Bungarribee is being developed on the old telstra site, that was originally a part of Doonside. That land was purchased by the State government and forms a part of the Western Sydney Parklands. Sale of homes from the Bunya estate (in new suburb Bungarribee) is meant to fund the rest of the Bungarribee precinct of the Western Sydney Parklands, which includes a large amount of recreational space, wetlands, bike tracks and sporting facilities. It's quite common now for new estates to be given a brand new suburb names. For marketing purposes, it increases the appeal of the 'new suburb', particularly if surrounding areas carry some social stigma or are considered a bit daggy (i.e Doonside). Bungarribee is developing quite nicely, although it is still flanked by the Huntington Heights estate ( Doonside ) and the part of Doonside which is located South of Doonside train station.
