"Lovely up and coming area"

Great location - right next to the linear trail and super close to the obahn to take you into the city. A lot of construction at the moment, due to the great location but still an up and coming area. I lived here for 6 months and my car got broken into. On another occasion I woke up to the cops at my door at 3am, as a group of teenagers had been breaking and entering, and said they had stolen tools from our house (turns out it was the neighbours not us).

Overall, I would live here just make sure you have some good security and insurance!

"I hate the name, but very happy living here!"

After living in the Burnside council area for nearly 2 years, I was a bit hesitant about moving here - Burnside is just beautiful, after all. But now that we're settled in, I'm very happy, though it has only been 8 months now. We decided on Paradise because it seemed a nice, quiet suburb, with excellent transport due to the O-Bahn interchange. That is a serious boon - we live about 4 minutes walk from the interchange, and then it's about 12 minutes into the city, so I just leave the car at home if I need to do anything in the city. And with the future upgrades to the O-Bahn just announced, it should be even faster. For some people, there just won't be enough going on in Paradise. There isn't a supermarket, cafe, restaurant or even a corner shop within walking distance from my place, but that doesn't bother me. I do think that the area next to the interchange should be developed with some higher-density housing and cafe's, shops, restaurants etc - it's crazy that this potential hub is wasted while Adelaide is allowed to continue sprawling - so inefficient! But I'm sure not everyone would agree with me.
As for shopping, I do a lot online but Woolies is a 5 minute drive away in Gilles Plains, Coles is 7 minutes away in Dernancourt, there is a well-priced IGA at the Campbelltown shops on Lower North East Road, and Drake's Newton is also very close - and is surprising in the breadth of its range (bacala, anyone?).
In terms of schools, one of the best primary schools in the state is East Marden, but you need to live in the right zone, and I believe that means west of Darley road (on the same side as the O-Bahn interchange). I'm not sure about high schools, as I haven't looked into that yet.
In the end, the only thing I really miss about Burnside is the glorious public spaces - there are so many wonderful parks there, and I miss being able to take my little girl and our dog to the same park, and let our little doggie run around freely. Here, Thorndon Park doesn't allow dogs at all, and Linear Park enforces a dogs-on-lead policy. But Burnside is only 15 minutes away!
I will respond to one person's comment about the architecture in the area - it's not beautiful, sure, but it's not that bad either. It certainly doesn't inspire disgust - maybe ennui for some. There are lots of cream brick houses from the 1960's, and some gardens are quite boring, but at least the houses are solid. The people who live around us are polite and friendly without being intrusive, many from an Italian background. Anyhow, the location and value for money outweighed our aesthetic concerns.

Great for

  • Very close to Newton (restaurants/shops)
  • Within zone of good school
  • Linear Park
  • O-Bahn - Quick city access.
  • Thorndon Park Reserve
  • Parking

Not great for

  • Needs more cafe's
  • Not many high quality restaurants

"One of Adelaide's Eastern suburbs"

Paradise is an eastern suburb surrounding Campbelltown and Athelstone suburbs. Paradise was established in 1850. It is about 20-30 minutes into the city, depending on the traffic. Also, there are not many high quality restaurants or cafe's in the area, and should be developing some soon. Some street houses aren't all that great. Some houses will be neat and tidy, while most of the houses will be old and run down, and not well look after, which makes the area very un-pleasent. Public transport is excellent, with the Adelaide O'Bahn and bus stops throughout the area.
That is all I know about PARADISE. Hope this helps a little bit!

Great for

  • Parking
  • Linear Park
  • O-Bahn - Quick city access.
  • Thorndon Park Reserve

Not great for

  • Some houses aren't very look-after.
  • Needs more cafe's
  • Not many high quality restaurants
  • Very little problems!

Actually Youll Find That Paradise is Classed as a North Eastern Suburb Being on Lower North East Road

Sorry Mac...the whole Campbelltown area including Paradise is the last eastern suburb of Adelaide before it becomes a North eastern suburb in the ttgully area..the geographics state this as well.. the north eastern was thrown in ..in the 70's to make it easier for people looking to buy in the area as back then Athelstone, paradise weren't well known like areas such as dernancourt, Windsor gardens Modbury ECT..it was to give these new comers an idea where they were heading..I did my history homework on that one...realistate firms, sporting events, scouts ECT will state north eastern..but if you want to be 100% right ..it's actually still an eastern suburb...which should be classified as that..

A wonderful area.you have some stories of bad things but nowhere near as bad as say Salisbury or Smithfield.

I agree... Paradise is the last suburb in the eastern suburbs. The suburb is changing rapidly, the price's of homes are around the 650k for a run down home that needs a full restoration to some homes sold in the early one million dollar Mark. Many decent people want to move into the eastern suburbs but can just afford it many can't so they're trying to buy in paradise. This suburb in the next five to ten years will be extremely unaffordable to the adverage buyer so those people will have to look across to the north eastern suburbs in the TT Gully area the council rates are extremely high , where as Campbelltown councils rates are reasonable and Campbelltown take the green bin twice a month where ttg doesn't. I would never buy in the northern suburbs those suburbs are just riddled with crime, serious crime, high break-ins, high stolen car's, stabbings, bashings, many murders, gangs, for home owners the council rates are extremely high for the area. So to the ignorant..every suburb has crime even medindie and Springfield. Just bad suburbs have way more. I Will stay in paradise it's walking distance to everything it's near the foot hills and unlike all those residents who live near the beach, your suburbs are never yours in the warmer season's because beach goers from outside your suburbs clog the streets with their cars
.. so night life is zip in paradise..that's great because less noise, less trouble, I have to agree with others restaurants..not many good ones but the rezz hotel newly built and very high class with meals and service to match..
There are many cafes but I'm not impressed with alot of them. And I won't be back to them. Paradise is an upper middle class suburb. That's my view

"A great place to live for young families & retires."

I have been living in Brian Grove Paradise for 14 years, its location is fantastic as the end of the street backs onto the linear park which has a kids play ground & BBQ facilities. A great place for a young family with bike tracks, playgrounds and the torrens where the kids often feed the ducks. The bike/walk track has also attracts retired couples going for there earily morning walk.
A 10min walk along the track also leads to the paradise interchange which gets you to the city in minutes, great for those professionals working in the city.
An Absoulete hidden Gem is the suburb of Paradise.

"Up and coming prestigous area"

I enjoy living in Paradise, especially because of the lovely Thorndon Park reserve. It's well kept, and a real asset to the community. There's also Linear Park, which I enjoy cycling along. I've noticed that the older and more rundown houses are starting to get demolished now, and lovely new homes are getting built. I think Paradise is just starting to become a bit more prestigous now, and given another 3 - 5 years it's going to be even more desirable. It's been good to see the Coles and Woolworths complex at Newton get upgraded.

Great for

  • Thorndon Park Reserve
  • Linear Park
  • O-Bahn - Quick city access.

Not great for

  • Needs more cafe's

"Obahn to the city in a matter of minutes"

The suburb that lends its name to the Paradise interchange for the obahn is a nice area for families. Lining Linear Park there is plenty to do and with the obahn right there getting to the city or tea tree plaza is a breeze.

The houses tend to be the 3 bedroom cream brick homes built in the 70's and 80's making it a good family area.

The blocks are a good size, the streets are lined with Australian natives and it has a generally good feel about it. It is what I would call a typical Australian family suburb.

It’s not far to Newton shops, or Gilles Plains so getting the essentials is easy.

There isn't much of a nightlife but you can easily get out for a good night into the city or across to Norwood or north Adelaide.

A good area for families.
