Reviews of Murray Bridge, SA

"Full of stink. A stinking, wretched place."

Surrounding by a stinking ag industry within a strong wind from the central city you'll be exposed to a cocktail of horrible smells some of which are gut churning. Council don't care nor does anyone else that matters so good luck if you want fresh air

"Nice country area not far to Adelaide"

Growing country town have all facilities close by. Love the area around Christian road and Christian reserve park Where quality homes and nice people . These new house built near the hungry jacks are also very good. Good neighbors, humble people . Peaceful and quiet. Love the Sturt park . Live there near hungry jacks for 8 month . Very peaceful, walking to the Christian reserve small play ground on the other side of the Adelaide road not far from life house church too.

"Depends where you live"

One side of Adelaide Rd is good.
Closer to Fraser Primary has gotten quite bad.

Alot of family living below the poverty line and combod with drugs and drink it really has changed for the worst.
It used to be very neighbourly.

Houses are close together and you can hear your neighbours walking through the house at night.

On the street arguments, theft, assaults, and cops have increased.

Look over the river or closer to Mount barker, which is what I'm doing now.

"Nice country town"

We moved here recently, bought a nice house on the eastern side. We found the area quite affordable and good value. Apart from speedway ruining the peace and tranquility every so often, it is usually quiet. Some of the local owned takeaways are terrible, but thankfully the major chains have most covered. Our neighbors are both friendly, quiet and keep to themselves. The area could use a clean up, particularly on the main street. Some of the old buildings are in such disrepair they should be demolished. Nightlife can be a little scary, with the southern part of Murray Bridge being feral and walking the streets. Shopping options are well covered by the majors, apart from furniture and clothing which is Adelaide. Internet is NBN and is just fine for now, might be a different story in a few years. Parking, plenty of space anywhere really. Resale value should be good, rental yield should be reasonable. The area has begun to come into the 21st century and just starting to be noticed by people with employment. The health care here is awful, the private hospital charge $70 and give you whatever medication you ask for, but don't examine or scan your injury. We've heard the childcare is excellent but have no need ourselves. We feel safe everywhere during the day, but wouldn't walk the streets at night. The park by the river is excellent with a playground for the kids and free barbecues, too bad their are so many flies and mosquito's you need to cook twice as much. No idea about gym's up here but you could certainly walk across Murray Bridge during the day to keep fit. Traffic is always minimal, however it seems their are an extraordinary amount of poor drivers here. Whatever the speed limit, they'll do 10kph less, they don't always indicate and have a habit of failing to give way. I am unaware of any public transport. So far we are happy with Murray Bridge North school, but its early days. Overall we are happy with the move.

Great for

  • Cheap
  • Small town
  • Good value

Not great for

  • Speedway is loud and goes until late
  • Mosquitos are rampant by the river
  • Most people here are low income

"A large country town with excellent recreational facilities"

Murray Bridge is the 4th largest city in South Australia. Situated just 80 kilometres to the east of Adelaide, it is on the Princes Highway and the main rail route to Melbourne.

The population is now over 18,000, and has undergone a huge expansion over the last ten years. The town has seen an incredible number of housing estates pop up, as the region has thrived in terms of its farming capabilities. The recent drought and low water levels in the River Murray have presented some major challenges for the area.

The town has a number of services and facilities. There are a number of primary and secondary schools, many shops and excellent recreational facilities including a golf course, tennis courts and oval.

Just an easy drive to Adelaide via the Southeastern freeway, quite a number of locals commute multiple times per week.

"A great place to visit"

Murray Bridge is a good sized city with great facilities. I have visited Murray Bridge regularly over a number of years to water ski on the River Murray.

It is easy to get to, just an hour out of Adelaide straight up the freeway and the people are friendly and helpful.

The water skiing here is excellent and access to the river is easy. There are a number of places you can drop your boat in and a lot of places up and down the river that enable you to ski on your own on glass like water.

There are enough shops and food outlets for you to buy everything you need without ever having to leave Murray Bridge.

A great spot for anyone wanting to take a step away from bigger cities and not give up on facilities.
