Reviews of Morris Street, Ashwood

"Quiet friendly street"

Morris Street is a pretty, quiet little street positioned right at the western fringe of Ashwood, bordering with Ashburton. Consisting of six post-war houses (C1950) constructed of brick and weather board, the street is lined with lovely native trees and shaded by various mature age deciduous trees which grow in most of the front yards . The 4 corner houses in the street face onto boundary streets but are still considered neighbors of Morris Street by it's occupants! - taking the total to 11 houses in the street. One corner block has been tastefully redeveloped as a dual occupancy. Neighbors are on friendly terms, in fact, we have a bbq/drinks night coming up soon, and participate in such festivities as Halloween trick' o' treating and many decorate their homes with Christmas lights in December. Neighbors are a mix of both young and old, families and singles.

There is a Safeway within a 3 minute walk (corner of High Street Road and Warrigal Road), a Price Line Chemist and a KFC is currently under construction. A shopping strip consisting of: a video easy store, 2 x hair dressers, a dress repair shop, locksmith, bakery, fish & chips, news agency, fruit shop, real estate agent, continental deli, chemist/beauty salon, picture framing, paint shop, vet, shoe shop, cafe, (great) Italian, Chinese & Thai restaurants, a 7-11, milk bar, subway eatery, karate studio, Golf shop.... and more.... are all within 3-4 minutes walking distance from Morris Street and if this is not enough to satisfy, there is a bus stop at the end of the street that can take you to any of our neigboring shopping strips such as Ashburton, Burwood, Oakleigh, Mt Waverley... to name just a few. Chadstone Shopping Centre is less than a 10 minute drive away and The Glen shopping Centre is about 15 minutes drive away.

There are several great schools, kinders, child minding facilities in the area and Homesglen Tafe is a short bus ride in one direction, with Deakin University a short trip in the the other.

We have fantastic medical clinics within a few minutes walking distance (Ashwood Medical Centre and Ashwood Sports Medicine Centre) and others such as Electra Park Medical Centre are within a very short drive of the street. Mt. Waverly Hospital, Monash Hospital and Cabrini Hospital are all close by.

There are several sports facilities in the area including reserves, hockey grounds, soccer fields, cricket & football grounds, 2 x golf courses, tennis, lawn bowls, swimming pool, gyms, walking and bike tracks (Gardiner's Creek runs through Ashwood), karate studios, basketball, netball, gymberoo for the littlies.....

Churches are all close by.

The freeway is a 7 minute drive away (Glen Iris, High Street Exit) and the city is approx 12 km. One night my husband and I made it from our dining table at the Sofitel (CBD) to our front gate (Morris St) in approx 20 minutes!! It was a dream run and late at night, but it proves that it can be done!

So, there is some info about Morris street. In our family there are four people, a cat and a dog and we all love living here. Oh, I should mention that despite there being a large number of pets in the street, the native animal life in the street is lovely too - possums, lorikeets, finches, wattle birds.... there's even been the odd duck!
