Reviews of Narrandera, NSW

"Just Peaceful and green."

We moved from Sydney in May 2019, to Narrandera. The people are so nice, they really listen and do not judge like Sydney.
I wish I had made the move years ago. You can buy a wonderful home for a third of the price of Sydney if you're lucky maybe a Qrt.
Not a big town, I had to get an ambulance one time, they were there under 10 mins! I was in Narrandera hospital under 10 mins...Ha! try and get that in a big city...Hospital staff are amazing. You do have to book in advance at the local doctor's...They have a great dental surgery in the main street. The dentist is wonderful. Coles supermarket, and other nice shops too. Crime...the Police are onto any of that, and catch them real quick! It's like any place, but it is a safe place to live. A town of trees and more trees, lovely in spring and autumn. It is peaceful, many opportunities to even start up your own business in the main street. We love this place and the people. You will need a car.

Looking for a home in Narrandera?

"Lovely rural town, with supportive and friendly people."

We have moved here from Sydney and fallen in love with the place. It has NO TRAFFIC LIGHTS, that is how lacking in traffic the town is. It is picturesque, pretty and peaceful.

If you are looking for a tree change and to get away from the hustle and bustle of mad city life, this is the place to come. Great for the kids to enjoy the outdoors!

Properties offer value for money on rental return. Alot of properties being able to be positively geared immediately. The real estate won't double in resale value, but as far as a rental return goes, you can't go wrong.

Great for

  • Peaceful
  • Pretty
  • Friendly

Not great for

  • A little isolated
  • You have to travel an hour for decent shopping
  • You have to travel for specialists

"A Great Place for Easter"

I'm am annual visitor to Narrandera for the Southern Cross Cup flying competition held south of the town so I've stayed in the town motels, with mates and without, quite a few times now despite being a pom flying in from UK. So my comments might not be typical, though I am a fam of Oz bush poetry and John O'Brien though I missed the festival last year by a few days.

I have a really soft spot for this historic town with its almost victorian style brick houses, very unusual in Oz, and I enjoy every visit. I nearly bought a house here, a spanish hacienda job built by the developer of a bungalow - oops, sorry, lowset - development on the north of the town, a beautiful place but a bit out in the wilds for this city gent.

Great things about the town are its old brick houses, the John O'Brien church, and the best fish and chips I have experienced anywhere - and that's a lot of fish and chips worldwide - at the chippy on the top of main street. Its got a great lake and its a historic landmark in the breakout from Sydney in the crossing of the Murumbidgee.
Has great hot rod festival at easter when they close main street for the the hot rod runs - love that, with all the locals turning out to view.

Not so good is the feeling that the place is declining. Plenty of neat homes about but the graffiti and closed shops are starting. It gives the feel of a place living on its past, which is a real shame as this town would suit a lot of people but I do wish the standard of catering on the main street was up to the excellent standards at the RSL club.

Cheers you Aussies, I back for the Ashes - hope you have a plan for losing!

Cheers Broone

Broone....mate? where's the graffiti....It must have been taken care of real quick, non around. The place is not declining at all, just 2-3 shops for sale that's all. Sure is not living in the past mate, she's doing really well.
