Reviews of Nagambie, VIC

"Not great for families"

Nagambie caters largely to retirees and travellers. As such, there's not a lot here for families. All parks and activities revolve around the lake, particularly towards the caravan park. This means that the rest of the town is pretty much neglected outside. The large majority of the focus of the town is for visitors passing through the main street.
The biggest reason we moved is because of the RATES!!! We owned a house on an approx 750m2 block. Including our water rates, we were putting out nearly $3800 a year in rates! And what do you get for that? Well the middle of town is nicely maintained to get people to come and visit the lake, shops, and stay at the caravan park. That's nice for the visiters and business owners. But for the average familiy living here, $3800 doesn't get you much. The park nearest us has no playground equipment and was so poorly maintained the grass died and it was just a dirt patch. There are ponds that are so over run with weeds and rubbish there'd be a lost tribe living in there.... if they could afford the rates. Drive one street in from the main street and you'll see TRULY what your rates get you. Nothing for families, no off leash areas for dogs, once a year there might be some mowing and some street sweeping.
You have to go Seymour or Shepparton for anything other than basic necessities.
The retiree demographic also means that the people who live here are men going through mid life crisis', and Karens. Caravan's, Harleys, and hobby shed's the size of aircraft hangers built on blocks 700m2. Since moving to Nagambie, we ended up being boxed in by shed's so our sight line looks like we live next to a bus interchange and the permanent shade meant our grass died. The Karen population here is thick too. Playing with your dog in the park off leash? That's a Karening. Walking past someone's bin on the footpath and you drop a bit of rubbish in it? That's a Karening. Haven't mowed your lawn for a couple of weeks? You better believe THAT's a Karening. There's a BEAUTIFUL beach over in the Rich Estate.... but visit that and you'll cop glances.... let your dog off the leash for a swim? THAT'S a Karening. The amount of menopauseal fun suckers in this town is brutal. We now refer to Nagambie as Boomerville.

On an additional note, there's a section where i'm expected to pick a word that best describes Nagambie. There's NOTHING there negative. Its basically. Would you call Nagambie great? Really great? or Super Great? Its not.

"Nagambie - River and lakeside respite from a big city"

The lake side central Victoria town of Nagambie is growing fast, along with the entire region.

With the magnificent Lake Nagambie and the surrounding Gouldburn river, a 'blue sky' cliimate, water sports, wineries, gold mines and open forest country to explore, Nagambie is a leisured, refined oasis of wine, water and wonder, in a dry State.

The region is a fun day trip, or weekender destination, or home for those who are able to work away from the City (or happy to commute 1.5 hours).

Only 150km North of Melbourne, unlike many country regions it has a water rich "present and future". Take a boat cruise from Tahbilk winery down to Michelton winery, paddle a canoe, sail or explore the river in your tinny, water ski etc. Swim, play, fish or just sit under a shady tree overlooking the water and watch the world go by.

Away from the town of Nagambie itself there are forest trails to enjoy, picturesque farms and horse studs and much more which all combine to provide abundant scope for a peaceful leisured life away from the 'rat race' but close enough to it, to allow access to all urban amenities when needed..

For the thrill seekers, Nagambie is also a skydiving destination of renown.

Nagambie is a similar driving time from Melbourne to the more recognised of Dalesford and the town, region, farms and waterways have huge upside potential which is increasingly being realised with new resorts, restaurants and developments along with the town's new freeway bypass, all set to position Nagambie to be the 'next big thing'...

Spend a weekend, find a way to make Nagambie a part of your routine and come and enjoy all that the region has to offer.
