"Miles - See the Opportunity!"

Miles is in the lull before the storm. Don't underestimate the development and money that will shortly be flowing into this little town. If you do your homework you will see that the plans that Xstrata have for there open cut coal mines in Wandoan just north of the town are truely on a 'masive' economic scale. To write this little town off or dismiss it would be a grave mistake. If you are smart you will buy in Miles now before the prices start to really climb, because mark my words it is only a matter of time. Opportunity comes once then it is gone.. Don't listen to all the negative pessamists. They are everywhere. Miles 'will' benefit greatly from the planned expansions of the Surat Basin devlopments. The question is are you going to reap the benefit of this development when houses in Miles in just 5 years time will be in the $500,000's? or are you going to watch it all pass you by. Mies is a great town. If you want to move there do it NOW. Opportunity comes but once and time waits for no one.

Excellent advice. I am very keen on even purchasing cheap "land" to sit on. I am just researching to see about the new gas pipelines as hubby maybe involved. I will have to do some research, but your exactly right regarding the price climb. I look at WA mining towns and there racking in 1800 for 1-2 bedroom units a week! :) thanks again.

Looking for a home in Miles?

"A wonderful, vibrant, safe community with core values and friendly locals."

I have lived in this town almost my entire life, went away for 10 years and returned to raise my family as I cannot think of a better town to bring up small children in a safe country environment.

Everything you need is within walking distance and there are many clubs and committees to become involved in.

If you are considering a move, Miles is a wonderful place to live.

"The "Crossroads""

Miles is a great little town, friendly outback people and a growing community. The town itself has limited services and facilities, but there is enough to get by. Unfortunately, for anything decent, it's a 2.5 hour drive to Toowoomba, or about 1.5hrs to Roma. The town is going ahead, a few of the shops have received upgrades and the houses are being renovated. There are a few new developments, namely near thee racecourse end of town and up north. Prices are a mixed bag, but you can pick up a renovator quite cheap, new houses are on par with everywhere else. The town is serviced by a weir, which means water can be an issue now and again, although overall, it seems OK. The town has three hotels/pubs which offer different experiences for different people, but there is something for everyone. "Nightlife" as such is virtually non-existent, unless you like to bash people over the head with pool cues, then Miles is your town. Saying this, the town has developed a bit of a name as a cultural hotspot and some nights, gallery openings and plays make the place a bit more bearable.

The people are great. Lots of friendly, supportive and vibrant people and personalities. In particular, you can really notice the difference when rain comes.

Miles has been earmarked for a transport link upgrade, with coal infrastructure "seeming" (ha ha) to go ahead. This should bring extra jobs and further money to the community.

I live in Miles and personally I wouldn't say that you have to drive 2.5 hours to anything decent. We have a gym, olympic swimming pool and state of the art sporting facilities, the shopping facilities rival Woolworths for prices. Only 30 minutes drive there is an indoor heated pool, cinema and Target(I bet city people sit in a car in traffic for that length of time to get to any one of these facilities).

We have a number of sporting clubs which are all very vibrant, great schooling with dedicated teachers and generous businesses who dont hesitate to support local events with sponsorship and donations.

There are many clubs around the town to join. ie Lions, Apex, Garden Club, Football Club, Race Club, Golf Club, Bowls Club, Cricket Club, Mothers Group, Fishing Club, Netball, Junior Sports, Soccer, Artitsts, Drama, Tennis, Dancing and many more.,....

We have a fabulous Historical Village and Dogwood Centre to attract tourists.

Miles may not have a "nightlife" as such, but I dont think the comment about hitting ppl over the head with pool cues was warranted, if you did infact experience this during your visit then I assure you it is not something that happens each and every week! At least in Miles there are no violent bashings of innocent victims as has been seen in other cities and towns.

We have great restaurants and eateries, a good bakery and quality meat from local award winning butchers.

Miles is a fantastic place to live, bring up children and become an involved community member.

So I would say living in Miles is a great way of living, with plenty of jobs, lots of friendly people and a safe environment for families.

Hello shazgun,

Thank you for your positive comments about Miles, I wouldn't expect anything else from a local. While I agree that the facilities are OK, saying that they are "state of the art" is pushing it a bit.

In terms of the pool hitting comment (I was trying to be funny but...), have you been to the Aussie after 11pm???

Overall though, I completely agree, it's a great place....the people really make it.

PS. I didn't "visit"....

shazgun

Sorry about that, I wasnt trying to be rude. I just didnt think Miles was portrayed very well thats all.

And I guess state of the art depends on what your ideas are, We think the gym is pretty great considering we had nothing before it.

And yes, it has been a very long time since I have been out after 11pm so I probably dont know but it just sounded a little "hicksville-ish" and that really is not what "I" think Miles is like at all....

Didnt mean to upset anyone, just wanted to put a different spin on things.

Cheers,

No worries shazgun...when I read my initial review back, I did sound a bit negative...

Ciao...

shazgun

No worries, enjoy the Aussie....or Club 55 as it should be known now... lol!
