"Best of both worlds"

We bought in Parkdale 7 years ago, it has a lovely vibe, close to bay, close shopping, train etc. The homes are character filled but now a new mix of contemporary homes is refreshing too. The local village is lovely, plenty of good food options including free range charcoal chicken, a great butcher and the team at Station Stop
are the best. The local primary and high school options are great too.

"Beautiful Parkdale"

Have lived in Parkdale for about 5 years now and couldn't speak more highly about it. Parkdale is a safe suburb along the beach with a great section of shops and cafes to choose from. The commute into the city is only 30 minutes and a lovely drive down Beach Rd. The suburb is definitely a hidden gem!

"Beachy Community Feel"

Have lived in Parkdale for a few years now. Best suburb we have lived. Excellent community, not too busy, a hidden gem with everything you need within walking distance. Supermarkets, schools, library, shops, beach, train, cafes, parks and restaurants. Only a short drive to great surrounding beachy areas and shops including Bunnings, Officeworks, Aldi, Rebel etc and Southland not too far away.

"Great suburb, but..."

Love Parkdale. It’s certainly one of the better beachside suburbs close to the CBD.

We moved here 6-7 years ago and will be leaving shortly, for an acreage in the country. Its a suburb that’s changing fast, but I will miss the place.

Way too many positives to list. Special mention to the beachside walk and shops though, which are great.

To be fair in the review, I’ll mention the only two major negatives I can find. (1) the level crossing by the shops, which is scary; and (2) the growing problem of youth delinquency and teenage gangs in the area. The govt school needs to be checking attendance more. The difference between that school and the others in the area is night and day.

Don’t let either of these two put you off though. The area, especially beach-side of the railway line is beautiful.

"Fabulous beach side community"

We have lived in Parkdale for 4 years and absolutely love it. Great for families, young and old. There are a couple small bars, cute restaurants & great cafes. Everyone is really friendly. Beautiful houses, not too cookie cutter. The beach isn't too busy as there isn't an actual car park so local people don't really visit. Nice water, and not as shallow as Mentone. We love it.

"Nice suburb"

Parkdale is a nice suburb but there are nice ones at the beach further out.

How do you rate a suburb one star with the only comment as 'there are nice ones at the beach further out'. A rating is based on the positives of a suburb, the infrastructure, the amenities, the people, the schools, parks, access to city, shops, hospitals, facilities, also house prices, liveability etc. This is a useless comment and you obviously have not or did not live in the suburb long enough to get a grasp on it's true value. Hopefully you have moved on.

"Parkdale has everything and more."

Parkdale really is one of the best beachside suburbs. It has excellent schools, private and public for all ages. Great sports facilities, great shopping, the best public transport in the area. The best beach with sand, not rocks and easy access from the street (don't have to abseil to get down like some of our neighbouring suburbs). We have the best small little shopping village with an abundance of great cafes and little eateries to dine at. We have the cafe right on the beach as well. Supermarkets, excellent fruit/veg shops, great speciality shops and good pubs and restaurants for any cuisine. The people or friendly, mostly young families. On weekends everyone gets out and about, walking through the many parks and gardens or along the beach. We have great walking trails and bike trails along the beach and families are out having a coffee and walking around all weekend, it is like a holiday lifestyle but just 25 minutes and you are in Melbourne CBD. We love it.

sorry bud. the govt schools are shithouse as they are in most places. A river of drugs and tattooed bogans, but that is now everywhere according to the Mordialloc police. It's nice enough in Parkdale and certainly better than the western suburbs, but this country is going down the shithole courtesy of our wonderful politicians and Parkdale is not immune.

Parkdale is lovely. I have to agree re the govt school though. Kids seem to walk in the front gate and walk straight back out the back door. Delinquency with gangs of teenagers definitely becoming a problem.

Been here for 6 years. Its a lovely spot. Arguably one of the best suburbs in Melbourne!
That said, we have noticed quite a bit more youth delinquency and gangs of 14-17 year old kids lurking around over the past 18 months.
The public school seems to have developed an attendance problem. Lots of kids out and about when they should be in class.

"Beachside without the Pricetag"

Parkdale has a small town community feel, all of the neighbours, shops, schools are friendly. The sports grounds have people coming from the "Richer" suburbs as they either have none or fewer parks. The sports clubs from Cricket, footy or Surf life saving are all about family, friend, fan in that order. The public schools like, Parktone have a Principal who is known for working to the early hours of the morning painting rooms to save money so the kids would have more resources. The suburb itself is difficult to get into, you practically need to wait for a deceased estate to be sold before you can get is as they aren't making ay more land there.
If you are seeking a truely family friendly area close to the beach, train station, shops but without the brighton pricetag look no further!

"Happiness by the beach"

We love bringing up the family here. Great access to the beach for exercise or recreation, nice local cafes and restaurants and good local shopping at the plaza or Southland. All this and only 35 minutes commute from the City. Neighbours are friendly and know how lucky we all are!

"Quiet and close to the beach"

A lovely beachside suburb with a good number of lovely streets and beautiful houses. The downside in being in such a great area with such a good beach is the visitors during the height of summer. But that is easy to deal with when you can get down there and enjoy the benefits without having to drive.
The area has reasonable public transport but its going to be a reasonably long trip to the city.
There are some good schools in the area for families with kids and a few good kindergartens as well.
Its not too far to Southland if you can’t get what you need around the corner.
On top of the beach for having fun with the kids there are some good parks around the area.

The govt school in Parkdale seems to be a mixed bag. The private schools (esp Mentone Grammar) are great though... if you can get in.
