres close to home. There are a number of long day care centres and preschools catering to children in the nought to five age range, including the Carter Road and Bradman Road Childcare Centres. Families with primary school aged children also have a range of educational options within Menai. The suburb is home to Menai Primary, a public school, along with the Holy Family Catholic School. A number of secondary schools are within easy reach, including Menai High School and Aquinas College.

"Great place to live & work!"

I have seen many changes in the area that have all been positive. Growth of infrastructure, population growth and development of residential and commercial properties.

Menai is a great place to work with many cafes, shops conveniently layed out. Our office is based in the Menai Metro and from there I can basically work to all amenities.

"Great place to live and extremely convenient"

Menai is truly a suburb that has something for everyone in the family to enjoy.

For the kids there are numerous parks, play grounds and of course the skate park which they all really enjoy. There are also some of the best schools in the state which can cater to any Child’s needs.

There are a variety of super markets, shops, businesses and some fantastic restaurants throughout Menai plus some of the finest medical facilities.

Being a local resident, Menai is a great place to live and work as everything is only a stone’s throw away and make for an easy lifestyle.
