Reviews of Millicent, SA
"Guys don't visit here im begging"
I moved to Millicent in 2009 and was kidnapped the day I moved there. At night peeps in Millicent come chasing your cars when you drive around and the peeps will stand in a line on the roads holding hands not letting you cross. It’s very fearful. Mount muirhead also erupts every 5 years so please be careful guys
"Pros and Cons, what life is truly like living in Millicent SA"
Millicent cops a pretty bad rap but it no different than all small towns. Its has its ups and downs. I work in community services and you pretty much see and hear it all.
Pros
Millicent has so many things going for it for example: 1. They're is a dog park behind the information centre.
2. The swimming lake is amazing and it's free! it has a park, volly ball court and eateries right by the water.
3. There is a local hospital.
4. It's has two primary schools, high school + St Anthony's junior school.
5. Woolworths, food works and IGA.
6. Close to Cununda National Park, south end which is about a 15min drive and there are plenty of beach bush walks... Amazing! Beach Port is about a 25/30min drive.
7. Mount Gambier is a 35min drive and its 110 all the way + its a really good road to drive.
8. Millicent has the best park in the while area and out does Mount Gambier 10 fold.
9. It's quiet, you barely hear a sound after 8pm.
10. You get all four seasons.
11. Millicent is green and vibrant.
12. Alot of new people from different states have come into the town and are changing and challenging the locals to do/be better. It's starting to change in a more positive direction, where as this town for a long time has just been the people that have only lived here for their entire lives.
13. The town lives for sport so if you have kids or are retired and love bowls than this is the place to be.
14. Millicent is one the only places that you can still buy into at very affordable and reasonable prices left in Australia.
15. Mount Gabier has been given a grant to upgrade the hospital so in a few more years it be able to offer all services and when that happens house prices will go up.
16. If you get a limestone house without cracking buy buy buy!!! They are the best houses and with regular 150km winds, you wouldn't even notice.
Cons
1. The locals can be a bit prickly at times and it takes awhile for them to accept you, but if you are a confident person the towns quirks won't in the slightest bother you.
2. Renting right now is hard but cheaper than anywhere else.
3. If buying South East Real Eastate Agency has the worst reputation in town. During covid they sold alot of dodgy houses and hurt alot of elderly people and young families. Don't buy through them and make sure that you inspect the house yourself!
4. Old money rules the town and they will support one another no matter what.
5. It's hard to break in socially but it is changing thanks to people moving here from other states.
6. Yes there are drugs in the town but good luck finding anywhere that doesn't.
7. It's hard to get services such as therapists to come to Millicent.

"DO NOT LIVE HERE! THIS IS A WARNING! (Wish i could give it 0 stars)"
Well first it was an alright town but then everything changed. Shops closed down, millicent pretty much died. At the schools everyone seemed to bully each other all the time, death threats, fights.(epecially Millicent Highschool). The police don't do there job in the town they always go to beachport. Drug dealers everywhere, our neighbors were ones, and the police did not help us, even tho our neighbours gave us death threats. The mayor is a horrible mayor, and the council are useless.
Best you didn't stay in Millicent we don't need people with negativity and poor attitude
Sour grapes
Mary, you got a lot right there! It is my experience that people causing problems are defended, even by the Council. In fact if you complain, you're the problem. Not a good attitude and too insular.
"Time for un update and attitude adjustment Millicent!"
I'm a contractor and I do work from time to time here. It's a pretty place but the locals are very difficult to deal with. It's like your in a time warp when people have such backward beliefs and yet some how its acceptable here. Imagine your worst day in high school, yeah well that's Millicent 24/7. The OG's rule the town, good luck fitting in here if your not originally from Millicent. It's 2022, time to update your attitude Millicent!
I am of Asian appearance. And I am kind of thinking of retire to SA (from NSW) in 5 to 10 years' time. The "backward belief", is that the type that I should be concerned about?
Also, other posts have mentioned drug problems. What is your observation on that? Thank you in advance.
"Drive though township"
If your thinking about moving here, do your research. Ask the locals in the Mount what they think about Millicent it's the only way you will know for sure if it's the right fit for you. The locals are really clicky and don't like outsiders. If your born and bread here you'll be right but if your looking for a green change there are better areas to live that embrace new people from diverse backgrounds. Personally, I come here to work but can't wait to leave. Not for new families.
Allen, the town has definitely changed somewhat from when I did my initial review years ago. I found noise the biggest problem when I last lived there, I couldn't escape it.
I haven't visited yet but am interested. Where did he noise come from?
Andrew wherever I lived there, the neighbours around me making a lot of noise. The town itself is pleasant enough.
It was alright when we moved to millicent 9 years ago but past 4 years it was horrible for my family, we were forced to leave!

"Depressing.."
It was a reasonable town to live in many years ago but is dying a long slow death. The town is generally clicky and not a good environment if you have any mental health issues. A tough, gritty, dour place with a strong underlying drug culture. Some neighbours can be extremely noisy and selfish. Best thing about it is the location and parklands.
Great for
- Inexpensive
- Location
- Climate
Not great for
- Pests (but no more than usual)
- Not right on the water (maybe good also)
- Not 7-day shopping (maybe good also)
Who lives here?

And as another review said everyone seems to hate you if you were not born in millicent or are new
